Pulls and early extension and hip slide.

Tyler,

I have your book “The stock tour swing” and appreciate the detail you provide. I am looking to restructure my swing for consistent strikes as I can hit the ball well for stretches but lose the “feel” and start topping drives and pull hooking irons. I fight early extension , cramped arms and early release. I can usually drive the ball well but no control of irons. I have some physical limitations, mostly kyphosis but not sure if it affects my positions. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to keep my chest down and left hip back on downswing into impact. My head rises, legs extend and I flip to recover. Thank you for your insight.

With a miss pattern of pull hooks and topping, I'd start by looking at your impact line. That's where we see a fair amount of lack of shaft lean and too much axis tilt. It doesn't look like a really wristy flip, more of a shoulder pull style release. If we then go back to delivery position, we can see that you haven't had an excessive amount of slide their either, so it's more likely a release pattern.

The other major cause of the pull hook/top would be a path that was overly inside out, but we can see in the DTL picture that isn't the case. So that points us to doing some low point training with release drills to figure out how to create a bit more shaft lean. You could start with something simple like an anti slide station to force yourself to get your upper body to cover. But I think it's going to be a combination of a right leg stability feel and more of the wipe.
