Arbitrary OB

Arbitrary OB (out of bounds) is one of the ultimate games in shot shaping and course management. Especially if you are playing against someone, it adds danger to every shot and forces you to think about your misses. Controlling your misses is one of the best ways to lower your scores, so I highly recommend this game as a way to challenge your course management. This game can be quite frustrating, so I would rarely use it just before an important round, or if I don't have enough mental patience at this time.

This course game is arbitrary OB. So arbitrary OB is exactly how it sounds. On every

00:00:06,000 --> 00:00:12,000
shot you're going to pick an arbitrary direction to be OB. So what you may say is this

00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:17,000
T shot, the left side of the rough is OB. The next one, you know, hitting into the green,

00:00:17,000 --> 00:00:24,000
you could say the right side is OB. Following standard OB rules, if you hit it there,

00:00:24,000 --> 00:00:28,000
you have to drop it on their ball and play it as your third shot. So stroke the

00:00:29,000 --> 00:00:34,000
well, this really challenges you to learn how to control the trajectory of your

00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:39,000
shots to eliminate what is probably the worst miss. So I recommend you pick the arbitrary

00:00:39,000 --> 00:00:45,000
OB to be the side that will ultimately leave you with the worst shot for the next shot.

00:00:45,000 --> 00:00:50,000
Doesn't work once you get on the green, just put out as normal. But up until you get to the green.

00:00:50,000 --> 00:00:54,000
So if it's par five, your first second, third shot, if it's par four, first in second,

00:00:54,000 --> 00:00:58,000
you're going to pick one side of the course to eliminate and you're going to work on your shot

00:00:58,000 --> 00:01:04,000
to make sure that you don't hit it out of bounds. If you're playing against the partner,

00:01:04,000 --> 00:01:10,000
what can be fun is you each pick which side is going to be arbitrary OB. So if you have a

00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:15,000
tendency of hitting hooks off the T, the smart player is going to always make it left OB and it

00:01:15,000 --> 00:01:21,000
really challenges you to both work on your ball striking and shaping, but also to work on your

00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:26,000
mental process of not getting frustrated if you do happen to hit your common miss and it hits

00:01:26,000 --> 00:01:34,000
the ball out of bounds. So arbitrary OB, great game for getting ready for tight courses or

00:01:34,000 --> 00:01:38,000
courses where you're going to have more of a what we call target golf, where you basically have to

00:01:38,000 --> 00:01:43,000
eliminate one side and really control the shots. So it'll help you with your ball striking and

00:01:43,000 --> 00:01:47,000
consistency and a little bit with your patience.
