Re: Bad score avoidance vs aggressive play

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 31, 2019, 8:58 a.m.

+Ed C Anecdotally, I heard a similar story from another tour pro. He found himself thinking, "where would my worst shot go" instead of just looking at where he wanted to hit. By trying to avoid the bad shot consciously it made him look at too wide o…

Re: At what point in the golf swing is the clubhead traveling the fastest?

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 29, 2019, 7:57 a.m.

+Ed C The clubhead speed is almost always fastest at impact for professionals. It can peak a little sooner for ams with a cast pattern, but it's usually acceleration that changes, not speed.
Attached is a typical pro speed profile.

Re: Best Way to Use Skytrak

+Nick W Hey Nick, I think the best use of launch monitors is training consistent carry distance. Both with the wedge matrix and with iron shots. I'd use a random number generator (just google a website) and then try and dial in distance control.

I don't know if they still use the same hardware as 5 years ago, but at that time, the golftec sensors were the same Polhemus sensors that AMM uses. The difference is the calibration process. Since they don't do a calibration, the linear mov…

The Rule of 24?

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 24, 2019, 7:46 a.m.

I saw this pop-up up on my feed. I'm curious about what the GSA tribe experience is with this? How many of you are under a ratio of 30?

Re: Extension of Spine on Backswing

+Mark E Are they saying that the golfers are reaching extension at P1 (club parallel in the backswing)? Here are a couple of graphs. Steve Elkington and Grant Waite. You'll see that the golfers are STARTING to go into extension at that point, but th…

Re: Is there consensus on anterior pelvic tilt?

  By: Tyler F on Oct. 22, 2019, 8:12 a.m.

+John C In your post, you mentioned a couple of different kinds of hip tilts. Often times, golfers are talking about hip tilt in the side bend direction, not just in the forward-backward direction. For example, it's those side bend tilts that help d…

+Mike W It was, his comment on that topic was landing the sole of the club really flat to the sand/ground is why it sounds really loud when he hits bunker shots ;)

One of my important goals of this site is to help try and clarify feel vs real. Jake is demonstrating two different exaggerations of the movements, but the discussion out there is relating to arm rotation vs pure ulnar deviation in shallow…

I've got a student bringing one in at his next lesson to let me borrow. I'll let you know what I think of it after that ;)

Joel, check out this video on the topic - https://golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/connecting-arm-shallowing-supination/

The "passive torque" is enhanced supination when you apply normal force to the club.

Great discussion going on, I wanted to add a small addition about context. When does shallowing happen and for about how long? Perhaps that will help your idea of how to apply shallowing to your own swing :)

Wisdom from Stan Utley

I’ll work on my interview skills, but there are a couple key points in this quick lesson Stan gave one of my students.

Re: Is there consensus on anterior pelvic tilt?

  By: Tyler F on Sept. 19, 2019, 6:45 a.m.

Hi Mark,

I should clarify that the graph is the amount of forward bend, not 100% pelvic tilt. A quick note - Anterior or posterior pelvic tilt is a posture position reference. A common definition is the angle of the sacrum compared to a vertical pl…

Re: Is there consensus on anterior pelvic tilt?

  By: Tyler F on Sept. 16, 2019, 11:44 a.m.

The most common pattern seen on 3D is slight posterior tilt in the backswing, very slight anterior tilt in transition, then posterior tilting through the release. I think most of this comes from core engagement while rotating and shifting pressure, …
