Thick divots pointing to 10 O'clock

Hi, I take really thick divots (3/8 inch) and my divot pattern points to 10 O'clock (assuming noon is straight towards the target). Sometimes this results in a pull left or push right for ball flight. Somehow I'm a 9 handicap with this lousy iron play. Too steep right?

Hi Robert,

There is a difference bewteen steep and deep, but they are often related. Usually to identify the causes of too deep divots, I'd look at the face on video first, primarily for changes in height of the pelvis and upper body. If there's nothing there and it's still deep, then I'd look from the down the line for spine angle and width control.

Usually there's one or two things creating the depth. Since the path is also very outside in, I'd likely guess it's pulling the arms in, with a lack of ulnar deviation. But I often guess wrong, so I'd prefer to see video to be more certain.

Happy Golfing,
Tyler
