00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.510
This drill is angle of attack club height to the ground. So basically what we
2
00:00:05.510 --> 00:00:05.560
're
3
00:00:05.560 --> 00:00:09.350
going to do in this drill is we're going to look at how high is the club off
4
00:00:09.350 --> 00:00:09.520
the
5
00:00:09.520 --> 00:00:12.880
ground and use that to relate to the angle of attack or the path through the
6
00:00:12.880 --> 00:00:17.900
golf ball kind of from high to low. So what a lot of amateur struggle with is
7
00:00:17.900 --> 00:00:18.040
if
8
00:00:18.040 --> 00:00:23.160
you're trying to hit a driver they will tend to have too much of a negative
9
00:00:23.160 --> 00:00:23.600
angle
10
00:00:23.600 --> 00:00:28.000
of attack or the club will be going downward kind of like so as it's making
11
00:00:28.000 --> 00:00:31.560
contact with the golf ball. So one way that I've had a lot of success
12
00:00:31.560 --> 00:00:32.120
explaining
13
00:00:32.120 --> 00:00:38.080
this to students is just with a simple spatial illustration. So if I were to
14
00:00:38.080 --> 00:00:38.320
tee
15
00:00:38.320 --> 00:00:44.520
up a golf ball just like so in order for the club to be going flat or hitting
16
00:00:44.520 --> 00:00:44.800
up
17
00:00:44.800 --> 00:00:49.820
on the golf ball the club head is going to have to be relatively low to the
18
00:00:49.820 --> 00:00:50.060
ground
19
00:00:50.060 --> 00:00:55.320
about a foot behind the golf ball even on the ground works pretty good. So if I
20
00:00:55.320 --> 00:00:59.610
was to take my normal driver setup and go into a good delivery position and
21
00:00:59.610 --> 00:00:59.680
then
22
00:00:59.680 --> 00:01:04.000
I was to continue using my body side bends and rotations you can see that the
23
00:01:04.000 --> 00:01:09.560
club is actually slightly lower than the golf ball so that when I go to extend
24
00:01:09.560 --> 00:01:09.680
my
25
00:01:09.680 --> 00:01:13.840
arms it's actually hitting it slightly on the way up. What a lot of golfers who
26
00:01:13.840 --> 00:01:20.960
struggle with the driver tend to do is they will do the angle of attack similar
27
00:01:20.960 --> 00:01:25.400
to if I had an iron. So if I were to take my normal iron setup and get into
28
00:01:25.400 --> 00:01:25.520
that
29
00:01:25.520 --> 00:01:28.920
same delivery position but now with my upper body slightly in front because I'm
30
00:01:28.920 --> 00:01:33.160
doing a good iron swing what you'll see is when I'm a foot behind the golf ball
31
00:01:33.160 --> 00:01:38.440
the club is going to be you know three four five six inches off the ground
32
00:01:38.440 --> 00:01:43.760
because it's going to be traveling downward when I make contact as opposed
33
00:01:43.760 --> 00:01:50.720
to upward like it would with the driver. So you can use this club height to the
34
00:01:50.720 --> 00:01:56.640
ground as a great reference for your angle of attack. So if you look on video
35
00:01:56.640 --> 00:01:56.840
and
36
00:01:56.840 --> 00:02:00.630
you happen to see that the driver looks like this when it's even with your
37
00:02:00.630 --> 00:02:00.920
right
38
00:02:00.920 --> 00:02:04.520
thigh you're gonna have to straighten your arms but the club is going to be
39
00:02:04.520 --> 00:02:09.640
probably traveling downward as you make contact with it. So one of your
40
00:02:09.640 --> 00:02:10.280
challenges
41
00:02:10.280 --> 00:02:15.490
is to get the club almost on the ground even or just in front of your right
42
00:02:15.490 --> 00:02:15.720
foot
43
00:02:15.720 --> 00:02:20.240
so that when you swing through with the driver you can hit the driver on a flat
44
00:02:20.240 --> 00:02:25.040
or slightly upswing. This is that classic sweeping image that they talk
45
00:02:25.040 --> 00:02:28.560
about we're just going to use the height to the ground as a good reference
46
00:02:28.560 --> 00:02:28.800
point
47
00:02:28.800 --> 00:02:31.920
for feeling this concept.
1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.510

ground and use that to relate to the angle of attack or the path through the

00:00:12.880 --> 00:00:17.900
golf ball kind of from high to low. So what a lot of amateur struggle with is
7
00:00:17.900 --> 00:00:18.040
if
8
00:00:18.040 --> 00:00:23.160
you're trying to hit a driver they will tend to have too much of a negative

explaining
13
00:00:32.120 --> 00:00:38.080
this to students is just with a simple spatial illustration. So if I were to
14

17
00:00:44.800 --> 00:00:49.820
on the golf ball the club head is going to have to be relatively low to the
18
00:00:49.820 --> 00:00:50.060

00:01:09.560 --> 00:01:09.680
my
25
00:01:09.680 --> 00:01:13.840
arms it's actually hitting it slightly on the way up. What a lot of golfers who
26
00:01:13.840 --> 00:01:20.960
struggle with the driver tend to do is they will do the angle of attack similar
27
00:01:20.960 --> 00:01:25.400
to if I had an iron. So if I were to take my normal iron setup and get into
28
00:01:25.400 --> 00:01:25.520
that
29
00:01:25.520 --> 00:01:28.920
same delivery position but now with my upper body slightly in front because I'm
30
00:01:28.920 --> 00:01:33.160
doing a good iron swing what you'll see is when I'm a foot behind the golf ball
31
00:01:33.160 --> 00:01:38.440
the club is going to be you know three four five six inches off the ground
32
00:01:38.440 --> 00:01:43.760
because it's going to be traveling downward when I make contact as opposed
33
00:01:43.760 --> 00:01:50.720
to upward like it would with the driver. So you can use this club height to the
34
00:01:50.720 --> 00:01:56.640
ground as a great reference for your angle of attack. So if you look on video
35
00:01:56.640 --> 00:01:56.840
and
36
00:01:56.840 --> 00:02:00.630
you happen to see that the driver looks like this when it's even with your
37
00:02:00.630 --> 00:02:00.920
right
38
00:02:00.920 --> 00:02:04.520
thigh you're gonna have to straighten your arms but the club is going to be
39
00:02:04.520 --> 00:02:09.640
probably traveling downward as you make contact with it. So one of your
40
00:02:09.640 --> 00:02:10.280
challenges
41
00:02:10.280 --> 00:02:15.490
is to get the club almost on the ground even or just in front of your right
42
00:02:15.490 --> 00:02:15.720
foot
43
00:02:15.720 --> 00:02:20.240
so that when you swing through with the driver you can hit the driver on a flat
44
00:02:20.240 --> 00:02:25.040
or slightly upswing. This is that classic sweeping image that they talk
45
00:02:25.040 --> 00:02:28.560
about we're just going to use the height to the ground as a good reference
46
00:02:28.560 --> 00:02:28.800
point
47
00:02:28.800 --> 00:02:31.920
for feeling this concept.
