Changing the stroke is riskier, but can be more powerful than simple setup changes
To change your trajectory by changing the swing, you can make the following adjustments. Keep in mind that you'll often make multiple changes at the same time:
- Swing wider, slower, and smoother
- Shorten the finish
- Swing more vertical
- Keep the wrist more flat instead of cupped
- Move contact location closer to the ball
To hit the ball higher, simply do the opposite:
- Swing narrower and quicker especially with the release
- Swing to a full finish
- Swing more horizontal
- Keep the wrist more extension
- Strike the sand further behind the ball

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:09.120
In this video, we're going to discuss changing trajectory with your stroke.
2
00:00:09.120 --> 00:00:13.270
So as we talked about in the last video, some of the easier ways to influence
3
00:00:13.270 --> 00:00:14.000
trajectory
4
00:00:14.000 --> 00:00:15.480
are just with setup changes.
5
00:00:15.480 --> 00:00:19.570
But now we're going to talk about ways that we can change our stroke in order
6
00:00:19.570 --> 00:00:20.160
to affect
7
00:00:20.160 --> 00:00:21.560
trajectory.
8
00:00:21.560 --> 00:00:23.960
Most of the time we're going to make these changes.
9
00:00:23.960 --> 00:00:27.960
It's either we're a more advanced golfer and we find that we can dial it up a
10
00:00:27.960 --> 00:00:28.440
little
11
00:00:28.440 --> 00:00:34.190
bit easier with some of these changes or we're in a situation where we have
12
00:00:34.190 --> 00:00:35.080
some extreme
13
00:00:35.080 --> 00:00:40.270
scenarios that we have to work through such as really high lips or different
14
00:00:40.270 --> 00:00:40.800
types of
15
00:00:40.800 --> 00:00:43.160
sand potentially.
16
00:00:43.160 --> 00:00:48.340
But some golfers, for example, someone like Stan Utley talk about doing a lot
17
00:00:48.340 --> 00:00:48.880
and feeling
18
00:00:48.880 --> 00:00:49.880
it in the hands.
19
00:00:49.880 --> 00:00:54.350
So making some of these swing changes are more natural if you have a high level
20
00:00:54.350 --> 00:00:56.000
of feel.
21
00:00:56.000 --> 00:01:00.150
So first ones we're going to talk about are the main swing changes and then we
22
00:01:00.150 --> 00:01:00.720
'll talk
23
00:01:00.720 --> 00:01:05.920
about a little kind of concept changes that can influence as well.
24
00:01:05.920 --> 00:01:10.530
So the main swing changes are again trying to do some of the same things that
25
00:01:10.530 --> 00:01:10.960
we did
26
00:01:10.960 --> 00:01:15.110
with setup, which is we're going to try to apply more of an open club face in
27
00:01:15.110 --> 00:01:15.640
order to
28
00:01:15.640 --> 00:01:18.840
hit high or more of a square club face in order to hit it low.
29
00:01:18.840 --> 00:01:22.100
We're going to swing a little flatter to hit it high or we're going to swing a
30
00:01:22.100 --> 00:01:22.560
little
31
00:01:22.560 --> 00:01:24.760
steeper to hit it low.
32
00:01:24.760 --> 00:01:28.860
So when it comes to doing that more with your stroke, the main things that will
33
00:01:28.860 --> 00:01:29.440
tend to hit
34
00:01:29.440 --> 00:01:34.620
it high and soft would be feeling a little bit more of cupping that lead wrist
35
00:01:34.620 --> 00:01:35.080
in the
36
00:01:35.080 --> 00:01:42.040
backswing and then keeping that cup and just letting the club really pass kind
37
00:01:42.040 --> 00:01:42.680
of down
38
00:01:42.680 --> 00:01:45.800
at the bottom a little bit more like that.
39
00:01:45.800 --> 00:01:51.680
That can feel really comfortable for a high soft shot where you know with this
40
00:01:51.680 --> 00:01:52.320
cupped
41
00:01:52.320 --> 00:01:56.390
wrist position it's going to be very difficult to hit it past a certain
42
00:01:56.390 --> 00:01:57.240
distance.
43
00:01:57.240 --> 00:02:00.120
So I recommend doing that with some of your distance training to see what the
44
00:02:00.120 --> 00:02:00.680
upper limit
45
00:02:00.680 --> 00:02:02.520
is.
46
00:02:02.520 --> 00:02:07.160
So oftentimes when you do that we're going to feel like we swing a little bit
47
00:02:07.160 --> 00:02:08.480
more around
48
00:02:08.480 --> 00:02:13.880
or flat as opposed to a little bit more up and down.
49
00:02:13.880 --> 00:02:20.060
The main time where we're going to want the a little bit less open club face
50
00:02:20.060 --> 00:02:20.560
and a little
51
00:02:20.560 --> 00:02:24.420
bit steeper movement is when the ball is sitting down and we have lots of green
52
00:02:24.420 --> 00:02:25.000
to work with
53
00:02:25.000 --> 00:02:28.160
and we want to hit more of a chunk and run style shot.
54
00:02:28.160 --> 00:02:33.900
Oftentimes out of say a fried egg or when the ball is sitting in a down
55
00:02:33.900 --> 00:02:35.240
position it's
56
00:02:35.240 --> 00:02:39.550
risky to close the face too much but feeling like the wrist doesn't open quite
57
00:02:39.550 --> 00:02:40.080
as much
58
00:02:40.080 --> 00:02:43.750
and the swing is a little bit steeper is one of the ways to make sure that you
59
00:02:43.750 --> 00:02:44.480
don't blade
60
00:02:44.480 --> 00:02:47.120
that shot or chunk that shot.
61
00:02:47.120 --> 00:02:54.080
Okay, so let's draw a couple feedback lines, love doing that in the bunker.
62
00:02:54.080 --> 00:02:58.700
Okay, so now like I said these are a little bit riskier than the setup changes
63
00:02:58.700 --> 00:02:59.680
but sometimes
64
00:02:59.680 --> 00:03:04.450
these have really big impacts and feel very comfortable for golfers who have a
65
00:03:04.450 --> 00:03:05.520
high awareness
66
00:03:05.520 --> 00:03:08.760
of the swing in the hand position.
67
00:03:08.760 --> 00:03:13.940
So I'm going to feel like I'm going to go maximum extension and then keep that
68
00:03:13.940 --> 00:03:14.560
extension
69
00:03:14.560 --> 00:03:16.840
on the way through.
70
00:03:16.840 --> 00:03:23.400
So it might set up just a little bit more vertical, maximum extension.
71
00:03:23.400 --> 00:03:27.380
Keep that extension and you'll see I swung, I released really hard and that
72
00:03:27.380 --> 00:03:28.000
ball just
73
00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:34.680
pops straight up and for me it's hard to hit that more than about 10 yards.
74
00:03:34.680 --> 00:03:38.220
So I've got that purple noodle at about 15, the flag is pretty close to 10, I
75
00:03:38.220 --> 00:03:38.720
went like
76
00:03:38.720 --> 00:03:39.920
eight or nine in the air.
77
00:03:39.920 --> 00:03:44.480
So that can be one of the more powerful ways, especially out of kind of fluffy
78
00:03:44.480 --> 00:03:45.080
sand, that
79
00:03:45.080 --> 00:03:49.480
can be one of the more powerful ways to get a lot of height very quickly.
80
00:03:49.480 --> 00:03:55.950
So now I mentioned one of the times when we'll typically use the a little bit
81
00:03:55.950 --> 00:03:57.480
steeper option
82
00:03:57.480 --> 00:03:58.920
is when the ball is sitting down.
83
00:03:58.920 --> 00:04:02.080
So there I've got a little bit more of a fried egg.
84
00:04:02.080 --> 00:04:05.810
So in addition to maybe feeling a little bit more stacked I'm now going to
85
00:04:05.810 --> 00:04:06.720
swing the club
86
00:04:06.720 --> 00:04:12.300
a little bit more up and down and as it's coming down in order to keep the club
87
00:04:12.300 --> 00:04:13.040
working
88
00:04:13.040 --> 00:04:17.420
down into the sand I'm not going to let the wrist extend quite as much I'm
89
00:04:17.420 --> 00:04:18.280
going to keep
90
00:04:18.280 --> 00:04:24.130
it a little bit more neutral and the club is often just going to stop a little
91
00:04:24.130 --> 00:04:24.800
bit deeper
92
00:04:24.800 --> 00:04:25.800
in the sand.
93
00:04:25.800 --> 00:04:29.640
So it's going to go down you can see I got even more of a fried egg now from
94
00:04:29.640 --> 00:04:30.400
that little
95
00:04:30.400 --> 00:04:31.400
practice swing.
96
00:04:31.400 --> 00:04:32.400
So this will be good.
97
00:04:32.400 --> 00:04:37.580
So I'm going to lean a little bit more, swing the arm motion a little bit more
98
00:04:37.580 --> 00:04:38.080
vertical
99
00:04:38.080 --> 00:04:44.270
and then hold that angle of the wrist and you'll see that that's going to come
100
00:04:44.270 --> 00:04:44.680
out
101
00:04:44.680 --> 00:04:46.640
a little bit knuckly.
102
00:04:46.640 --> 00:04:52.310
It's not quite as extreme as the ball is really plugged the easiest way to get
103
00:04:52.310 --> 00:04:52.720
it out
104
00:04:52.720 --> 00:04:59.320
is to close the face but going steep with neutral face is a little bit easier
105
00:04:59.320 --> 00:05:00.240
like it's
106
00:05:00.240 --> 00:05:04.480
not going to be quite as dramatic as far as low and releasing it's still going
107
00:05:04.480 --> 00:05:05.240
to release
108
00:05:05.240 --> 00:05:10.500
some but oftentimes it's just really hard to get the ball to stop short when
109
00:05:10.500 --> 00:05:11.200
you have
110
00:05:11.200 --> 00:05:12.800
a fried egg like that.
111
00:05:12.800 --> 00:05:17.940
So it was the most common kind of arm manipulation similar to what we talked
112
00:05:17.940 --> 00:05:18.880
about with the finesse
113
00:05:18.880 --> 00:05:19.880
wedges.
114
00:05:19.880 --> 00:05:23.600
But I want to talk about two more concept things that you can do to influence
115
00:05:23.600 --> 00:05:24.680
trajectory.
116
00:05:24.680 --> 00:05:26.640
One is swing speed.
117
00:05:26.640 --> 00:05:33.170
So in the distance section we talk about kind of varying your tempo a little
118
00:05:33.170 --> 00:05:33.680
bit.
119
00:05:33.680 --> 00:05:38.470
One of the concepts here is the slower that I swing in general the lower that
120
00:05:38.470 --> 00:05:39.340
the launch
121
00:05:39.340 --> 00:05:43.540
is going to be and the faster that I swing the more I can get this to pop up
122
00:05:43.540 --> 00:05:44.200
high.
123
00:05:44.200 --> 00:05:47.610
So usually it's complimentary the faster I swing the more I can open the face
124
00:05:47.610 --> 00:05:48.000
and the
125
00:05:48.000 --> 00:05:52.840
slower I swing the more I'm going to want to play a face that's pretty square.
126
00:05:52.840 --> 00:05:56.990
So if you're a lower swing player kind of a newer golfer you might not want to
127
00:05:56.990 --> 00:05:57.400
open
128
00:05:57.400 --> 00:06:00.560
the club face dramatically like they might say on Instagram.
129
00:06:00.560 --> 00:06:08.760
So if I get this set up and I just do a really kind of longer but slower swing
130
00:06:08.760 --> 00:06:10.120
you'll see
131
00:06:10.120 --> 00:06:14.910
that that ball comes out really low compared to I already demonstrated the fast
132
00:06:14.910 --> 00:06:15.600
one where
133
00:06:15.600 --> 00:06:20.120
I released the club you saw that had a lot of speed and the ball pops up.
134
00:06:20.120 --> 00:06:25.200
So one of the ways especially on the longer shot that sounds counter intuitive
135
00:06:25.200 --> 00:06:25.800
but perhaps
136
00:06:25.800 --> 00:06:31.370
I take a little bit more of a longer club with less loft and I swing slow so
137
00:06:31.370 --> 00:06:31.960
the ball
138
00:06:31.960 --> 00:06:36.000
will come out lower and have a little bit more run.
139
00:06:36.000 --> 00:06:42.160
The other one the last the kind of the riskiest is changing contact location.
140
00:06:42.160 --> 00:06:47.710
So I tend to think that this is by far the riskiest option but trying to get
141
00:06:47.710 --> 00:06:48.480
contact
142
00:06:48.480 --> 00:06:51.480
a little bit closer to the golfer or a little bit cleaner.
143
00:06:51.480 --> 00:06:56.650
You really have to work on your low point control in order to do that and you
144
00:06:56.650 --> 00:06:57.440
can combo that
145
00:06:57.440 --> 00:06:59.080
with some of the other options.
146
00:06:59.080 --> 00:07:05.650
So potentially if I wanted to swing really fast really hard and get a little
147
00:07:05.650 --> 00:07:06.460
bit more
148
00:07:06.460 --> 00:07:10.200
distance than when I hit that 10 yard shot oh man this is scary.
149
00:07:10.200 --> 00:07:14.840
A little bit more distance I have to try to get contact really close to the
150
00:07:14.840 --> 00:07:16.560
golf ball.
151
00:07:16.560 --> 00:07:23.900
Too much golf ball this is why caution trying to get that contact right at the
152
00:07:23.900 --> 00:07:24.760
golf ball.
153
00:07:24.760 --> 00:07:28.080
So we'll try to do that again so now I'm trying to double my distance I'm
154
00:07:28.080 --> 00:07:28.360
trying to
155
00:07:28.360 --> 00:07:35.000
hit this all the way to the back of the green with a cupped face high release.
156
00:07:35.000 --> 00:07:39.730
So that was pretty close to as good as I got where that contacted just behind
157
00:07:39.730 --> 00:07:40.460
the golf
158
00:07:40.460 --> 00:07:44.060
ball but you saw the risk of the first one it wasn't a terrible shot or a
159
00:07:44.060 --> 00:07:45.000
terrible swing
160
00:07:45.000 --> 00:07:48.640
I should say but it was a terrible shot that likely went out of bounds.
161
00:07:48.640 --> 00:07:53.750
So I caution unless you're practicing your bunker shots at least a couple times
162
00:07:53.750 --> 00:07:54.160
a week
163
00:07:54.160 --> 00:07:58.160
I wouldn't vary the contact location instead I would take one of the other
164
00:07:58.160 --> 00:07:58.920
options.
165
00:07:58.920 --> 00:08:03.240
So you can either play with the setup changes or the swing and concept changes
166
00:08:03.240 --> 00:08:04.120
to influence
167
00:08:04.120 --> 00:08:08.800
your trajectory for your specific bunker shots.
1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:09.120
In this video, we're going to discuss changing trajectory with your stroke.
2
00:00:09.120 --> 00:00:13.270
So as we talked about in the last video, some of the easier ways to influence
3
00:00:13.270 --> 00:00:14.000
trajectory
4
00:00:14.000 --> 00:00:15.480
are just with setup changes.
5
00:00:15.480 --> 00:00:19.570
But now we're going to talk about ways that we can change our stroke in order
6
00:00:19.570 --> 00:00:20.160
to affect
7
00:00:20.160 --> 00:00:21.560
trajectory.
8
00:00:21.560 --> 00:00:23.960
Most of the time we're going to make these changes.
9
00:00:23.960 --> 00:00:27.960
It's either we're a more advanced golfer and we find that we can dial it up a
10
00:00:27.960 --> 00:00:28.440
little
11
00:00:28.440 --> 00:00:34.190
bit easier with some of these changes or we're in a situation where we have
12
00:00:34.190 --> 00:00:35.080
some extreme
13
00:00:35.080 --> 00:00:40.270
scenarios that we have to work through such as really high lips or different
14
00:00:40.270 --> 00:00:40.800
types of
15
00:00:40.800 --> 00:00:43.160
sand potentially.
16
00:00:43.160 --> 00:00:48.340
But some golfers, for example, someone like Stan Utley talk about doing a lot
17
00:00:48.340 --> 00:00:48.880
and feeling
18
00:00:48.880 --> 00:00:49.880
it in the hands.
19
00:00:49.880 --> 00:00:54.350
So making some of these swing changes are more natural if you have a high level
20
00:00:54.350 --> 00:00:56.000
of feel.
21
00:00:56.000 --> 00:01:00.150
So first ones we're going to talk about are the main swing changes and then we
22
00:01:00.150 --> 00:01:00.720
'll talk
23
00:01:00.720 --> 00:01:05.920
about a little kind of concept changes that can influence as well.
24
00:01:05.920 --> 00:01:10.530
So the main swing changes are again trying to do some of the same things that
25
00:01:10.530 --> 00:01:10.960
we did
26
00:01:10.960 --> 00:01:15.110
with setup, which is we're going to try to apply more of an open club face in
27
00:01:15.110 --> 00:01:15.640
order to
28
00:01:15.640 --> 00:01:18.840
hit high or more of a square club face in order to hit it low.
29
00:01:18.840 --> 00:01:22.100
We're going to swing a little flatter to hit it high or we're going to swing a
30
00:01:22.100 --> 00:01:22.560
little
31
00:01:22.560 --> 00:01:24.760
steeper to hit it low.
32
00:01:24.760 --> 00:01:28.860
So when it comes to doing that more with your stroke, the main things that will
33
00:01:28.860 --> 00:01:29.440
tend to hit
34
00:01:29.440 --> 00:01:34.620
it high and soft would be feeling a little bit more of cupping that lead wrist
35
00:01:34.620 --> 00:01:35.080
in the
36
00:01:35.080 --> 00:01:42.040
backswing and then keeping that cup and just letting the club really pass kind
37
00:01:42.040 --> 00:01:42.680
of down
38
00:01:42.680 --> 00:01:45.800
at the bottom a little bit more like that.
39
00:01:45.800 --> 00:01:51.680
That can feel really comfortable for a high soft shot where you know with this
40
00:01:51.680 --> 00:01:52.320
cupped
41
00:01:52.320 --> 00:01:56.390
wrist position it's going to be very difficult to hit it past a certain
42
00:01:56.390 --> 00:01:57.240
distance.
43
00:01:57.240 --> 00:02:00.120
So I recommend doing that with some of your distance training to see what the
44
00:02:00.120 --> 00:02:00.680
upper limit
45
00:02:00.680 --> 00:02:02.520
is.
46
00:02:02.520 --> 00:02:07.160
So oftentimes when you do that we're going to feel like we swing a little bit
47
00:02:07.160 --> 00:02:08.480
more around
48
00:02:08.480 --> 00:02:13.880
or flat as opposed to a little bit more up and down.
49
00:02:13.880 --> 00:02:20.060
The main time where we're going to want the a little bit less open club face
50
00:02:20.060 --> 00:02:20.560
and a little
51
00:02:20.560 --> 00:02:24.420
bit steeper movement is when the ball is sitting down and we have lots of green
52
00:02:24.420 --> 00:02:25.000
to work with
53
00:02:25.000 --> 00:02:28.160
and we want to hit more of a chunk and run style shot.
54
00:02:28.160 --> 00:02:33.900
Oftentimes out of say a fried egg or when the ball is sitting in a down
55
00:02:33.900 --> 00:02:35.240
position it's
56
00:02:35.240 --> 00:02:39.550
risky to close the face too much but feeling like the wrist doesn't open quite
57
00:02:39.550 --> 00:02:40.080
as much
58
00:02:40.080 --> 00:02:43.750
and the swing is a little bit steeper is one of the ways to make sure that you
59
00:02:43.750 --> 00:02:44.480
don't blade
60
00:02:44.480 --> 00:02:47.120
that shot or chunk that shot.
61
00:02:47.120 --> 00:02:54.080
Okay, so let's draw a couple feedback lines, love doing that in the bunker.
62
00:02:54.080 --> 00:02:58.700
Okay, so now like I said these are a little bit riskier than the setup changes
63
00:02:58.700 --> 00:02:59.680
but sometimes
64
00:02:59.680 --> 00:03:04.450
these have really big impacts and feel very comfortable for golfers who have a
65
00:03:04.450 --> 00:03:05.520
high awareness
66
00:03:05.520 --> 00:03:08.760
of the swing in the hand position.
67
00:03:08.760 --> 00:03:13.940
So I'm going to feel like I'm going to go maximum extension and then keep that
68
00:03:13.940 --> 00:03:14.560
extension
69
00:03:14.560 --> 00:03:16.840
on the way through.
70
00:03:16.840 --> 00:03:23.400
So it might set up just a little bit more vertical, maximum extension.
71
00:03:23.400 --> 00:03:27.380
Keep that extension and you'll see I swung, I released really hard and that
72
00:03:27.380 --> 00:03:28.000
ball just
73
00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:34.680
pops straight up and for me it's hard to hit that more than about 10 yards.
74
00:03:34.680 --> 00:03:38.220
So I've got that purple noodle at about 15, the flag is pretty close to 10, I
75
00:03:38.220 --> 00:03:38.720
went like
76
00:03:38.720 --> 00:03:39.920
eight or nine in the air.
77
00:03:39.920 --> 00:03:44.480
So that can be one of the more powerful ways, especially out of kind of fluffy
78
00:03:44.480 --> 00:03:45.080
sand, that
79
00:03:45.080 --> 00:03:49.480
can be one of the more powerful ways to get a lot of height very quickly.
80
00:03:49.480 --> 00:03:55.950
So now I mentioned one of the times when we'll typically use the a little bit
81
00:03:55.950 --> 00:03:57.480
steeper option
82
00:03:57.480 --> 00:03:58.920
is when the ball is sitting down.
83
00:03:58.920 --> 00:04:02.080
So there I've got a little bit more of a fried egg.
84
00:04:02.080 --> 00:04:05.810
So in addition to maybe feeling a little bit more stacked I'm now going to
85
00:04:05.810 --> 00:04:06.720
swing the club
86
00:04:06.720 --> 00:04:12.300
a little bit more up and down and as it's coming down in order to keep the club
87
00:04:12.300 --> 00:04:13.040
working
88
00:04:13.040 --> 00:04:17.420
down into the sand I'm not going to let the wrist extend quite as much I'm
89
00:04:17.420 --> 00:04:18.280
going to keep
90
00:04:18.280 --> 00:04:24.130
it a little bit more neutral and the club is often just going to stop a little
91
00:04:24.130 --> 00:04:24.800
bit deeper
92
00:04:24.800 --> 00:04:25.800
in the sand.
93
00:04:25.800 --> 00:04:29.640
So it's going to go down you can see I got even more of a fried egg now from
94
00:04:29.640 --> 00:04:30.400
that little
95
00:04:30.400 --> 00:04:31.400
practice swing.
96
00:04:31.400 --> 00:04:32.400
So this will be good.
97
00:04:32.400 --> 00:04:37.580
So I'm going to lean a little bit more, swing the arm motion a little bit more
98
00:04:37.580 --> 00:04:38.080
vertical
99
00:04:38.080 --> 00:04:44.270
and then hold that angle of the wrist and you'll see that that's going to come
100
00:04:44.270 --> 00:04:44.680
out
101
00:04:44.680 --> 00:04:46.640
a little bit knuckly.
102
00:04:46.640 --> 00:04:52.310
It's not quite as extreme as the ball is really plugged the easiest way to get
103
00:04:52.310 --> 00:04:52.720
it out
104
00:04:52.720 --> 00:04:59.320
is to close the face but going steep with neutral face is a little bit easier
105
00:04:59.320 --> 00:05:00.240
like it's
106
00:05:00.240 --> 00:05:04.480
not going to be quite as dramatic as far as low and releasing it's still going
107
00:05:04.480 --> 00:05:05.240
to release
108
00:05:05.240 --> 00:05:10.500
some but oftentimes it's just really hard to get the ball to stop short when
109
00:05:10.500 --> 00:05:11.200
you have
110
00:05:11.200 --> 00:05:12.800
a fried egg like that.
111
00:05:12.800 --> 00:05:17.940
So it was the most common kind of arm manipulation similar to what we talked
112
00:05:17.940 --> 00:05:18.880
about with the finesse
113
00:05:18.880 --> 00:05:19.880
wedges.
114
00:05:19.880 --> 00:05:23.600
But I want to talk about two more concept things that you can do to influence
115
00:05:23.600 --> 00:05:24.680
trajectory.
116
00:05:24.680 --> 00:05:26.640
One is swing speed.
117
00:05:26.640 --> 00:05:33.170
So in the distance section we talk about kind of varying your tempo a little
118
00:05:33.170 --> 00:05:33.680
bit.
119
00:05:33.680 --> 00:05:38.470
One of the concepts here is the slower that I swing in general the lower that
120
00:05:38.470 --> 00:05:39.340
the launch
121
00:05:39.340 --> 00:05:43.540
is going to be and the faster that I swing the more I can get this to pop up
122
00:05:43.540 --> 00:05:44.200
high.
123
00:05:44.200 --> 00:05:47.610
So usually it's complimentary the faster I swing the more I can open the face
124
00:05:47.610 --> 00:05:48.000
and the
125
00:05:48.000 --> 00:05:52.840
slower I swing the more I'm going to want to play a face that's pretty square.
126
00:05:52.840 --> 00:05:56.990
So if you're a lower swing player kind of a newer golfer you might not want to
127
00:05:56.990 --> 00:05:57.400
open
128
00:05:57.400 --> 00:06:00.560
the club face dramatically like they might say on Instagram.
129
00:06:00.560 --> 00:06:08.760
So if I get this set up and I just do a really kind of longer but slower swing
130
00:06:08.760 --> 00:06:10.120
you'll see
131
00:06:10.120 --> 00:06:14.910
that that ball comes out really low compared to I already demonstrated the fast
132
00:06:14.910 --> 00:06:15.600
one where
133
00:06:15.600 --> 00:06:20.120
I released the club you saw that had a lot of speed and the ball pops up.
134
00:06:20.120 --> 00:06:25.200
So one of the ways especially on the longer shot that sounds counter intuitive
135
00:06:25.200 --> 00:06:25.800
but perhaps
136
00:06:25.800 --> 00:06:31.370
I take a little bit more of a longer club with less loft and I swing slow so
137
00:06:31.370 --> 00:06:31.960
the ball
138
00:06:31.960 --> 00:06:36.000
will come out lower and have a little bit more run.
139
00:06:36.000 --> 00:06:42.160
The other one the last the kind of the riskiest is changing contact location.
140
00:06:42.160 --> 00:06:47.710
So I tend to think that this is by far the riskiest option but trying to get
141
00:06:47.710 --> 00:06:48.480
contact
142
00:06:48.480 --> 00:06:51.480
a little bit closer to the golfer or a little bit cleaner.
143
00:06:51.480 --> 00:06:56.650
You really have to work on your low point control in order to do that and you
144
00:06:56.650 --> 00:06:57.440
can combo that
145
00:06:57.440 --> 00:06:59.080
with some of the other options.
146
00:06:59.080 --> 00:07:05.650
So potentially if I wanted to swing really fast really hard and get a little
147
00:07:05.650 --> 00:07:06.460
bit more
148
00:07:06.460 --> 00:07:10.200
distance than when I hit that 10 yard shot oh man this is scary.
149
00:07:10.200 --> 00:07:14.840
A little bit more distance I have to try to get contact really close to the
150
00:07:14.840 --> 00:07:16.560
golf ball.
151
00:07:16.560 --> 00:07:23.900
Too much golf ball this is why caution trying to get that contact right at the
152
00:07:23.900 --> 00:07:24.760
golf ball.
153
00:07:24.760 --> 00:07:28.080
So we'll try to do that again so now I'm trying to double my distance I'm
154
00:07:28.080 --> 00:07:28.360
trying to
155
00:07:28.360 --> 00:07:35.000
hit this all the way to the back of the green with a cupped face high release.
156
00:07:35.000 --> 00:07:39.730
So that was pretty close to as good as I got where that contacted just behind
157
00:07:39.730 --> 00:07:40.460
the golf
158
00:07:40.460 --> 00:07:44.060
ball but you saw the risk of the first one it wasn't a terrible shot or a
159
00:07:44.060 --> 00:07:45.000
terrible swing
160
00:07:45.000 --> 00:07:48.640
I should say but it was a terrible shot that likely went out of bounds.
161
00:07:48.640 --> 00:07:53.750
So I caution unless you're practicing your bunker shots at least a couple times
162
00:07:53.750 --> 00:07:54.160
a week
163
00:07:54.160 --> 00:07:58.160
I wouldn't vary the contact location instead I would take one of the other
164
00:07:58.160 --> 00:07:58.920
options.
165
00:07:58.920 --> 00:08:03.240
So you can either play with the setup changes or the swing and concept changes
166
00:08:03.240 --> 00:08:04.120
to influence
167
00:08:04.120 --> 00:08:08.800
your trajectory for your specific bunker shots.
