Not sure where to focus

Hi everyone, I’m fairly new to GSA and love the content. I’ve been really grinding away on my swing the last few seasons and feel like I’m getting stuck w progress.

I always struggled with being steep in transition and had a lot of arm lift to finish backswing. Have worked on more depth and not being laid off. I have gotten better with shallowing, but part of that was accomplished with early extension.

I still have small amount of EE (I think?). My hips are also never as open as I would like and my hands dont get in front of my trail thigh at delivery. I generally have quite a bit of shaft lean at impact, but wondering if thats with too much slide and I’m flipping? Have gotten better with release but still feel like there is some chicken wing.

Have been struggling with consistent contact and misses are generally thin and to the right. Sorry for the barrage of questions. Will work on getting better videos but wanted to get some feedback asap. The face on vid in garage is pretty typical. The outdoor one I really focused on the wipe and hit it pretty well.

Thank you!!

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the comment, sorry for the delayed response. It's been a busy July!

Anyway, let's discuss your pattern a bit. I think your impact position isn't too bad from the DTL. But you're in the process of spinning the upper body and pulling with that lead arm. Part of that is complemented by the fact that the club is more out at delivery position. I'd say the lack of depth is a bigger issue than the steepness. Creating a little more depth will allow for better arm extension and bracing on the way through. When looking at the outside picture, I think the picture outside, you do a better job of bracing with your upper body. See how you don't lunch as much forward with your head? But, it looks like you get more arm bend/chicken wing with the lead side outside. So that part of the pattern is not directly tied to the upper body lunging forward. If it were me, we'd start by working on a little bit of follow through arm extension and then using the depth in delivery position as a combo focus.

Hi Matt,

Yes, sorry, we were having an issue with the forum that we didn't know about until now. But it seems to be fixed and working again.

Compared to the previous picture, your shaft is flatter and a little deeper. I think what gives it the look you see is the sequencing. It looks more like the upper body is pulling the arms down into this position instead of the lower body sequencing it. I'd try to add some lower body disassociation to the mix. In order to get the lower body open compared to the shoulders, the spine has to have some rotation to it. Try these two vidoes

Good luck,

Great feedback, thank you! I have been working on more depth and less lift w my arms in backswing. And also trying to be more across the line at the top. The rebound of the club through transition has been better focusing on this and I have been hitting it relatively well. Curious about thoughts on the swing below? I still seem to lose posture slightly and am not very open at impact. Thanks again for the direction!
