Understanding how your path and face work together is key for decoding your pattern.

When the path gets in-to-out, the swing will require additional face closing to point at the target. When the path gets too out-to-in then it will require less. If the handle gets too far back, it causes the face to close and moves the low point backward. It often makes the path work more out-to-in as well. If the handle moves forward, it opens the face, moves the low point forward, and moves the path more in-to-out.

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:07.840
All right, in this concept video, we're going to look how swing path and club

2
00:00:07.840 --> 00:00:08.840
face are somewhat

3
00:00:08.840 --> 00:00:10.320
related.

4
00:00:10.320 --> 00:00:16.080
So I've got the giant clubface to make it a little bit easier to visualize this

5
00:00:16.080 --> 00:00:16.400
.

6
00:00:16.400 --> 00:00:21.330
So now we're going to revisit that look of the hula hoop and we're going to

7
00:00:21.330 --> 00:00:22.200
factor in

8
00:00:22.200 --> 00:00:24.000
that clubface control.

9
00:00:24.000 --> 00:00:31.640
So if the clubface stays square to the arc, it would look something like this.

10
00:00:31.640 --> 00:00:35.620
Well, the problem with that is that's going to only be pointing at the target

11
00:00:35.620 --> 00:00:36.160
when the

12
00:00:36.160 --> 00:00:38.440
club is straight up and down.

13
00:00:38.440 --> 00:00:43.310
If I then create some shaft lean, you can see how shaft lean causes the face to

14
00:00:43.310 --> 00:00:43.800
point a

15
00:00:43.800 --> 00:00:45.640
little bit further that way.

16
00:00:45.640 --> 00:00:50.510
So if my goal is to have 10 to 20 degrees of shaft lean and have the club in a

17
00:00:50.510 --> 00:00:51.200
position

18
00:00:51.200 --> 00:00:55.480
like this, I have to twist it in order to square it.

19
00:00:55.480 --> 00:00:58.520
Now I don't want to wait until the very last minute.

20
00:00:58.520 --> 00:01:01.430
I don't want to be coming into the golf ball like this and then try to twist it

21
00:01:01.430 --> 00:01:02.920
last minute

22
00:01:02.920 --> 00:01:08.440
because then I'm going to have too much timing or too much control issues.

23
00:01:08.440 --> 00:01:14.740
So instead, what I want to do is I want to do that motorcycle movement so that

24
00:01:14.740 --> 00:01:15.400
then as

25
00:01:15.400 --> 00:01:19.720
it comes down, it's already pointing because the bottom of the swing is a

26
00:01:19.720 --> 00:01:20.320
little bit ahead

27
00:01:20.320 --> 00:01:22.120
of the golf ball and I've twisted the club.

28
00:01:22.120 --> 00:01:25.700
It's going to look something like this where I have my shaft lean, but the club

29
00:01:25.700 --> 00:01:26.320
face is still

30
00:01:26.320 --> 00:01:30.670
pointing in the direction of the target and it's just going to have this

31
00:01:30.670 --> 00:01:31.760
gradual rotation

32
00:01:31.760 --> 00:01:33.920
as it comes through.

33
00:01:33.920 --> 00:01:38.970
Now I wanted to revisit this hula hoop to show because of the weighting of the

34
00:01:38.970 --> 00:01:39.640
club,

35
00:01:39.640 --> 00:01:44.560
because the clubhead is not in the exact same plane as the clubface, it's going

36
00:01:44.560 --> 00:01:45.200
to tend

37
00:01:45.200 --> 00:01:49.960
to have a little bit of clubface rotation as it moves down the plane.

38
00:01:49.960 --> 00:01:54.970
So the earlier I hit it in the arc, the more the clubface is going to be open

39
00:01:54.970 --> 00:01:55.960
and the later

40
00:01:55.960 --> 00:01:59.320
I hit it in the arc, the more the clubface is going to be closed.

41
00:01:59.320 --> 00:02:04.630
So a lot of golfers get the clubface square by hitting it really late in the

42
00:02:04.630 --> 00:02:05.280
arc.

43
00:02:05.280 --> 00:02:09.010
Problem is that with that is the later I hit it in the arc, the harder it is to

44
00:02:09.010 --> 00:02:09.400
get the

45
00:02:09.400 --> 00:02:11.360
low point forward.

46
00:02:11.360 --> 00:02:16.410
So hopefully this little visual helps you see, all right, that's not going to

47
00:02:16.410 --> 00:02:17.160
work because

48
00:02:17.160 --> 00:02:20.820
yes, I got the clubface pointing at the target, but the shaft is leaning

49
00:02:20.820 --> 00:02:21.480
backward and the

50
00:02:21.480 --> 00:02:24.440
club was coming up into the golf ball.

51
00:02:24.440 --> 00:02:28.120
Here's the visual I want you to have, I'm going to have the hand slightly

52
00:02:28.120 --> 00:02:28.800
forward, but

53
00:02:28.800 --> 00:02:30.320
the clubface turned.

54
00:02:30.320 --> 00:02:34.060
So that's going to deal off the club a little bit, which is going to help me

55
00:02:34.060 --> 00:02:34.840
compress the

56
00:02:34.840 --> 00:02:39.560
golf ball kind of like this, can help me hit golf ball first, all these things

57
00:02:39.560 --> 00:02:40.280
that really

58
00:02:40.280 --> 00:02:45.240
help with solid contact as well as clubface control.

59
00:02:45.240 --> 00:02:48.910
So if you're struggling with low point, double check the clubface and how it

60
00:02:48.910 --> 00:02:49.600
relates to

61
00:02:49.600 --> 00:02:53.910
the path, that may be the reason why you're struggling with contact or why you

62
00:02:53.910 --> 00:02:54.660
're struggling

63
00:02:54.660 --> 00:02:55.660
with direction.

64
00:02:55.660 --> 00:02:56.960
They usually go hand in hand.
