Weight Shift in Setting Club/Transition

I feel like my swing is really coming along. Focusing now on using legs to power the swing. I feel like when I drop from the top of the swing to delivery position all the tension I built up through my core and glute is lost and then I try to regather it from delivery to impact.

Specifically I struggle when I hip bump and drop the arms to delivery, the linear part of the downswing, and matching it up with the downward part of the downswing to impact/follow through. However, I can't merge them competently at the moment.

I think what would help is better understanding when the foot pressure transfers to the lead side. I hear often watching tournaments on TV that they transfer their pressure from backfoot to front foot during the backswing. However, the content here, seems to suggest that the foot pressure is sudden from the top of the swing, initiating the downswing. I'd like to keep the feeling of tension, which I think is referred to as torsion here, throughout the swing, especially from top of the swing to delivery, or is that not how it is supposed to be done?

Any help on the timing and gradualness of foot pressure transfer at which phase of the swing would be immensely helpful, thanks.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Gabe,

I think it's common for golfers to lose the core tension in transition. The part of the body that maintains the tension is more in the mid back, just beneath the shoulder blades. That's a tricky area for some.

But to investigate your question about foot pressure. First, if you haven't seen my video "Sasho Two Step" https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/sasho-two-step/ I discuss some of the timing and amount in transition. It might help. Or it might give you additional questions to post here. Either way, let's start with this idea.

The shift in weight/pressure allows for muscles to activate at a higher level, which ultimately creates more speed. It's like taking a step before a jump motion. I think one challenge is describing the timing. I think for some it will feel smooth, for others it might feel sudden. There isn't one "right" feel, but there are likely feels given what you currently do. But the goal is a rather quick impulse of force. If you are too smooth, you'll likely be late, or not create as much tension as you're capable.

Maybe I can put together a video on this for you. It's probably a commonly misunderstood topic.

Happy Golfing,
Tyler
