Input requested: What's the next focus area?

  By: Patrick W on March 21, 2025, 3:52 p.m.

I'm new to the community and have spent the last few weeks implementing a couple key concepts to my swing. I love the structure and completeness of the videos, but would love some direction on where to focus next. (While I feel like the motorcycle move / arm shallowing / release area areas i could work on, I think there's still more in the transition to do before I get there.

Appreciate any input!

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for posting your swing, sorry for the delay. It sounds like you're on the right track. It's easy to get lost on where to focus. When in doubt, I would start at impact and work backwards. There are three things to monitor:
- How a swing looks
- How a swing feels
- How a swing performs
They all give clues as to where you should investigate next with your practice.

Transition does look like you could work on a few things, but I'd be curious to see if you can get into a little better impact position and follow through with a 9 to 3. I'd be looking to get a little bit better body rotation at impact by trying to lead with the hips a little longer in the downswing. I think it will be easier for you to do that if you know what the body should feel like in impact and follow through. I'd check out some of the impact drills, or if you're on the annual program, check out the "build my stock swing" program. It's a great program for understanding the foundation of each key movement and swing phase.

Happy Golfing,
Tyler

Glad you got the video figured out, we were having some issues with the forum the last few weeks. We only just found out about it this week, but it should be fixed for now.

I agree that impact is looking better. More body turn. I think next piece might be working more on follow through position and the chicken wing. We might want to take a look from the face on video to see when and why the chicken wing is showing up.

Thank Tyler,

I will work on getting the front on view.

Re: Chicken Wing, yes: I have noticed that and fixing has been elusive. I watched the video about right elbow pointing at hip the whole way and have tried to implement that but it seems something else is causing it to move. Good to know that there may be different root causes for the chicken wing. I will review the follow through positions next and see what content i can find on the chicken wing until i can post the next video for analysis.

The face on will help. With the chicken wing, as with most swing issues, you want to go at it directly, and then you want to go at it indirectly by working on the complimentary pieces. Some of the things that can compliment working on the chicken wing are:
- a shallow enough arm motion on the downswing
- enough body rotation
- scaps closed
- trail arm bent longer
- twisted spine

You just have to experiment and find the one or two moves that help you improve it, then drill those until it happens more naturally.

We'll have a better idea when we look at the face on video.

Tyler

Don't think the video saved, trying to upload again.

Hi Tyler,

I've been working through the videos and believe i've made good progress on many of the move. Low point control seems to have improved a lot, contact is better, and the misses are improving.

That said i feel like compared to the impact position model you've provided, There's still room to improve to get to a more open delivery position. What would you recommend next to continue making progress.
