00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.430
All right, golfers, let's do one bonus video where we're going to take a look
2
00:00:08.430 --> 00:00:09.000
at getting
3
00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:11.040
ready for a tournament.
4
00:00:11.040 --> 00:00:16.480
So oftentimes getting ready for a tournament is a stressful process.
5
00:00:16.480 --> 00:00:18.200
Golfers just think, oh, I'm not ready.
6
00:00:18.200 --> 00:00:21.880
Well, I developed this little checklist as just a quick way to see, hey, maybe
7
00:00:21.880 --> 00:00:22.320
you're
8
00:00:22.320 --> 00:00:24.160
as ready as you're going to be.
9
00:00:24.160 --> 00:00:28.680
If you can put a check marks in every one of these boxes, then you know what?
10
00:00:28.680 --> 00:00:29.680
You're ready.
11
00:00:29.680 --> 00:00:33.250
Just go out there, be prepared for the ups and downs of a normal tournament
12
00:00:33.250 --> 00:00:33.840
round and
13
00:00:33.840 --> 00:00:35.320
see what happens.
14
00:00:35.320 --> 00:00:40.490
So with the four core scoring skills, we're going to develop some basic
15
00:00:40.490 --> 00:00:41.640
objectives.
16
00:00:41.640 --> 00:00:45.400
With putting, I want to be really confident with my five footers.
17
00:00:45.400 --> 00:00:49.720
If I can do that, I've got a pretty good job of start controlling start line,
18
00:00:49.720 --> 00:00:50.120
and I want
19
00:00:50.120 --> 00:00:52.040
to be pretty good with my lag control.
20
00:00:52.040 --> 00:00:54.640
That takes care of speed and reading green.
21
00:00:54.640 --> 00:00:59.620
With my wedge play, I want to be comfortable making solid contact with my basic
22
00:00:59.620 --> 00:01:00.200
shot, and
23
00:01:00.200 --> 00:01:03.160
I want to make solid contact with my high shot.
24
00:01:03.160 --> 00:01:09.080
If I can do that, then I want to look at controlling distance for multiple
25
00:01:09.080 --> 00:01:10.400
distances.
26
00:01:10.400 --> 00:01:15.630
So basically, can I make solid contact with a couple different length back
27
00:01:15.630 --> 00:01:16.480
swings?
28
00:01:16.480 --> 00:01:21.000
That will help me with my overall distance control and giving me some pretty
29
00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:21.720
good touch
30
00:01:21.720 --> 00:01:27.230
around the greens so that I can get it inside that four to eight foot zone more
31
00:01:27.230 --> 00:01:28.080
often.
32
00:01:28.080 --> 00:01:31.560
With iron play, can I make solid contact?
33
00:01:31.560 --> 00:01:32.720
Can I control the direction?
34
00:01:32.720 --> 00:01:34.360
It doesn't have to be perfectly straight.
35
00:01:34.360 --> 00:01:38.280
I just want to make sure that it's somewhat predictable.
36
00:01:38.280 --> 00:01:42.240
And can I do that on both a full and a three quarter shot?
37
00:01:42.240 --> 00:01:45.500
If I can do that, that means that my sequencing and my rhythm is pretty good
38
00:01:45.500 --> 00:01:46.720
for that week,
39
00:01:46.720 --> 00:01:51.890
and that's going to help me with the distance control if I have less than full
40
00:01:51.890 --> 00:01:52.440
shots or
41
00:01:52.440 --> 00:01:54.280
if I'm in between clubs.
42
00:01:54.280 --> 00:01:58.170
Oftentimes, for whatever reason, I always felt like tournament play, I got more
43
00:01:58.170 --> 00:01:58.760
in between
44
00:01:58.760 --> 00:01:59.760
shots.
45
00:01:59.760 --> 00:02:02.720
So if I was really good with my three quarter, I was going to score pretty well
46
00:02:02.720 --> 00:02:02.960
.
47
00:02:02.960 --> 00:02:06.510
When it comes to driving, I want to know what my miss is going to be, and
48
00:02:06.510 --> 00:02:07.280
hopefully it's
49
00:02:07.280 --> 00:02:08.440
not a huge miss.
50
00:02:08.440 --> 00:02:13.610
So a predictable playable miss, either a little flare off to the right or a
51
00:02:13.610 --> 00:02:14.320
little kind of
52
00:02:14.320 --> 00:02:17.000
low left or the two most common ones.
53
00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.320
When you have two way misses or really big misses, it's hard to know where to
54
00:02:21.320 --> 00:02:21.640
aim.
55
00:02:21.640 --> 00:02:26.180
So I'll do some work on curve control, not trying to curve it both ways, but
56
00:02:26.180 --> 00:02:26.840
trying to
57
00:02:26.840 --> 00:02:32.840
do a little curve, a medium curve, a big curve with my dominant shot pattern.
58
00:02:32.840 --> 00:02:38.330
Also I always felt that my two little tests to see if my rhythm was good or if
59
00:02:38.330 --> 00:02:39.440
my sequencing
60
00:02:39.440 --> 00:02:44.650
was good, was having the fairway finder, which is when I would try to take off
61
00:02:44.650 --> 00:02:46.080
maybe 30 yards
62
00:02:46.080 --> 00:02:50.640
or so and just kind of get it in play or when I swing hard.
63
00:02:50.640 --> 00:02:56.810
If when I swing hard, I had the same ball flight or the same shape that usually
64
00:02:56.810 --> 00:02:57.280
told
65
00:02:57.280 --> 00:03:00.650
me that my swing was in a pretty good shape and I was going to be able to
66
00:03:00.650 --> 00:03:01.360
handle some
67
00:03:01.360 --> 00:03:03.200
extra adrenaline.
68
00:03:03.200 --> 00:03:08.600
When I was hitting good in practice and in rhythm, but then if I swung hard, I
69
00:03:08.600 --> 00:03:08.960
had a
70
00:03:08.960 --> 00:03:13.280
much bigger miss, that's when I was a little bit less confident going into a
71
00:03:13.280 --> 00:03:13.520
tournament
72
00:03:13.520 --> 00:03:17.250
situation because I was naturally going to have a little bit more adrenaline or
73
00:03:17.250 --> 00:03:17.680
stress
74
00:03:17.680 --> 00:03:20.240
in that tournament environment.
75
00:03:20.240 --> 00:03:25.360
So predictable miss, curve control, can I swing hard?
76
00:03:25.360 --> 00:03:27.720
Those would be some of the big ones there.
77
00:03:27.720 --> 00:03:32.890
So if you have this all in play, look at the course, kind of take it, figure
78
00:03:32.890 --> 00:03:34.240
out what distances
79
00:03:34.240 --> 00:03:37.970
you're going to hit a lot with your irons, especially what are the par threes,
80
00:03:37.970 --> 00:03:38.360
what are
81
00:03:38.360 --> 00:03:42.360
my T shots, come up with a plan and that's really the best you can do.
82
00:03:42.360 --> 00:03:46.680
And then just have a good night's sleep, good breakfast and hopefully all the
83
00:03:46.680 --> 00:03:47.120
you get the
84
00:03:47.120 --> 00:03:49.120
lucky bounces that day.
85
00:03:49.120 --> 00:03:52.260
But I find that this makes the stress of getting ready for a tournament a
86
00:03:52.260 --> 00:03:53.520
little bit more manageable
87
00:03:53.520 --> 00:03:59.630
and it ties in the four key scoring skills so that you understand how to apply
88
00:03:59.630 --> 00:04:01.280
those benchmarks
89
00:04:01.280 --> 00:04:04.120
and this whole philosophy to your tournament game.
90
00:04:04.120 --> 00:04:07.910
So if you're going to be your own coach, you have to be able to monitor your
91
00:04:07.910 --> 00:04:08.640
process and
92
00:04:08.640 --> 00:04:10.920
plan how you're going to use your time.
93
00:04:10.920 --> 00:04:14.760
That's one of the big steps to monitoring your own game.
94
00:04:14.760 --> 00:04:19.080
Using the Golf Smart Academy system, I'm confident that you are your own best
95
00:04:19.080 --> 00:04:19.880
golf coach and
96
00:04:19.880 --> 00:04:21.920
smart golfers are happy golfers.
1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.430
All right, golfers, let's do one bonus video where we're going to take a look
2
00:00:08.430 --> 00:00:09.000
at getting
3
00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:11.040
ready for a tournament.
4
00:00:11.040 --> 00:00:16.480
So oftentimes getting ready for a tournament is a stressful process.
5
00:00:16.480 --> 00:00:18.200
Golfers just think, oh, I'm not ready.
6
00:00:18.200 --> 00:00:21.880
Well, I developed this little checklist as just a quick way to see, hey, maybe
7
00:00:21.880 --> 00:00:22.320
you're
8
00:00:22.320 --> 00:00:24.160
as ready as you're going to be.
9
00:00:24.160 --> 00:00:28.680
If you can put a check marks in every one of these boxes, then you know what?
10
00:00:28.680 --> 00:00:29.680
You're ready.
11
00:00:29.680 --> 00:00:33.250
Just go out there, be prepared for the ups and downs of a normal tournament
12
00:00:33.250 --> 00:00:33.840
round and
13
00:00:33.840 --> 00:00:35.320
see what happens.
14
00:00:35.320 --> 00:00:40.490
So with the four core scoring skills, we're going to develop some basic
15
00:00:40.490 --> 00:00:41.640
objectives.
16
00:00:41.640 --> 00:00:45.400
With putting, I want to be really confident with my five footers.
17
00:00:45.400 --> 00:00:49.720
If I can do that, I've got a pretty good job of start controlling start line,
18
00:00:49.720 --> 00:00:50.120
and I want
19
00:00:50.120 --> 00:00:52.040
to be pretty good with my lag control.
20
00:00:52.040 --> 00:00:54.640
That takes care of speed and reading green.
21
00:00:54.640 --> 00:00:59.620
With my wedge play, I want to be comfortable making solid contact with my basic
22
00:00:59.620 --> 00:01:00.200
shot, and
23
00:01:00.200 --> 00:01:03.160
I want to make solid contact with my high shot.
24
00:01:03.160 --> 00:01:09.080
If I can do that, then I want to look at controlling distance for multiple
25
00:01:09.080 --> 00:01:10.400
distances.
26
00:01:10.400 --> 00:01:15.630
So basically, can I make solid contact with a couple different length back
27
00:01:15.630 --> 00:01:16.480
swings?
28
00:01:16.480 --> 00:01:21.000
That will help me with my overall distance control and giving me some pretty
29
00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:21.720
good touch
30
00:01:21.720 --> 00:01:27.230
around the greens so that I can get it inside that four to eight foot zone more
31
00:01:27.230 --> 00:01:28.080
often.
32
00:01:28.080 --> 00:01:31.560
With iron play, can I make solid contact?
33
00:01:31.560 --> 00:01:32.720
Can I control the direction?
34
00:01:32.720 --> 00:01:34.360
It doesn't have to be perfectly straight.
35
00:01:34.360 --> 00:01:38.280
I just want to make sure that it's somewhat predictable.
36
00:01:38.280 --> 00:01:42.240
And can I do that on both a full and a three quarter shot?
37
00:01:42.240 --> 00:01:45.500
If I can do that, that means that my sequencing and my rhythm is pretty good
38
00:01:45.500 --> 00:01:46.720
for that week,
39
00:01:46.720 --> 00:01:51.890
and that's going to help me with the distance control if I have less than full
40
00:01:51.890 --> 00:01:52.440
shots or
41
00:01:52.440 --> 00:01:54.280
if I'm in between clubs.
42
00:01:54.280 --> 00:01:58.170
Oftentimes, for whatever reason, I always felt like tournament play, I got more
43
00:01:58.170 --> 00:01:58.760
in between
44
00:01:58.760 --> 00:01:59.760
shots.
45
00:01:59.760 --> 00:02:02.720
So if I was really good with my three quarter, I was going to score pretty well
46
00:02:02.720 --> 00:02:02.960
.
47
00:02:02.960 --> 00:02:06.510
When it comes to driving, I want to know what my miss is going to be, and
48
00:02:06.510 --> 00:02:07.280
hopefully it's
49
00:02:07.280 --> 00:02:08.440
not a huge miss.
50
00:02:08.440 --> 00:02:13.610
So a predictable playable miss, either a little flare off to the right or a
51
00:02:13.610 --> 00:02:14.320
little kind of
52
00:02:14.320 --> 00:02:17.000
low left or the two most common ones.
53
00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.320
When you have two way misses or really big misses, it's hard to know where to
54
00:02:21.320 --> 00:02:21.640
aim.
55
00:02:21.640 --> 00:02:26.180
So I'll do some work on curve control, not trying to curve it both ways, but
56
00:02:26.180 --> 00:02:26.840
trying to
57
00:02:26.840 --> 00:02:32.840
do a little curve, a medium curve, a big curve with my dominant shot pattern.
58
00:02:32.840 --> 00:02:38.330
Also I always felt that my two little tests to see if my rhythm was good or if
59
00:02:38.330 --> 00:02:39.440
my sequencing
60
00:02:39.440 --> 00:02:44.650
was good, was having the fairway finder, which is when I would try to take off
61
00:02:44.650 --> 00:02:46.080
maybe 30 yards
62
00:02:46.080 --> 00:02:50.640
or so and just kind of get it in play or when I swing hard.
63
00:02:50.640 --> 00:02:56.810
If when I swing hard, I had the same ball flight or the same shape that usually
64
00:02:56.810 --> 00:02:57.280
told
65
00:02:57.280 --> 00:03:00.650
me that my swing was in a pretty good shape and I was going to be able to
66
00:03:00.650 --> 00:03:01.360
handle some
67
00:03:01.360 --> 00:03:03.200
extra adrenaline.
68
00:03:03.200 --> 00:03:08.600
When I was hitting good in practice and in rhythm, but then if I swung hard, I
69
00:03:08.600 --> 00:03:08.960
had a
70
00:03:08.960 --> 00:03:13.280
much bigger miss, that's when I was a little bit less confident going into a
71
00:03:13.280 --> 00:03:13.520
tournament
72
00:03:13.520 --> 00:03:17.250
situation because I was naturally going to have a little bit more adrenaline or
73
00:03:17.250 --> 00:03:17.680
stress
74
00:03:17.680 --> 00:03:20.240
in that tournament environment.
75
00:03:20.240 --> 00:03:25.360
So predictable miss, curve control, can I swing hard?
76
00:03:25.360 --> 00:03:27.720
Those would be some of the big ones there.
77
00:03:27.720 --> 00:03:32.890
So if you have this all in play, look at the course, kind of take it, figure
78
00:03:32.890 --> 00:03:34.240
out what distances
79
00:03:34.240 --> 00:03:37.970
you're going to hit a lot with your irons, especially what are the par threes,
80
00:03:37.970 --> 00:03:38.360
what are
81
00:03:38.360 --> 00:03:42.360
my T shots, come up with a plan and that's really the best you can do.
82
00:03:42.360 --> 00:03:46.680
And then just have a good night's sleep, good breakfast and hopefully all the
83
00:03:46.680 --> 00:03:47.120
you get the
84
00:03:47.120 --> 00:03:49.120
lucky bounces that day.
85
00:03:49.120 --> 00:03:52.260
But I find that this makes the stress of getting ready for a tournament a
86
00:03:52.260 --> 00:03:53.520
little bit more manageable
87
00:03:53.520 --> 00:03:59.630
and it ties in the four key scoring skills so that you understand how to apply
88
00:03:59.630 --> 00:04:01.280
those benchmarks
89
00:04:01.280 --> 00:04:04.120
and this whole philosophy to your tournament game.
90
00:04:04.120 --> 00:04:07.910
So if you're going to be your own coach, you have to be able to monitor your
91
00:04:07.910 --> 00:04:08.640
process and
92
00:04:08.640 --> 00:04:10.920
plan how you're going to use your time.
93
00:04:10.920 --> 00:04:14.760
That's one of the big steps to monitoring your own game.
94
00:04:14.760 --> 00:04:19.080
Using the Golf Smart Academy system, I'm confident that you are your own best
95
00:04:19.080 --> 00:04:19.880
golf coach and
96
00:04:19.880 --> 00:04:21.920
smart golfers are happy golfers.
