Trajectory mastery gives you precision as well as flexibility around the green
The major factors for controlling trajectory and spin are loft, contact, and angle of attack (AoA). The major ways to adjust those are with set up:
Face Openness
Ball Position
Shaft Lean
Or with movement changes relating to the release or sternum position

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:10.200
Welcome back, golfers, here we are with goal number three in the finesse wedge
2
00:00:10.200 --> 00:00:11.260
building
3
00:00:11.260 --> 00:00:14.700
your stock finesse wedge shot program.
4
00:00:14.700 --> 00:00:18.480
So the third goal is trajectory control.
5
00:00:18.480 --> 00:00:23.120
So you'll see videos over on the right that help you understand how to vary the
6
00:00:23.120 --> 00:00:23.640
shot, how
7
00:00:23.640 --> 00:00:30.680
to play around with setup parameters as well as release styles or swing options
8
00:00:30.680 --> 00:00:31.060
.
9
00:00:31.060 --> 00:00:36.650
In general, what's going to control trajectory is going to be your loft, your
10
00:00:36.650 --> 00:00:38.000
contact location
11
00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:41.640
as well as your angle of attack.
12
00:00:41.640 --> 00:00:45.960
So the combination of loft and angle of attack will give you spin loft.
13
00:00:45.960 --> 00:00:49.880
Those are going to have a big influence and then speed will also influence
14
00:00:49.880 --> 00:00:51.080
trajectory.
15
00:00:51.080 --> 00:00:56.650
But these are the kind of the big parameters if we assume speed is relatively
16
00:00:56.650 --> 00:00:57.720
constant.
17
00:00:57.720 --> 00:01:04.370
So with ball position, we're going to learn how to now have basically three
18
00:01:04.370 --> 00:01:05.400
different
19
00:01:05.400 --> 00:01:10.290
shots, your stock shot being more or less in the middle of your stance, your
20
00:01:10.290 --> 00:01:10.920
low shot
21
00:01:10.920 --> 00:01:16.590
being closer as well as further back, and then your high shot being further
22
00:01:16.590 --> 00:01:17.320
forward
23
00:01:17.320 --> 00:01:19.320
and further away.
24
00:01:19.320 --> 00:01:23.370
So the ball position is not going to be, I just move it straight back, it's
25
00:01:23.370 --> 00:01:23.880
going to
26
00:01:23.880 --> 00:01:28.430
be more on an angle kind of like this, I move it back and close and further in
27
00:01:28.430 --> 00:01:30.120
a way.
28
00:01:30.120 --> 00:01:37.440
So that means set up wise, let's say, a golf ball in place here.
29
00:01:37.440 --> 00:01:43.670
So let's say here is normal, if we were to then bring two more and I was to
30
00:01:43.670 --> 00:01:44.840
exaggerate
31
00:01:44.840 --> 00:01:53.760
it slightly, it would look more like this where the low shot is going to be not
32
00:01:53.760 --> 00:01:54.280
only ball
33
00:01:54.280 --> 00:01:57.640
back but closer, handle will be a little bit higher.
34
00:01:57.640 --> 00:02:01.210
And then when it goes further away, handle is going to come a little bit lower
35
00:02:01.210 --> 00:02:01.600
and I'm
36
00:02:01.600 --> 00:02:04.240
going to lower myself.
37
00:02:04.240 --> 00:02:08.100
Now when it does go further away like this, this is where I can get away with
38
00:02:08.100 --> 00:02:08.640
having a
39
00:02:08.640 --> 00:02:13.550
little bit more tilt, but for these two basic shots, we want to make sure that
40
00:02:13.550 --> 00:02:14.240
we've got
41
00:02:14.240 --> 00:02:20.030
more of that stacked center situation, which we see very nicely here where the
42
00:02:20.030 --> 00:02:20.920
upper body
43
00:02:20.920 --> 00:02:26.960
is very close to on top of the belt buckle or the pelvis.
44
00:02:26.960 --> 00:02:33.540
We can play around with face openness and understand that how shaft height also
45
00:02:33.540 --> 00:02:33.960
affects
46
00:02:33.960 --> 00:02:40.540
face openness, that's one of the ways I want you to be able to get used to
47
00:02:40.540 --> 00:02:42.120
where, how much
48
00:02:42.120 --> 00:02:47.690
when you open the club, how much it actually is pointing right or left, I find
49
00:02:47.690 --> 00:02:48.680
especially
50
00:02:48.680 --> 00:02:53.060
some of my more kind of club golfers, casual golfers will have a hard time
51
00:02:53.060 --> 00:02:54.200
making the same
52
00:02:54.200 --> 00:02:58.240
swing when the club face is looking open like this.
53
00:02:58.240 --> 00:03:01.600
So I'll have a station to help get used to that phenomenon.
54
00:03:01.600 --> 00:03:08.170
And then the more advanced way is making some swing changes, so controlling
55
00:03:08.170 --> 00:03:09.240
loft or shaft
56
00:03:09.240 --> 00:03:15.140
lean within the swing in order to drive some of these loft contact angle of
57
00:03:15.140 --> 00:03:17.000
attack parameters.
58
00:03:17.000 --> 00:03:22.900
This is ultimately I think the one of the most fun options to play around with
59
00:03:22.900 --> 00:03:23.440
once you
60
00:03:23.440 --> 00:03:26.790
get it, but I really want you to make sure you get through those first two
61
00:03:26.790 --> 00:03:27.560
goals first.
62
00:03:27.560 --> 00:03:31.220
You're kind of making solid contact pretty comfortably and you're doing it on a
63
00:03:31.220 --> 00:03:31.640
couple
64
00:03:31.640 --> 00:03:33.480
different length swings.
65
00:03:33.480 --> 00:03:36.520
Once you have that, at the very least you need a high and a low shot.
66
00:03:36.520 --> 00:03:41.920
At the most you can experiment with the release styles and sternum position to
67
00:03:41.920 --> 00:03:42.480
really dial
68
00:03:42.480 --> 00:03:43.960
in fine tuning.
69
00:03:43.960 --> 00:03:50.560
That'll make it easier when we move on to the next section of trying to be able
70
00:03:50.560 --> 00:03:51.220
to adjust
71
00:03:51.220 --> 00:03:55.560
for different slopes and different lives.
1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:10.200
Welcome back, golfers, here we are with goal number three in the finesse wedge
2
00:00:10.200 --> 00:00:11.260
building
3
00:00:11.260 --> 00:00:14.700
your stock finesse wedge shot program.
4
00:00:14.700 --> 00:00:18.480
So the third goal is trajectory control.
5
00:00:18.480 --> 00:00:23.120
So you'll see videos over on the right that help you understand how to vary the
6
00:00:23.120 --> 00:00:23.640
shot, how
7
00:00:23.640 --> 00:00:30.680
to play around with setup parameters as well as release styles or swing options
8
00:00:30.680 --> 00:00:31.060
.
9
00:00:31.060 --> 00:00:36.650
In general, what's going to control trajectory is going to be your loft, your
10
00:00:36.650 --> 00:00:38.000
contact location
11
00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:41.640
as well as your angle of attack.
12
00:00:41.640 --> 00:00:45.960
So the combination of loft and angle of attack will give you spin loft.
13
00:00:45.960 --> 00:00:49.880
Those are going to have a big influence and then speed will also influence
14
00:00:49.880 --> 00:00:51.080
trajectory.
15
00:00:51.080 --> 00:00:56.650
But these are the kind of the big parameters if we assume speed is relatively
16
00:00:56.650 --> 00:00:57.720
constant.
17
00:00:57.720 --> 00:01:04.370
So with ball position, we're going to learn how to now have basically three
18
00:01:04.370 --> 00:01:05.400
different
19
00:01:05.400 --> 00:01:10.290
shots, your stock shot being more or less in the middle of your stance, your
20
00:01:10.290 --> 00:01:10.920
low shot
21
00:01:10.920 --> 00:01:16.590
being closer as well as further back, and then your high shot being further
22
00:01:16.590 --> 00:01:17.320
forward
23
00:01:17.320 --> 00:01:19.320
and further away.
24
00:01:19.320 --> 00:01:23.370
So the ball position is not going to be, I just move it straight back, it's
25
00:01:23.370 --> 00:01:23.880
going to
26
00:01:23.880 --> 00:01:28.430
be more on an angle kind of like this, I move it back and close and further in
27
00:01:28.430 --> 00:01:30.120
a way.
28
00:01:30.120 --> 00:01:37.440
So that means set up wise, let's say, a golf ball in place here.
29
00:01:37.440 --> 00:01:43.670

35
00:02:01.210 --> 00:02:01.600

where, how much
48
00:02:42.120 --> 00:02:47.690
when you open the club, how much it actually is pointing right or left, I find
49
00:02:47.690 --> 00:02:48.680
