Trail Leg Mechanics

Our member asked the question - "Right hip pivot video please. How much knee flex? Do you like to see a straight right leg at top of swing? Does right foot straight or flared open assist proper hip pivot?"

Watching videos of Tiger, Rory, Adam Scott, the trail leg femur has a look of “twisting” with the pivot. Your video on trail leg mechanics gives the same look. Feels are different from person to person, but have you seen any data to indicate this is a positive or necessary movement for the golf swing.

Hi John,

I think what you're noticing is the femur getting pulled by the pelvis the pelvis rotates. On average, the hip has approximately 45 degrees external rotation. If the hips are open 45 degrees (or more) at impact, then the hip will have to go with the pelvis as the pelvis rotates to the finish. Does that make sense with what you're describing?
