Swing Plane Training

Take a collapsable car sun shade and cut holes, approximately 3 inches apart down each side. Thread an alignment stick and place the flat surface in the ground at the angle of your club. Practice hitting shots on either side of the swing plane training aid to learn what it feels like to have a neutral path through the ball.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:06,000
In this drill video, we're going to talk about practicing swing plane or the functional

00:00:06,000 --> 00:00:12,000
swing plane, which is basically the path of the club from waist height to waist height.

00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:16,000
Now I like to have a little bit of visual feedback whenever I'm working on swing plane

00:00:16,000 --> 00:00:17,000
when my players.

00:00:17,000 --> 00:00:19,000
So I've got two different versions here.

00:00:19,000 --> 00:00:22,000
The first prototype was with a pillowcase.

00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:27,000
You basically take the pillowcase and cut little holes all the way down and then just

00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:32,000
thread a alignment stick through it, same thing on the other side and then you put it in

00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:38,000
the ground with a little bit of tension and it kind of holds a little bit of a plane.

00:00:38,000 --> 00:00:40,000
It's nowhere near as good as version two.

00:00:40,000 --> 00:00:42,000
This is the one that I really like.

00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:44,000
This is just a collapsible sunshade.

00:00:44,000 --> 00:00:47,000
You can get them at target for about $7.

00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:52,000
Did the same thing just kind of cut holes and then place the alignment sticks and it just pops

00:00:52,000 --> 00:00:56,000
up right into place and then we've got an adjustable swing plane.

00:00:56,000 --> 00:01:04,000
So when we look at video, if the camera is positioned correctly, what you'll see is from

00:01:04,000 --> 00:01:10,000
about waist height to waist height, the grip and the hazzle will follow this line or if we

00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:13,000
connect all those dots, it'll follow this imaginary plane.

00:01:13,000 --> 00:01:17,000
Well this takes the imaginary and makes it look a little bit more real.

00:01:17,000 --> 00:01:23,000
So what you can do is you can set up just off of the swing plane so that it's at about

00:01:23,000 --> 00:01:24,000
the same angle as your club.

00:01:25,000 --> 00:01:28,000
This is a little steeper so I'll drop it down just slightly.

00:01:28,000 --> 00:01:29,000
Good.

00:01:29,000 --> 00:01:34,000
So now that's about the same angle as my club and what that'll do is that'll give me kind

00:01:34,000 --> 00:01:39,000
of a visual of how I want the club to swing between this waist height and waist height.

00:01:39,000 --> 00:01:44,000
If you tend to get stuck or come too much from the inside, you'd hit the swing plane there

00:01:44,000 --> 00:01:47,000
and you'd have a lot of space on the way through.

00:01:47,000 --> 00:01:50,000
You'll feel like you swing a little bit more to the left.

00:01:50,000 --> 00:01:54,000
If you're in the more typical or the high handy capper, you're going to swing probably

00:01:55,000 --> 00:01:59,000
more outside and you'll have a lot of space there and this would get in the way on the

00:01:59,000 --> 00:02:00,000
way through.

00:02:00,000 --> 00:02:04,000
Now the great thing about the swing plane, there's the at home swing plane trainer.

00:02:04,000 --> 00:02:06,000
I don't have a great name for it.

00:02:06,000 --> 00:02:12,000
But the ways that you can use it are you can set up with a golf ball just on the other

00:02:12,000 --> 00:02:17,000
side and you can either take full swings or do nine to three working on coming through

00:02:17,000 --> 00:02:24,000
with the club pretty close to parallel to the swing plane the whole time or you can slide

00:02:24,000 --> 00:02:27,000
it underneath.

00:02:27,000 --> 00:02:32,000
If you're an over the top swinger, this will be very scary because that's going to take

00:02:32,000 --> 00:02:38,000
up all the space that I normally see the club coming in and then I can practice taking

00:02:38,000 --> 00:02:41,000
those swings hitting those nine to three.

00:02:41,000 --> 00:02:46,000
They don't like when I hit them in the weeds but the swing plane or it's very collapsible

00:02:46,000 --> 00:02:48,000
fits in your bag.

00:02:48,000 --> 00:02:52,000
Just get a collapsible sun shade, thread some needles and this will help you work on the

00:02:52,000 --> 00:02:58,000
path aspect and then all you really have to practice is controlling the face using

00:02:58,000 --> 00:03:03,000
things like the motorcycle or the screwdriver move or whatever drills that I pointed

00:03:03,000 --> 00:03:09,000
you to this isolates path and then you can work exclusively on the face because most players

00:03:09,000 --> 00:03:13,000
when they adjust one tend to adjust the other this helps you isolate.
