Re: New Member - Swing Video

Hi John,

Thanks for the kind words.

With the long irons, we have to create more of a flat spot than with the short irons. This usually means more axis tilt and more arm extension through the ball. You tend to really hold the elbow bend constant t…

Hi Scott,

I think there are two spots that could make sense to start, so I'd probably play around with them and see which one is the most natural. The club is a little steep at the top and in transition. it doesn't look as steep as it is because y…

Hi Mark,

Thanks for posting your swing and letting me help in your process. I may be biased, but I think there is always hope.

I think the lowest hanging fruit with your swing is working on getting your steeps and shallows more balanced. It gets…

Hope it's going well. Feel free to post an update or another swing with follow-through focus and we can refine from there.

Yes, on the graphs I posted, the zero line would be the arm at the height of the shoulder. So they start with the arm lower than that, and move towards it (or even past) that height at the top of the swing. Yes, sounds like you've got it. If it star…

Re: shaft shallowest at top of swing

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 18, 2023, 10:52 a.m.

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you. I define shallow based on the clubhead distance to the ball at any given height. And the shallowing movement of transition, when the COM drops under the hand path vector is a key type of shallowing. So I'm confu…

Hi Joseph,

Every instructor will have different orders and priorities. Looking at your swing, I think the release is the place that could use the most tidying up. It looks to me like the arms work around the body down in the release instead of wit…

It's earlier than you think, that's why I think it has to be more of a sequencing issue. The trigger of the downswing. Here's two graphs, one where you can see when the lead arm lowering starts (maybe P4.1). The second graph is just to put in perspe…

Yes, I always thought the two trends were less pull down from the top and less pull down through impact :)

Re: Force on the grip

Hi Mark,

Yes, I do think in general long drivers tend to have a little bit more of an arm pull pattern. It can help with speed, but often sacrifices consistency and low-point control.

That said, I think you can do it with the body by emphasizing …

Here's a few of the lead shoulder lift graph. The first three are pros and then the second two are amateurs with more of an arm pull pattern. You'll see some subtle differences.

Hi Guy,

I'm happy to try and get to the bottom of things. It helps me understand and explain better. Unfortunately, Mike and Shaun never responded to my questions, even in the big private group chat. So they appear to have chosen to sit this one o…

Re: Poor finesse wedge ball contact

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 24, 2023, 8:14 a.m.

In my experience, the ball sliding up the face usually comes from too much axis tilt and the rib cage staying in flexion too long. This usually creates low point issues and shaft lean/trajectory issues.

The tricky thing with your question is handl…

Member question about hip turn and bracing

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 22, 2023, 10:39 a.m.

I had a question come in from a member that I wanted to share. He said:

"I’m trying very hard to understand the relationship between hip turn and posting on the left leg. Does posting end the hip turn? Sequencing the two? How does too much hip moti…

Hi Guy,

I've been involved in some chats with people from different systems, so here's a quick summary of this video:

The creator of the GEARS system states that his software does not at the moment report internal or external rotation. So the dat…
