You'll commonly face slopes around the green, so you better know how to handle them.

When it comes to slopes there are four general patterns you'll face:

  1. Uphill
  2. Downhill
  3. Ball Above your Feet
  4. Ball Below your Feet

With each shot, you'll want to make adjustments so that the club interacts with the ground the same way it would with a flat lie. The main factors will be leaning your body with the slope, adjusting the ball position forward or backward, and changing the shaft angle. See some of the details in this troubleshooting video.

1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:09.240
This video is adjusting for slopes for your finesse wedge.

2
00:00:09.240 --> 00:00:13.240
So I will go out and demonstrate a few, but I just want to go over some of the

3
00:00:13.240 --> 00:00:13.640
theory

4
00:00:13.640 --> 00:00:15.800
in here.

5
00:00:15.800 --> 00:00:21.170
When it comes to adjusting for slopes, our goal is to get the club to basically

6
00:00:21.170 --> 00:00:21.960
interact

7
00:00:21.960 --> 00:00:25.920
with the ground the same way it would with the flat lie.

8
00:00:25.920 --> 00:00:29.430
We still want the club to kind of brush along the ground for the most part and

9
00:00:29.430 --> 00:00:29.920
create a

10
00:00:29.920 --> 00:00:33.160
little flat spot.

11
00:00:33.160 --> 00:00:37.720
So we are mostly going to make adjustments with our setup for the different

12
00:00:37.720 --> 00:00:38.560
slopes.

13
00:00:38.560 --> 00:00:42.720
Now there are roughly four options, or four different slope patterns.

14
00:00:42.720 --> 00:00:48.860
You can have the ball uphill, if I turned around this way and hit towards that

15
00:00:48.860 --> 00:00:49.640
camera,

16
00:00:49.640 --> 00:00:54.050
this would be ball downhill, and then I could be standing here and have ball

17
00:00:54.050 --> 00:00:55.040
below my feet,

18
00:00:55.040 --> 00:00:58.430
where I am standing above the height of the golf ball, or I could be standing

19
00:00:58.430 --> 00:00:58.760
here and

20
00:00:58.760 --> 00:01:01.160
I could have the ball above my feet.

21
00:01:01.160 --> 00:01:05.320
Now sometimes you will have weird combinations of these.

22
00:01:05.320 --> 00:01:10.170
When you have a weird combination, always try to get the club to interact with

23
00:01:10.170 --> 00:01:10.840
the ground

24
00:01:10.840 --> 00:01:16.480
correctly, rather than trying to perfect the body position.

25
00:01:16.480 --> 00:01:20.500
One classic example, we have an area over here where I can demonstrate where

26
00:01:20.500 --> 00:01:21.040
there is

27
00:01:21.040 --> 00:01:22.040
a hill.

28
00:01:22.040 --> 00:01:25.000
The ball is on one side of the hill and my feet are on the other.

29
00:01:25.000 --> 00:01:27.760
I am not going to play this like the ball above my feet.

30
00:01:27.760 --> 00:01:31.210
I am going to try and play it like the ball below my feet because that is where

31
00:01:31.210 --> 00:01:31.720
the ball

32
00:01:31.720 --> 00:01:33.360
is sitting.

33
00:01:33.360 --> 00:01:38.880
So then in general, you kind of have to figure out, well, what do I need to do?

34
00:01:38.880 --> 00:01:40.520
Do I need to change the angle?

35
00:01:40.520 --> 00:01:43.560
Do I need to change the direction?

36
00:01:43.560 --> 00:01:49.100
Or can I just make my normal swing or my normal swing, but set up with the ball

37
00:01:49.100 --> 00:01:50.040
either a little

38
00:01:50.040 --> 00:01:52.400
bit more back or a little bit more forward.

39
00:01:52.400 --> 00:01:57.690
What you will see is if I had, let's do the one that fits the best for this

40
00:01:57.690 --> 00:01:59.280
camera demonstration.

41
00:01:59.280 --> 00:02:02.640
So here I have the uphill stroke.

42
00:02:02.640 --> 00:02:06.240
If I was to just lean backward to kind of match the slope, what you will see is

43
00:02:06.240 --> 00:02:06.640
this

44
00:02:06.640 --> 00:02:09.520
puts the bottom of the swing backward.

45
00:02:09.520 --> 00:02:14.760
So oftentimes when I have an up slope, I am going to try and lean a little bit.

46
00:02:14.760 --> 00:02:19.520
So then when I match the slope by putting the shoulders tilted.

47
00:02:19.520 --> 00:02:22.470
My upper body is still far enough forward, so the bottom of the swing is ahead

48
00:02:22.470 --> 00:02:22.840
of golf

49
00:02:22.840 --> 00:02:23.840
ball.

50
00:02:23.840 --> 00:02:28.040
The other thing that I might consider messing around with is opening up a

51
00:02:28.040 --> 00:02:29.200
little bit because

52
00:02:29.200 --> 00:02:33.120
if I tilt, if I have my normal set up like this, if I tilt, that puts the

53
00:02:33.120 --> 00:02:33.800
bottom of

54
00:02:33.800 --> 00:02:38.070
the swing backward, but if I swing slightly more outside in, then that moves

55
00:02:38.070 --> 00:02:38.760
the bottom

56
00:02:38.760 --> 00:02:39.920
of the swing back forward.

57
00:02:39.920 --> 00:02:45.160
But I am going to be experimenting with kind of the ground contact in order to

58
00:02:45.160 --> 00:02:45.360
figure that

59
00:02:45.360 --> 00:02:47.080
out.

60
00:02:47.080 --> 00:02:49.680
If I have, we will just kind of go around the clock this way.

61
00:02:49.680 --> 00:02:55.400
If I have ball below my feet, then what I am really watching out for is if I

62
00:02:55.400 --> 00:02:56.260
came from

63
00:02:56.260 --> 00:03:00.520
the inside, the ground is higher on the inside of the ball than it is on the

64
00:03:00.520 --> 00:03:01.260
outside of the

65
00:03:01.260 --> 00:03:02.260
ball.

66
00:03:02.260 --> 00:03:05.480
So if I came from the inside, I would be more likely to chunk or blade it.

67
00:03:05.480 --> 00:03:10.780
To help combat that, I am going to stand the club up a little bit taller and

68
00:03:10.780 --> 00:03:11.600
swing just

69
00:03:11.600 --> 00:03:13.760
slightly more outside in.

70
00:03:13.760 --> 00:03:18.320
Now that can allow me to actually get a little bit shallower with my body

71
00:03:18.320 --> 00:03:19.580
movement so that

72
00:03:19.580 --> 00:03:24.270
even though I am swinging it slightly outside in, I can get a little bit more

73
00:03:24.270 --> 00:03:25.120
side bend on

74
00:03:25.120 --> 00:03:32.920
the way through and that creates a nice little flat brushing location.

75
00:03:32.920 --> 00:03:38.060
So one of the easier shots to hit when the ball is below your feet is when you

76
00:03:38.060 --> 00:03:38.240
have to

77
00:03:38.240 --> 00:03:42.640
hit not a really long flop shot, but if you have to hit kind of a higher pitch

78
00:03:42.640 --> 00:03:43.240
shot, it

79
00:03:43.240 --> 00:03:49.570
sets up for open the face, swing a little bit more outside in, but a little bit

80
00:03:49.570 --> 00:03:50.120
more

81
00:03:50.120 --> 00:03:52.840
shallow body movement tends to work really well.

82
00:03:52.840 --> 00:03:57.920
Okay, so switch the camera for the, or switch the mat for the last two.

83
00:03:57.920 --> 00:04:01.670
So now if I have the downhill, this one I think is the most straightforward

84
00:04:01.670 --> 00:04:02.120
where I

85
00:04:02.120 --> 00:04:04.080
am going to lean with the slope.

86
00:04:04.080 --> 00:04:09.720
I am going to try to get my knees, my hips, my shoulders parallel to the slope.

87
00:04:09.720 --> 00:04:12.720
The only thing that I think is a little bit weird is compared to our normal

88
00:04:12.720 --> 00:04:13.400
finesse wedge

89
00:04:13.400 --> 00:04:17.250
swing, we are going to air on having our feet a little bit wider so that we can

90
00:04:17.250 --> 00:04:18.000
lean into

91
00:04:18.000 --> 00:04:22.400
this lead foot and get that upper body more forward without losing balance.

92
00:04:22.400 --> 00:04:26.190
If I had my feet close together and I lean that much, I would actually step

93
00:04:26.190 --> 00:04:26.720
down the

94
00:04:26.720 --> 00:04:28.000
slope.

95
00:04:28.000 --> 00:04:33.300
So sometimes we can choke up a little bit in order to steepen it, but the main

96
00:04:33.300 --> 00:04:33.920
thing here

97
00:04:33.920 --> 00:04:39.440
is kind of getting the shoulders, hips, and knees parallel to the slope on this

98
00:04:39.440 --> 00:04:39.960
one and

99
00:04:39.960 --> 00:04:42.040
then staying there on the way through.

100
00:04:42.040 --> 00:04:47.340
I find a lot of golfers tend to then back up and you can see the danger here is

101
00:04:47.340 --> 00:04:47.920
if I had

102
00:04:47.920 --> 00:04:52.030
a level swing, the bottom of the swing is going to contact the ground way back

103
00:04:52.030 --> 00:04:52.440
here.

104
00:04:52.440 --> 00:04:55.120
I am either going to chunk or top it.

105
00:04:55.120 --> 00:04:58.960
And the last one is ball above your feet.

106
00:04:58.960 --> 00:05:04.640
This is where I think the making contact is actually somewhat easier.

107
00:05:04.640 --> 00:05:09.640
I can kind of stand a little bit further away and swing more around me.

108
00:05:09.640 --> 00:05:13.590
The thing you have to watch out for is as the club comes up, the club face

109
00:05:13.590 --> 00:05:14.720
starts naturally

110
00:05:14.720 --> 00:05:18.240
pointing more to the left.

111
00:05:18.240 --> 00:05:23.530
So as I was saying, as the club, the more loft, the more that this phenomena

112
00:05:23.530 --> 00:05:23.960
happens,

113
00:05:23.960 --> 00:05:27.680
but as the club comes up, you can see that this points way to the left.

114
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:32.280
So I often have to err on having the club face a little bit more open when the

115
00:05:32.280 --> 00:05:33.160
ball is above

116
00:05:33.160 --> 00:05:34.160
my feet.

117
00:05:34.160 --> 00:05:38.150
So I am going to err on maybe getting a little bit more shaft lean so that when

118
00:05:38.150 --> 00:05:38.760
I open the

119
00:05:38.760 --> 00:05:42.080
face, I don't just add a ton of loft.

120
00:05:42.080 --> 00:05:47.000
So ball may be a little bit more back if I need it to run.

121
00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:51.330
The easy shot here is if I have to hit more of a high pit shot out of the rough

122
00:05:51.330 --> 00:05:51.960
, I just

123
00:05:51.960 --> 00:05:56.430
open the face and the natural swing is going to be more around so I can bottom

124
00:05:56.430 --> 00:05:57.280
out a little

125
00:05:57.280 --> 00:06:00.640
bit flatter or a little bit behind the ball and as long as the ball has a

126
00:06:00.640 --> 00:06:01.560
little cushion,

127
00:06:01.560 --> 00:06:04.880
it's quite easy to get the ball to pop up.

128
00:06:04.880 --> 00:06:08.630
But the main thing on the ball above your feet because of the loft of the club

129
00:06:08.630 --> 00:06:09.360
is watching

130
00:06:09.360 --> 00:06:13.520
out for how much the club face closes as a result of the slope.

131
00:06:13.520 --> 00:06:16.060
So in the rest of the video, we'll go out and actually demonstrate how we'll

132
00:06:16.060 --> 00:06:16.400
adjust

133
00:06:16.400 --> 00:06:17.400
for each of these shots.

134
00:06:17.400 --> 00:06:20.840
Okay, so next we have the uphill shot.

135
00:06:20.840 --> 00:06:23.800
There's two different adjustments I like to make for the uphill shot.

136
00:06:23.800 --> 00:06:28.340
The easiest shot is if you need to go high off the uphill shot because if the

137
00:06:28.340 --> 00:06:28.840
ball is

138
00:06:28.840 --> 00:06:33.470
sitting on the ground and it's tilted this way, there's less stuff behind the

139
00:06:33.470 --> 00:06:34.360
golf ball.

140
00:06:34.360 --> 00:06:39.940
So you can come in, I'm just going to tilt a little bit with the slope and I'm

141
00:06:39.940 --> 00:06:40.640
going to

142
00:06:40.640 --> 00:06:48.700
air on being a little bit more wide, kind of Jason Day, Steve Stricher style

143
00:06:48.700 --> 00:06:49.680
and I can

144
00:06:49.680 --> 00:06:56.730
just sweep almost up into the ball, but that's going to tend to come off a

145
00:06:56.730 --> 00:06:58.480
little bit higher.

146
00:06:58.480 --> 00:07:03.970
So if I need to hit a low running shot, then I will tend to balance it by

147
00:07:03.970 --> 00:07:05.480
getting a little

148
00:07:05.480 --> 00:07:12.240
bit more level with my shoulders and aiming just a touch more left with my path

149
00:07:12.240 --> 00:07:12.680
.

150
00:07:12.680 --> 00:07:19.170
So I've got ball back and now it's going to come out a little bit more low with

151
00:07:19.170 --> 00:07:19.920
a little

152
00:07:19.920 --> 00:07:22.520
bit of extra run.

153
00:07:22.520 --> 00:07:28.430
So I'm still kind of leaning backward, but I've balanced that by getting my

154
00:07:28.430 --> 00:07:29.360
shoulders

155
00:07:29.360 --> 00:07:34.400
a little bit more open, ball position back, kind of fighting the slope.

156
00:07:34.400 --> 00:07:39.090
So the easiest shot is going high, kind of working with the slope, but just in

157
00:07:39.090 --> 00:07:39.640
case you

158
00:07:39.640 --> 00:07:45.070
have to, that shot doesn't work, if you have to hit it low, then I recommend

159
00:07:45.070 --> 00:07:45.960
adjusting

160
00:07:45.960 --> 00:07:49.860
with a little bit more open stance ball back to balance the shoulders matching

161
00:07:49.860 --> 00:07:50.560
the slope.

162
00:07:50.560 --> 00:07:54.500
Okay, so first shot we're going to demonstrate is the downhill shot.

163
00:07:54.500 --> 00:08:00.260
So again, this is the one where widening the stance helps shift so that I can

164
00:08:00.260 --> 00:08:01.520
get my shoulders,

165
00:08:01.520 --> 00:08:07.450
my hips and my knees parallel to the slope and then I'm pretty much going to

166
00:08:07.450 --> 00:08:08.160
stay in

167
00:08:08.160 --> 00:08:09.160
that tilt.

168
00:08:09.160 --> 00:08:14.400
So it's going to feel like I'm very much over that front foot, hands can be a

169
00:08:14.400 --> 00:08:14.640
little bit

170
00:08:14.640 --> 00:08:19.520
ahead depending on the trajectory that I'm trying to hit.

171
00:08:19.520 --> 00:08:25.320
And it's going to tend to come out lower like you saw that shot, but oftentimes

172
00:08:25.320 --> 00:08:25.640
you

173
00:08:25.640 --> 00:08:28.560
can get even a little bit of spin.

174
00:08:28.560 --> 00:08:35.190
So oftentimes what we'll do is we'll exaggerate getting that club face nice and

175
00:08:35.190 --> 00:08:36.200
open to get

176
00:08:36.200 --> 00:08:41.490
a little bit more spin since we're not going to be able to stop it with height

177
00:08:41.490 --> 00:08:41.680
typically,

178
00:08:41.680 --> 00:08:44.160
so we're going to stay with that slope.

179
00:08:44.160 --> 00:08:50.030
Now if we do have to go high, then we can go even a little bit wider, a little

180
00:08:50.030 --> 00:08:51.080
bit further

181
00:08:51.080 --> 00:08:56.380
away, play the ball position more forward, it's tiny bit more risky, but we're

182
00:08:56.380 --> 00:08:56.880
going

183
00:08:56.880 --> 00:09:01.680
to still stay in that forward position.

184
00:09:01.680 --> 00:09:06.150
But unless you really have to hit more of a flop shot, that's usually going to

185
00:09:06.150 --> 00:09:06.440
be high

186
00:09:06.440 --> 00:09:07.440
enough.

187
00:09:07.440 --> 00:09:12.160
You're going to get some spin and you're going to get the ball to stop.

188
00:09:12.160 --> 00:09:16.840
Oftentimes this happens when you've short-sided yourself.

189
00:09:16.840 --> 00:09:22.600
So if I come, oftentimes you face this scenario on the backside of a green

190
00:09:22.600 --> 00:09:23.920
where you've just

191
00:09:23.920 --> 00:09:25.960
hit it a little bit too long.

192
00:09:25.960 --> 00:09:29.680
So this is some pretty fluffy lie right now.

193
00:09:29.680 --> 00:09:34.010
So I've leaned into it, I've got the club face nice and open, and then I'm just

194
00:09:34.010 --> 00:09:34.520
going

195
00:09:34.520 --> 00:09:40.100
to stay with the slope and you'll be able to, like I said, hopefully it's going

196
00:09:40.100 --> 00:09:40.640
to launch

197
00:09:40.640 --> 00:09:43.500
low, but if you're making pretty clean contact, you'll still get a fair amount

198
00:09:43.500 --> 00:09:43.960
of spin and

199
00:09:43.960 --> 00:09:45.440
get it to stop.

200
00:09:45.440 --> 00:09:48.220
So that's, I think, one of the harder ones, but it's also one of the more

201
00:09:48.220 --> 00:09:48.920
important ones

202
00:09:48.920 --> 00:09:50.080
for you to practice.

203
00:09:50.080 --> 00:09:51.080
That's the downhill slope.

204
00:09:51.080 --> 00:09:54.720
Okay, so now we have ball below our feet.

205
00:09:54.720 --> 00:09:57.780
This one, I think, is one of the easier shots if you have a lot of space and

206
00:09:57.780 --> 00:09:58.440
you can kind

207
00:09:58.440 --> 00:10:02.320
of run it because we're going to try to get steeper again.

208
00:10:02.320 --> 00:10:06.510
The ball, if I were to come from the inside, the ground is in the way from the

209
00:10:06.510 --> 00:10:07.120
inside.

210
00:10:07.120 --> 00:10:11.120
So coming a little bit more high to low or steep is going to work out.

211
00:10:11.120 --> 00:10:15.170
So I'm going to stand the club up, play the ball a little bit more back, and

212
00:10:15.170 --> 00:10:15.840
now I'm going

213
00:10:15.840 --> 00:10:19.560
to swing just a touch more vertical.

214
00:10:19.560 --> 00:10:23.520
And I'm not aimed at the hole, I'm going left of it just to match the slope

215
00:10:23.520 --> 00:10:24.240
better.

216
00:10:24.240 --> 00:10:26.680
So it's pure side hill.

217
00:10:26.680 --> 00:10:31.970
So this is the easiest stand a little bit closer and then swing a little bit

218
00:10:31.970 --> 00:10:32.880
more kind of up

219
00:10:32.880 --> 00:10:37.510
and down and it'll launch low, but it's one of the easier shots in order to get

220
00:10:37.510 --> 00:10:37.960
clean

221
00:10:37.960 --> 00:10:41.800
contact as long as you keep your hands ahead and keep it moving.

222
00:10:41.800 --> 00:10:48.110
The other alternative is if you have to hit high, this is where the path works

223
00:10:48.110 --> 00:10:48.800
in your

224
00:10:48.800 --> 00:10:49.800
favor.

225
00:10:49.800 --> 00:10:55.440
So you can hit a little bit more of kind of a cut lob where you have, you're

226
00:10:55.440 --> 00:10:56.120
going to

227
00:10:56.120 --> 00:10:59.910
have to lower the handle just a touch, but maybe not quite as low as you would

228
00:10:59.910 --> 00:11:00.400
get on

229
00:11:00.400 --> 00:11:02.520
a flat lie.

230
00:11:02.520 --> 00:11:05.920
And now what I'm going to feel is I'm going to feel like I swing a little bit

231
00:11:05.920 --> 00:11:06.680
more outside

232
00:11:06.680 --> 00:11:11.970
in, but because I'm going more outside in, I can err on getting a little bit

233
00:11:11.970 --> 00:11:12.600
shallower

234
00:11:12.600 --> 00:11:20.830
and be a little bit more aggressive with the side bend and kind of the ground

235
00:11:20.830 --> 00:11:22.240
contact.

236
00:11:22.240 --> 00:11:26.240
So kind of slid up the face on that one.

237
00:11:26.240 --> 00:11:30.440
I don't really have a distance target, but the club is a little bit more

238
00:11:30.440 --> 00:11:31.280
outside.

239
00:11:31.280 --> 00:11:32.800
That was pretty good there.

240
00:11:32.800 --> 00:11:35.920
So a lot of spin.

241
00:11:35.920 --> 00:11:39.680
This cut lob is one of the highest spin producing shots.

242
00:11:39.680 --> 00:11:44.970
So a little bit outside, a little bit more side bend caught that fat, but still

243
00:11:44.970 --> 00:11:45.040
worked

244
00:11:45.040 --> 00:11:46.000
out pretty nice.

245
00:11:46.000 --> 00:11:50.410
Again, the easiest shot for this one is the one that works with the slope is

246
00:11:50.410 --> 00:11:51.120
just ball

247
00:11:51.120 --> 00:11:57.440
back, stand a little bit closer to it, and you can get it, you can hit kind of

248
00:11:57.440 --> 00:11:58.040
more of

249
00:11:58.040 --> 00:12:01.030
your standard chip shot, hit a low running shot very easily when the ball's

250
00:12:01.030 --> 00:12:01.560
below your

251
00:12:01.560 --> 00:12:02.560
feet like this.

252
00:12:02.560 --> 00:12:06.320
Okay, last shot here, we have the ball above your feet.

253
00:12:06.320 --> 00:12:09.320
So if I was to, here's the slope.

254
00:12:09.320 --> 00:12:12.460
If I have the ball sitting on the slope, you'll see I have more space coming

255
00:12:12.460 --> 00:12:14.040
from the inside.

256
00:12:14.040 --> 00:12:16.200
And if I come from the outside, I'd contact the ground.

257
00:12:16.200 --> 00:12:19.840
So I'm going to tend to err on being a little bit shallower.

258
00:12:19.840 --> 00:12:22.970
So typically the way you're going to do that is just by standing a little bit

259
00:12:22.970 --> 00:12:23.560
taller and

260
00:12:23.560 --> 00:12:27.280
swinging maybe just the touch more around.

261
00:12:27.280 --> 00:12:30.880
Now what you have to watch out for here is the club face.

262
00:12:30.880 --> 00:12:34.460
So the easiest shot when you're swinging more around, standing a little bit

263
00:12:34.460 --> 00:12:35.160
taller, is to

264
00:12:35.160 --> 00:12:39.560
go for more of just a standard or high shot.

265
00:12:39.560 --> 00:12:43.100
The low shot is where we'll typically get into a little bit of trouble,

266
00:12:43.100 --> 00:12:43.880
especially when

267
00:12:43.880 --> 00:12:47.010
if you start playing with the club face two square, with the club face square,

268
00:12:47.010 --> 00:12:47.480
the ball

269
00:12:47.480 --> 00:12:50.720
is going to tend to shoot off a little bit left.

270
00:12:50.720 --> 00:12:56.010
If I get this low, sometimes this messes up, but you'll see just by kind of

271
00:12:56.010 --> 00:12:56.600
turning through

272
00:12:56.600 --> 00:13:01.600
with the club face low how much the ball kicked off there to the left.

273
00:13:01.600 --> 00:13:05.370
So oftentimes what you'll have to do, we're standing a little bit taller, you

274
00:13:05.370 --> 00:13:05.960
're going

275
00:13:05.960 --> 00:13:09.600
to err on having the club face just slightly more open.

276
00:13:09.600 --> 00:13:13.650
And that slightly open club face, which will point things more in the general

277
00:13:13.650 --> 00:13:14.320
direction

278
00:13:14.320 --> 00:13:19.680
of the target, is going to tend to fit well with a little bit higher shot.

279
00:13:19.680 --> 00:13:24.070
Now the other thing that you can do to combat that is play the ball just a

280
00:13:24.070 --> 00:13:25.520
touch more backward.

281
00:13:25.520 --> 00:13:29.250
By playing it on the back foot, as long as you still sweep around, you'll

282
00:13:29.250 --> 00:13:30.080
probably get

283
00:13:30.080 --> 00:13:32.440
good ground contact.

284
00:13:32.440 --> 00:13:38.800
So a little bit more kind of sweeping Steve Stryker style, kind of like that.

285
00:13:38.800 --> 00:13:44.520
That would be your standard shot hitting with the ball above your feet.

286
00:13:44.520 --> 00:13:50.780
Now if you do have to do the low one, standing the club up can help, gets a

287
00:13:50.780 --> 00:13:52.560
little bit risky,

288
00:13:52.560 --> 00:13:55.760
but swinging outside and getting a little steeper, that's not my favorite.

289
00:13:55.760 --> 00:14:00.900
So what I like to do is set up with a little bit more closed if I need to go

290
00:14:00.900 --> 00:14:01.720
low and then

291
00:14:01.720 --> 00:14:08.360
play more of kind of a low running, almost like a hook shot, similar like that.

292
00:14:08.360 --> 00:14:12.060
But the default, the easiest shot would be going a little bit higher because

293
00:14:12.060 --> 00:14:12.600
then the

294
00:14:12.600 --> 00:14:16.480
club face, the path, and everything matches the slope a little bit better.

295
00:14:16.480 --> 00:14:22.240
So it doesn't have to be kind of crazy high, but the higher shot gives you a

296
00:14:22.240 --> 00:14:23.280
pretty good

297
00:14:23.280 --> 00:14:25.960
margin of error here when the ball's above your feet.

298
00:14:25.960 --> 00:14:29.830
So when you're practicing your finesse wedge, be sure to, once you've dialed in

299
00:14:29.830 --> 00:14:30.280
kind of

300
00:14:30.280 --> 00:14:33.360
your basic shot, be sure to do some random practice where you're working on

301
00:14:33.360 --> 00:14:33.880
different

302
00:14:33.880 --> 00:14:37.430
slopes and different lies to become a real master of your finesse wedge around

303
00:14:37.430 --> 00:14:37.920
the green.
