How to do it
Get in your good set up position and address a golf ball. From there, try to get into a good impact position using the body image that you have practiced with the MGR drill. Now, apply a force into the golf ball as you move through to follow through position. If you flip the club and use mostly your hands to transfer the speed, then the ball will slide up the face and not go very far at all. But, if you do this right, the ball will “stick” to the face and the ball will go flying 10-30 yards out and just left of the target.
What to focus on and why
This drill can help you with the timing and direction of the arm motions as well as having enough rotation and side bend. Also, it help you feel transfering energy from your body through your arms instead of just using your hands. With practice, you will feel how this movement blends into a feeling of bracing and you can use this feeling to help you practice 9 to 3 drills. I use this drill frequently with beginners and better players alike, so try it for yourself and work on a better impact position and timing.

1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:04.200
Okay, so this drill is the pushball drill and this is again to help you get
2
00:00:04.200 --> 00:00:06.640
that feeling of compressing the golf ball through impact
3
00:00:06.640 --> 00:00:13.480
so if you remember from the door jam or the yoga block drill as I like to call
4
00:00:13.480 --> 00:00:14.360
it, you're gonna
5
00:00:14.360 --> 00:00:19.180
Practice pushing into the golf ball by getting into a really strong impact
6
00:00:19.180 --> 00:00:20.440
position now
7
00:00:20.440 --> 00:00:23.800
I can't push this golf ball anywhere because there's a big object in the way
8
00:00:23.800 --> 00:00:24.580
well
9
00:00:24.960 --> 00:00:29.380
You can do this drill without the object in the way without the wall and you
10
00:00:29.380 --> 00:00:31.960
can actually apply a force and throw the ball
11
00:00:31.960 --> 00:00:37.330
now if you get into a good position and then you throw the ball the ball will
12
00:00:37.330 --> 00:00:39.200
actually kind of stick to the face and it'll
13
00:00:39.200 --> 00:00:41.200
Go flying if you
14
00:00:41.200 --> 00:00:45.780
Get there and you have your hands too far back if you're standing up if your
15
00:00:45.780 --> 00:00:46.560
arms too straight
16
00:00:46.560 --> 00:00:51.280
If any of the other things or the things that we're trying to not do right
17
00:00:51.280 --> 00:00:55.350
So if you do the things that we're trying to accomplish you'll be able to throw
18
00:00:55.350 --> 00:00:56.480
the ball if you don't
19
00:00:56.480 --> 00:01:00.600
What will happen is the ball will actually slide up the face and it won't go
20
00:01:00.600 --> 00:01:01.640
very far at all
21
00:01:01.640 --> 00:01:03.960
That's especially if you're flipping with your wrist
22
00:01:03.960 --> 00:01:08.320
Which we get into in the in more detail in the release section?
23
00:01:08.320 --> 00:01:13.080
So again, it's all the same principles that we used in the door jam drill. You
24
00:01:13.080 --> 00:01:13.600
're just gonna
25
00:01:13.600 --> 00:01:16.320
try to apply them as
26
00:01:16.320 --> 00:01:20.140
You extend your arms to go into the follow-through position. So I'll
27
00:01:20.140 --> 00:01:21.520
demonstrate a couple times
28
00:01:21.520 --> 00:01:27.090
And you can pay attention to the impact position we're trying to get to and how
29
00:01:27.090 --> 00:01:28.920
the arms extend and release through the ball
30
00:01:28.920 --> 00:01:40.320
We'll do it one more time
31
00:01:43.120 --> 00:01:45.120
So good impact position
32
00:01:45.120 --> 00:01:54.840
So that's the pushball drill which helps you feel kind of from impact through
33
00:01:54.840 --> 00:01:57.520
the follow-through
34
00:01:57.520 --> 00:02:03.490
The the important thing to recognize is it does depend it does there is a big
35
00:02:03.490 --> 00:02:05.600
difference depending on which club you're using
36
00:02:05.600 --> 00:02:09.120
So I'm using an eight iron here as you get better with it
37
00:02:09.120 --> 00:02:14.440
You can challenge yourself and you can go to a wedge a nine iron wedge gap
38
00:02:14.440 --> 00:02:17.680
wedge as you try the clubs that have a little bit more loft
39
00:02:17.680 --> 00:02:22.400
It becomes much more critical to really have those hands slightly ahead all the
40
00:02:22.400 --> 00:02:24.640
good impact position things that we've talked about
41
00:02:24.640 --> 00:02:27.860
It's just more challenging and really test and make sure that you know what you
42
00:02:27.860 --> 00:02:28.080
're doing
43
00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:31.550
So if you're doing it with a six iron and you're throwing pretty much every
44
00:02:31.550 --> 00:02:32.160
single one
45
00:02:32.160 --> 00:02:36.790
Challenge yourself and step it up to the next club. So that's the pushball
46
00:02:36.790 --> 00:02:37.200
drill
