Use a simple PVC pipe station to help groove your putter path.
I use a PVC pipe station to help create a putter path guide. I like this better than objects like the putting arc. This PVC pipe helps create an arc with less manipulation compared to putter head trainers like the putting arc. I recommend using about 1/2 inch PVC pipe. I like about 3 feet for the main pole and then about 18 inches for the end components.

1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.280
This drill is grooving your stroke with a putting track.
2
00:00:08.280 --> 00:00:13.570
So this is a really simple device for helping you keep the shape of the pizza
3
00:00:13.570 --> 00:00:14.160
straight.
4
00:00:14.160 --> 00:00:17.100
So when you're doing your stroke, remember one of the things that we're really
5
00:00:17.100 --> 00:00:17.460
trying
6
00:00:17.460 --> 00:00:21.960
to avoid is artificially turning that pizza.
7
00:00:21.960 --> 00:00:26.240
So in order to do that, I'm going to have more of a stroke that travels in a
8
00:00:26.240 --> 00:00:26.900
straight
9
00:00:26.900 --> 00:00:28.600
back and forth direction.
10
00:00:28.600 --> 00:00:34.510
So what I have here is just a PVC pipe that's elevated so that I can have my
11
00:00:34.510 --> 00:00:35.600
golf ball down
12
00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:37.520
on the ground.
13
00:00:37.520 --> 00:00:41.880
And it takes a little practice just kind of figuring out the correct distance.
14
00:00:41.880 --> 00:00:47.600
You want to get the putter so that it's sitting flat and up against the stick.
15
00:00:47.600 --> 00:00:51.480
So the sole is flat there and it's up against the PVC pipe.
16
00:00:51.480 --> 00:00:55.950
And now if I, you know, just for fun, I won't even take a really conventional
17
00:00:55.950 --> 00:00:56.520
grip.
18
00:00:56.520 --> 00:01:00.920
If I just let the putter slide back and forth, I don't think I have this aimed
19
00:01:00.920 --> 00:01:02.540
high enough,
20
00:01:02.540 --> 00:01:08.240
let's tweak that a little bit just for the effect.
21
00:01:08.240 --> 00:01:09.480
Okay.
22
00:01:09.480 --> 00:01:17.280
So if I put it back close to the same spot, so putter sold, all I'm going to do
23
00:01:17.280 --> 00:01:17.880
is keep
24
00:01:17.880 --> 00:01:24.200
the putter face square and let the putter slide back and forth.
25
00:01:24.200 --> 00:01:28.650
As long as I don't twist the face, this is going to help me build this kind of
26
00:01:28.650 --> 00:01:29.360
straight
27
00:01:29.360 --> 00:01:31.080
pizza stroke.
28
00:01:31.080 --> 00:01:34.390
For some people, they feel very restricted on the backswing because they want
29
00:01:34.390 --> 00:01:34.760
to pull
30
00:01:34.760 --> 00:01:39.200
the putter in or cut it outside so it will go like that.
31
00:01:39.200 --> 00:01:45.200
And then other people will feel it more want to slam into the stick on the way
32
00:01:45.200 --> 00:01:46.440
through.
33
00:01:46.440 --> 00:01:52.510
Or occasionally you'll have golfers who kind of excessively move outside, but
34
00:01:52.510 --> 00:01:53.240
the most
35
00:01:53.240 --> 00:01:56.680
common would be pulling it excessively in on the way through.
36
00:01:56.680 --> 00:02:02.190
So I'm going to take my grip, try to focus on my feeling of the suspension
37
00:02:02.190 --> 00:02:03.320
point, kind
38
00:02:03.320 --> 00:02:06.470
of getting it to rock back and forth and I still don't have it aimed high
39
00:02:06.470 --> 00:02:07.160
enough, but
40
00:02:07.160 --> 00:02:09.240
we'll just go with it.
41
00:02:09.240 --> 00:02:14.800
Once I have a feel of this rocking motion with the putter, that was a little
42
00:02:14.800 --> 00:02:15.640
bit better
43
00:02:15.640 --> 00:02:18.160
face control, still low.
44
00:02:18.160 --> 00:02:23.640
Once I have a feel of the stroke following this straight path, then what I'm
45
00:02:23.640 --> 00:02:24.280
going to
46
00:02:24.280 --> 00:02:29.240
do is I'm going to move the golf ball so that my putter is just off of it.
47
00:02:29.240 --> 00:02:32.760
So half an inch fingers width, something like that.
48
00:02:32.760 --> 00:02:38.880
And now I'm going to try and make the same stroke.
49
00:02:38.880 --> 00:02:44.560
And just from moving further forward, it was able to be high enough.
50
00:02:44.560 --> 00:02:47.760
But I'm going to try to make the same stroke where it matches the stick without
51
00:02:47.760 --> 00:02:48.040
actually
52
00:02:48.040 --> 00:02:49.040
hitting it.
53
00:02:49.040 --> 00:02:54.170
If you are, if you tend to pull the path or artificially kind of twist the
54
00:02:54.170 --> 00:02:54.880
pizza, when
55
00:02:54.880 --> 00:02:58.080
you bring it off, you will probably ram into the stick on one side of the other
56
00:02:58.080 --> 00:02:58.240
.
57
00:02:58.240 --> 00:03:04.600
So this is really helpful for training the path of the grip or the shaft.
58
00:03:04.600 --> 00:03:10.470
Now what you'll see from the overhead view is that as I make this stroke, or
59
00:03:10.470 --> 00:03:11.200
what we'll
60
00:03:11.200 --> 00:03:16.490
see from the down line view, is as the putter comes up, it also comes in as it
61
00:03:16.490 --> 00:03:17.040
goes down,
62
00:03:17.040 --> 00:03:20.080
it comes out, and then as it comes up, it comes in.
63
00:03:20.080 --> 00:03:24.330
So there is a little bit of arcing to the stroke, but that's simply because it
64
00:03:24.330 --> 00:03:25.200
's following
65
00:03:25.200 --> 00:03:30.240
a suspension point, and as it comes up, the distance comes in.
66
00:03:30.240 --> 00:03:34.720
It's not that I'm artificially creating some arc and pulling the putter in on
67
00:03:34.720 --> 00:03:35.720
either side.
68
00:03:35.720 --> 00:03:39.680
I'm trying to rock my shoulders and swing the putter straight, and the stick is
69
00:03:39.680 --> 00:03:40.120
giving
70
00:03:40.120 --> 00:03:42.280
me really good feedback for training that stroke.
71
00:03:42.280 --> 00:03:46.950
Okay, from the overhead view, you'll see the slight arcing of the putter coming
72
00:03:46.950 --> 00:03:47.360
in, and
73
00:03:47.360 --> 00:03:52.320
then the slight arcing of the putter coming in on the follow through side.
74
00:03:52.320 --> 00:04:06.720
So one more time, putter just following stick just like that.
1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.280
This drill is grooving your stroke with a putting track.
2
00:00:08.280 --> 00:00:13.570
So this is a really simple device for helping you keep the shape of the pizza
3
00:00:13.570 --> 00:00:14.160
straight.
4
00:00:14.160 --> 00:00:17.100
So when you're doing your stroke, remember one of the things that we're really
5
00:00:17.100 --> 00:00:17.460
trying
6
00:00:17.460 --> 00:00:21.960
to avoid is artificially turning that pizza.
7
00:00:21.960 --> 00:00:26.240
So in order to do that, I'm going to have more of a stroke that travels in a
8
00:00:26.240 --> 00:00:26.900
straight
9
00:00:26.900 --> 00:00:28.600
back and forth direction.
10
00:00:28.600 --> 00:00:34.510
So what I have here is just a PVC pipe that's elevated so that I can have my
11
00:00:34.510 --> 00:00:35.600
golf ball down
12
00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:37.520
on the ground.
13
00:00:37.520 --> 00:00:41.880
And it takes a little practice just kind of figuring out the correct distance.
14
00:00:41.880 --> 00:00:47.600
You want to get the putter so that it's sitting flat and up against the stick.
15
00:00:47.600 --> 00:00:51.480
So the sole is flat there and it's up against the PVC pipe.
16
00:00:51.480 --> 00:00:55.950
And now if I, you know, just for fun, I won't even take a really conventional
17
00:00:55.950 --> 00:00:56.520
grip.
18
00:00:56.520 --> 00:01:00.920
If I just let the putter slide back and forth, I don't think I have this aimed
19
00:01:00.920 --> 00:01:02.540
high enough,
20
00:01:02.540 --> 00:01:08.240
let's tweak that a little bit just for the effect.
21
00:01:08.240 --> 00:01:09.480
Okay.
22
00:01:09.480 --> 00:01:17.280
So if I put it back close to the same spot, so putter sold, all I'm going to do
23
00:01:17.280 --> 00:01:17.880
is keep
24
00:01:17.880 --> 00:01:24.200
the putter face square and let the putter slide back and forth.
25
00:01:24.200 --> 00:01:28.650
As long as I don't twist the face, this is going to help me build this kind of
26
00:01:28.650 --> 00:01:29.360
straight
27
00:01:29.360 --> 00:01:31.080
pizza stroke.
28
00:01:31.080 --> 00:01:34.390
For some people, they feel very restricted on the backswing because they want
29
00:01:34.390 --> 00:01:34.760
to pull
30
00:01:34.760 --> 00:01:39.200
the putter in or cut it outside so it will go like that.
31
00:01:39.200 --> 00:01:45.200
And then other people will feel it more want to slam into the stick on the way
32
00:01:45.200 --> 00:01:46.440
through.
33
00:01:46.440 --> 00:01:52.510
Or occasionally you'll have golfers who kind of excessively move outside, but
34
00:01:52.510 --> 00:01:53.240
the most
35
00:01:53.240 --> 00:01:56.680
common would be pulling it excessively in on the way through.
36
00:01:56.680 --> 00:02:02.190
So I'm going to take my grip, try to focus on my feeling of the suspension
37
00:02:02.190 --> 00:02:03.320
point, kind
38
00:02:03.320 --> 00:02:06.470
of getting it to rock back and forth and I still don't have it aimed high
39
00:02:06.470 --> 00:02:07.160
enough, but
40
00:02:07.160 --> 00:02:09.240
we'll just go with it.
41
00:02:09.240 --> 00:02:14.800
Once I have a feel of this rocking motion with the putter, that was a little
42
00:02:14.800 --> 00:02:15.640
bit better
43
00:02:15.640 --> 00:02:18.160
face control, still low.
44
00:02:18.160 --> 00:02:23.640
Once I have a feel of the stroke following this straight path, then what I'm
45
00:02:23.640 --> 00:02:24.280
going to
46
00:02:24.280 --> 00:02:29.240
do is I'm going to move the golf ball so that my putter is just off of it.
47
00:02:29.240 --> 00:02:32.760
So half an inch fingers width, something like that.
48
00:02:32.760 --> 00:02:38.880
And now I'm going to try and make the same stroke.
49
00:02:38.880 --> 00:02:44.560
And just from moving further forward, it was able to be high enough.
50
00:02:44.560 --> 00:02:47.760
But I'm going to try to make the same stroke where it matches the stick without
51
00:02:47.760 --> 00:02:48.040
actually
52
00:02:48.040 --> 00:02:49.040
hitting it.
53
00:02:49.040 --> 00:02:54.170
If you are, if you tend to pull the path or artificially kind of twist the
54
00:02:54.170 --> 00:02:54.880
pizza, when
55
00:02:54.880 --> 00:02:58.080
you bring it off, you will probably ram into the stick on one side of the other
56
00:02:58.080 --> 00:02:58.240
.
57
00:02:58.240 --> 00:03:04.600
So this is really helpful for training the path of the grip or the shaft.
58
00:03:04.600 --> 00:03:10.470
Now what you'll see from the overhead view is that as I make this stroke, or
59
00:03:10.470 --> 00:03:11.200
what we'll
60
00:03:11.200 --> 00:03:16.490
see from the down line view, is as the putter comes up, it also comes in as it
61
00:03:16.490 --> 00:03:17.040
goes down,
62
00:03:17.040 --> 00:03:20.080
it comes out, and then as it comes up, it comes in.
63
00:03:20.080 --> 00:03:24.330
So there is a little bit of arcing to the stroke, but that's simply because it
64
00:03:24.330 --> 00:03:25.200
's following
65
00:03:25.200 --> 00:03:30.240
a suspension point, and as it comes up, the distance comes in.
66
00:03:30.240 --> 00:03:34.720
It's not that I'm artificially creating some arc and pulling the putter in on
67
00:03:34.720 --> 00:03:35.720
either side.
68
00:03:35.720 --> 00:03:39.680
I'm trying to rock my shoulders and swing the putter straight, and the stick is
69
00:03:39.680 --> 00:03:40.120
giving
70
00:03:40.120 --> 00:03:42.280
me really good feedback for training that stroke.
71
00:03:42.280 --> 00:03:46.950
Okay, from the overhead view, you'll see the slight arcing of the putter coming
72
00:03:46.950 --> 00:03:47.360
in, and
73
00:03:47.360 --> 00:03:52.320
then the slight arcing of the putter coming in on the follow through side.
74
00:03:52.320 --> 00:04:06.720
So one more time, putter just following stick just like that.
