A simple drill for grooving your body-driven takeaway
By using the trail hand to support the lead wrist, you can help your lead wrist stay more neutral during the takeaway. This can give you a good feel of more of a body-driven swing. This drill is helpful for golfers who get the lead wrist too flexed, or too extended, in the takeaway.

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.320
And this drill, we're going to work on the one arm takeaway.
2
00:00:08.320 --> 00:00:10.160
So I'm going to take my normal grip.
3
00:00:10.160 --> 00:00:16.500
You can see that gets it about 24, 25, sometimes in the upper 20s, close to 30
4
00:00:16.500 --> 00:00:18.120
degrees of extension
5
00:00:18.120 --> 00:00:19.120
here.
6
00:00:19.120 --> 00:00:21.810
Now I'm going to take my trail hanger, my right hand off the club, and I'm
7
00:00:21.810 --> 00:00:22.560
going to slide
8
00:00:22.560 --> 00:00:27.280
it all the way up to my wrist so I'm supporting it kind of like this.
9
00:00:27.280 --> 00:00:31.790
So now what I'm going to do is I'm going to make a backswing move where I'm
10
00:00:31.790 --> 00:00:33.320
going to feel
11
00:00:33.320 --> 00:00:39.520
like I use my trail hand to help support my right hand staying in position.
12
00:00:39.520 --> 00:00:45.160
And as I look at the metric there, the biofeedback, I can see that it's staying
13
00:00:45.160 --> 00:00:46.400
about the same,
14
00:00:46.400 --> 00:00:49.560
then I can put my hands on just like this.
15
00:00:49.560 --> 00:00:54.800
The next step would be trying to do a 9 to 3 where I basically get into that
16
00:00:54.800 --> 00:00:55.360
position
17
00:00:55.360 --> 00:00:58.450
and try to hit some good shots that'll help me take the wrist out of the
18
00:00:58.450 --> 00:00:59.120
takeaway and
19
00:00:59.120 --> 00:01:00.640
use more of the big muscles in my body.
