Re: Impact check

Ugh! The hubris!

Today I learned the extreme difference between mocking up positions on the range and dynamically producing them in the real world.

I’m jammed up at impact; no room for my lead shoulder. Needs thoracic extension in the worst way. T…

This has been quite a journey; thanks for allowing me to shout it out into the void.

One of my long term goals has been to be develop the ability to pick it clean with a de lofted short iron, bonus points if I could do so and fade it. I felt that t…

Please forgive the ramblings of a crazy man… I’ll sum up the proceedings.

  1. I made some impact progress, and to me it felt fairly significant- I really feel like I’m beginning to understand the body dynamics. Maybe in a childlike way, but I feel now…

Made it to the range twice, second time with my PGA buddy. His critique of my swing is that I’m “loose in the wrong places,” meaning I have too much play in my wrists and elbows, and he has me in effect feel a straight arm triangle on my backswing a…

Re: Impact check- low to high!

  By: Zach F on Jan. 8, 2026, 3:43 a.m.

I was missing low to high! While trying for a fade bias in particular, I would think that bit is crucial to avoid an overly steep approach.

What some instructors call “covering the ball,” which is leaning more towards it from DTL(chest lower to the…

Hi Tyler!

One last little bit.
You mentioned once that when one gets lost, one should return to one’s roots(to paraphrase a Hoganism). I think my swing dna just might be the across the line, long, lazy shallowing. Seems like I’ve traveled in a big …

Hi Tyler!

Your demo during the conference call was quite helpful and illuminating. Some concept reworking for the left side seemed to eliminate the kyphosis and put me on the path to turning the ribs underneath and past the left arm while the shou…

Heading the right direction, I think.

Impact check

  By: Zach F on Dec. 31, 2025, 3:04 a.m.

Last spam of the old year!

I feel like I’m on sort of a roll here, in that some of the pieces I’ve been working on for some time seem to be tumbling into place. Specifically the shoulder area; I feel like I might* have a handle on it now. Lead arm …

Shoulder retraction vs scapular retraction

  By: Zach F on Dec. 30, 2025, 10:55 a.m.

I think I may have been confusing just pulling my shoulder back in its socket(movement 1) with true scapular retraction (movement 2). One feels like a country and the other like a continent. Does the first motion have any place in the STS model, or …

Thank you for this last bit, Tyler. A goldmine.

It opened up a can of worms, but I think a good can, because it made me reexamine impact and some things I thought I was doing properly.
The only way that I can achieve that shaft position you drew wh…

In that case, I may be more like Archer, because although I’ve become able to hit all the shots I want to hit, I often choose them recklessly(or at least incautiously). At this point, I play for the satisfaction of a few truly well struck shots each…

I think a new level unlocked.

So, cover and rotate, but it’s still a side-on sport.. that’s all I can come up with to describe this feeling, but to me it looks more like your demonstrations than what I’ve been previously doing. Am I on track?

TIA

What an interesting question!

Of course, I’d like to play golf like Archer, but I’m probably more Krieger at home and Cyril on the course. Daily life is a different story.

My miss is still left. My PGA buddy has a trackman and he says my path is v…

Taking that and running with it, I had a session with my PGA buddy and he put me in a top of backswing position that really stretched me out and put my arms more in front of my body. Feels like I’m getting somewhere here, especially in terms of invo…
