Re: What are your golf goals for 2020?

  By: Tyler F on Dec. 6, 2020, 6:04 p.m.

Getting clear on your stats can help prioritize.

Tour pros average 12-13 GIR and 95% nGIR (within 20 yards). Scratch golf is about 9 GIR, so I give the rough guide of 85% nGIR for my golfers trying to get to scratch. The good rounds, they'll be cl…

It's hard to imagine that the year is almost over!

I've always thought that the important part of the goal-setting process is the process. For example, with my goals. I was able to play one round virtually pain-free (didn't have the time or capaci…

Re: Opinions regarding the Motorcycle Move

Thanks for the comment/concern. My goal with the site is to help do-it-yourself golfers find ways to improve their swing. There are three primary needs with your golf swing.
1. Control the face-to-path = hit it straight(ish)
2. Control the path = hi…

Hi Paul, Welcome to the site. Martin's a great coach, I'm glad that he introduced you to our program :)

As far as your swing, I think there are two complementary pieces to work on. Which one you start with really depends on which feels the most com…

Re: Getting speed into the grip early without casting

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 29, 2020, 11:21 a.m.

I have an idea about how you would have to design it. I think you would need a spring gauge. A rope or pully would require too much linear force in one direction, instead of more of a curving force.

With the lead arm pinned to your chest idea, I g…

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 22, 2020, 9:35 p.m.

Hi Max, Thanks for not putting me in a tough situation.

I saw the same thing with my 3D. I define the delivery position based on the max grip speed. What I saw clinically was that very few golfers moved the hands faster when they tried to. I foun…

Re: Question on supination trail arm & tpi graph

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 22, 2020, 9:01 a.m.

I'm sure if you opened up the actual file, it would read with the proper labels. I'm guessing they are automatically generated for the report. The graph looks correct, but the label looks backward on that page. No, I've never seen anyone even close …

Re: Question on supination trail arm & tpi graph

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 19, 2020, 9:11 p.m.

I've looked at so many of those reports that I'm surprised I never noticed that! Yes, that would be a typo. If you take the trail wrist graph, and remove the other variables, then it shows you the scale. See the attached photo. It shows positive is …

That does make sense. In fact, you might be describing something similar to this video I did back in the Denver days :)

Re: My swing - where to start

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 18, 2020, 9:24 p.m.

Hi Adam,
Welcome to the site. As you can see, the issues in a swing are typically interrelated. There are a few things going on in your move. I'll address the specific issues, then a suggestion.

First, if you see the picture, the clubface is on th…

For others looking, I did a site video reviewing this product https://golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/review-downunder-board/

Re: Breaking the handle drag habit

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 16, 2020, 10:07 p.m.

Hey Matt,
I'm sorry for the delay, I thought I answered your question last week. Anyway, I haven't seen a really clear definition of handle dragging. Perhaps you can share what you mean by that term? Once we have it pinned down, we can come up with …

Re: Tour pros and ulnar deviation

  By: Tyler F on Nov. 16, 2020, 1:36 p.m.

For many tour golfers, the ulnar deviation does start quite early in the downswing. I think one of the big keys is that it's more of a relaxed or passive move. When a golfer tries to do it forcefully, that usually messes things up.

Also, look at y…

Hi Eugene,

Here's a video I did on ways to see ulnar deviation on video. Maybe it'll help tide you over until I can do a video with 3D graphs or video examples.

Re: Putter Misses on Toe

I would use impact spray and a couple of tees to make a putter gate. Have you tried this setup?
