Re: I need your help! What looks do you hate in your swing?

  By: Ed C on Dec. 2, 2019, 9:34 p.m.

I swear I'm only a suffering narcissist when it comes to the golf swing:

(1) I hate how my front leg/knee tends to buckle - a la Bubba Watson - when approaching the top of the backswing
(2) I hate how my arms don't stay extended well into…

Re: Best Training Aids

Some of the best training aids I've purchased recently are:

  • JOBY Gorillapod for iPhone (a flexi tripod you can hook up to your golf bag to video record swings)
  • Spa Finder passes for the wife (equal to # of golf outings I intend to have on…

Re: Brooks Koepka + Dustin Johnson vs. Bubba Watson

Thanks for clearing that up.

Btw - I think that Korean YouTube channel is great! If you plan to post more swing analysis videos, would love to hear your take on lpga players with amazing swings like Ariya, sung hyun park, Anne van dam, Brooke Hende…

Hi Jake - I use Decade and agree with you.

Using an analogy, to me Decade feels like the equivalent of an idiot-proof playbook on poker strategy. It lays out all the odds and gives you the high percentage play every time (fold, call, rais…

Brooks Koepka + Dustin Johnson vs. Bubba Watson

  By: Ed C on Nov. 5, 2019, 9:54 p.m.

The longest hitters on the PGA Tour are fascinating to me. But this season, both Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson had offseason surgery to repair partially torn ligaments or tendons in their left knee.

Contrast that to Bubba Watson, who to my know…

Re: Best Way to Use Skytrak

  By: Ed C on Oct. 30, 2019, 4:26 p.m.

Nick,

I purchased the Game Improvement Package for Skytrak.

For about 6 months, I completed the skills assessment, bag mapping, and closest to the pin challenges bi-weekly.

I would set it to 3 balls per club, and with a 7 iron, the results woul…

  By: Ed C on Oct. 30, 2019, 3:22 p.m.

Nick I have owned a SkyTrak for two years.

I mainly use it to figure out carry distances hitting into a net at home. That way I can use my game ball.

The skills challenges were fun but as a 10 handicap I wasn’t improving by doing it more.

I reali…

I’m curious if you could expand on how he has seen decade introduce more doubt/indecision in elite players?

Re: At what point in the golf swing is the clubhead traveling the fastest?

  By: Ed C on Oct. 29, 2019, 1:08 p.m.

+Tyler F Thanks for clearing that up with a graph.

Out of curiosity, if there were no ball & tee, would you expect to see peak speed occur just past the point of where impact would normally be?

At what point in the golf swing is the clubhead traveling the fastest?

  By: Ed C on Oct. 27, 2019, 11:24 p.m.

I just watched the video on Alpha Torque. If I understood the video correctly, I can't help but wonder if the 9 o'clock position in the downswing is where the clubhead is traveling the fastest?

I would think 3D could pick this up, but a simple Inte…

Re: The Rule of 24?

This is a really interesting question...here are my two cents:

  • 300 yards: average PGA Tour driving distance
  • 9,000 yards: "new" PGA Tour course length
  • 30 ratio *

If a PGA Tour course is 7,200 yards (avg. 400 yards per hole), a 9,000 ya…

Here are my numbers:

Average Drive: 245 yards
Course Length: 6300-6500 yards
Ratio: 25.7 - 26.5

Is early extension a 'power leak' ?

  By: Ed C on Aug. 27, 2019, 1:26 a.m.

Hi,

I was hoping to better understand if & how early extension is a power leak?

  • Is early extension a power leak because it leads to less consistency of strike, less optimal impact & launch conditions, or does it actually slow down body …

Does "squat and rotate" have a place in the GSA swing framework?

  By: Ed C on Aug. 23, 2019, 1:27 p.m.

These days, I see lots of golf swing videos & instructors talking about "squat and rotate" to generate more clubhead speed with the driver.

One example with a decent 'before & after' is this video (between minutes 17:55 to 20:00):

Re: What can you learn from Lee Trevino?

  By: Ed C on Aug. 15, 2019, 9:27 p.m.

The 3 things that stand out to my untrained eye:

(1) Impact: it looks like his body has really driven the swing, with the club trailing behind, his hips and chest opened nicely
(2) 3 o'clock position looks sweet: arms fully extended, his hands rele…
