00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:06.870
This drill is towel pulls. So, towel pulls is essentially using a towel-like
2
00:00:06.870 --> 00:00:07.000
object.
3
00:00:07.000 --> 00:00:12.370
So, in this case, I've got my sweatshirt, but basically a cloth object that'll
4
00:00:12.370 --> 00:00:17.000
allow you to experience how you're actually putting force into this club.
5
00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:20.760
So, for this drill, we're not actually going to use a club. This is a great
6
00:00:20.760 --> 00:00:22.000
drill that you can do at home.
7
00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:25.000
But you can also do it on the range to kind of get a sense of what's going on.
8
00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:28.760
What I'll have my students do frequently is I'll have them go to the top of the
9
00:00:28.760 --> 00:00:29.000
swing
10
00:00:29.000 --> 00:00:32.710
and I'll take the club and take it out of their hands and put a towel in their
11
00:00:32.710 --> 00:00:33.000
hands.
12
00:00:33.000 --> 00:00:37.000
So, essentially, you're going to go up to the top of the swing just like so.
13
00:00:37.000 --> 00:00:41.000
If you don't have somebody who can actually hold the towel for you at the top,
14
00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:47.010
then you can always take a band and attach it into a door, kind of, so the door
15
00:00:47.010 --> 00:00:48.000
would be right here.
16
00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:52.000
The band would be pulling over my shoulder and I'd be grabbing it like that.
17
00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:56.000
So, what I'll do is I will take them up to the top of the swing and I will grab
18
00:00:56.000 --> 00:00:58.000
onto the one end of the towel
19
00:00:58.000 --> 00:01:00.690
and I'll say, "Okay, now, I want you to imagine you're going to start your down
20
00:01:00.690 --> 00:01:01.000
swing."
21
00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:05.000
And I will basically feel for how they're going to pull.
22
00:01:05.000 --> 00:01:10.420
Are they going to pull along the towel, which would basically be if I'm
23
00:01:10.420 --> 00:01:12.000
starting with my body,
24
00:01:12.000 --> 00:01:15.760
what I'll feel is it'll feel like they're trying to pull the towel out of my
25
00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:16.000
hands,
26
00:01:16.000 --> 00:01:20.150
or are they going to pull mostly with their arms and I'm going to feel that
27
00:01:20.150 --> 00:01:21.000
they're pulling straight down
28
00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:23.000
towards the golf ball just like so.
29
00:01:23.000 --> 00:01:27.630
So, a few of my students have gravitated towards this feeling of wrapping
30
00:01:27.630 --> 00:01:29.000
yourself in the towel.
31
00:01:29.000 --> 00:01:33.000
So, if you get up to the top of the swing and somebody is holding that towel,
32
00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:37.550
I'm going to basically wrap myself in the towel before those arms would
33
00:01:37.550 --> 00:01:40.000
actually release and extend.
34
00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:44.000
There's two major components to this. One is the direction that I'm pulling,
35
00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:47.000
and two is the rate and timing that I'm pulling it.
36
00:01:47.000 --> 00:01:51.250
So, for the first piece of the direction, the more that I'm kind of wrapping
37
00:01:51.250 --> 00:01:52.000
myself in the towel,
38
00:01:52.000 --> 00:01:56.000
the more that I'm going to be working in more of a rotational fashion,
39
00:01:56.000 --> 00:01:59.000
the more that I'm pulling kind of straight down with my arms,
40
00:01:59.000 --> 00:02:02.000
the more I'm using more of my lats and my shoulders.
41
00:02:02.000 --> 00:02:05.000
That part's easy. The timing is the second piece.
42
00:02:05.000 --> 00:02:09.000
So, the timing is going to be, if I'm wrapping myself in the towel,
43
00:02:09.000 --> 00:02:13.000
I basically want to have a real gradual buildup to it.
44
00:02:13.000 --> 00:02:17.000
So, if you watch me actually take a swing with this,
45
00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.000
you'll see that because it's a super, super soft shaft,
46
00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:27.000
I'm essentially going to have to build it up even slower than I would normally.
47
00:02:27.000 --> 00:02:32.490
But, typically what happens is if they're pulling more straight down towards
48
00:02:32.490 --> 00:02:33.000
the golf ball,
49
00:02:33.000 --> 00:02:40.000
kind of like so, it will be more of a fast impulse and then kind of cruise
50
00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:41.000
through impact
51
00:02:41.000 --> 00:02:47.050
as opposed to a build all the way through so that the club really feels like I
52
00:02:47.050 --> 00:02:50.000
'm accelerating it through that release.
53
00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:54.690
So, you can use a towel or a rubber band attached to a door or having a friend
54
00:02:54.690 --> 00:02:55.000
hold it
55
00:02:55.000 --> 00:02:59.000
to kind of get a big picture idea as far as how you are creating speed
56
00:02:59.000 --> 00:03:01.000
and how you're going to be applying force to that club.
57
00:03:01.000 --> 00:03:05.000
The more that we can get in this kind of rotational wrap myself
58
00:03:05.000 --> 00:03:09.000
along the swing plane or wrap myself in this towel,
59
00:03:09.000 --> 00:03:13.000
that feeling is going to lead towards more consistent contact,
60
00:03:13.000 --> 00:03:16.000
better tempo, more gears, those kind of things.
61
00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:19.000
The one caveat is with the wedges and the short game.
62
00:03:19.000 --> 00:03:23.000
If you're looking at the finesse wedges or the distance wedges,
63
00:03:23.000 --> 00:03:27.000
it's going to feel a lot more like that pulling straight down
64
00:03:27.000 --> 00:03:31.000
than it is like wrapping myself in the towel or in the blanket.
1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:06.870
This drill is towel pulls. So, towel pulls is essentially using a towel-like
2
00:00:06.870 --> 00:00:07.000
object.
3
00:00:07.000 --> 00:00:12.370
So, in this case, I've got my sweatshirt, but basically a cloth object that'll
4
00:00:12.370 --> 00:00:17.000
allow you to experience how you're actually putting force into this club.
5
00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:20.760
So, for this drill, we're not actually going to use a club. This is a great
6
00:00:20.760 --> 00:00:22.000
drill that you can do at home.
7
00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:25.000
But you can also do it on the range to kind of get a sense of what's going on.
8
00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:28.760
What I'll have my students do frequently is I'll have them go to the top of the
9
00:00:28.760 --> 00:00:29.000
swing
10
00:00:29.000 --> 00:00:32.710
and I'll take the club and take it out of their hands and put a towel in their
11
00:00:32.710 --> 00:00:33.000
hands.
12
00:00:33.000 --> 00:00:37.000
So, essentially, you're going to go up to the top of the swing just like so.
13
00:00:37.000 --> 00:00:41.000
If you don't have somebody who can actually hold the towel for you at the top,
14
00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:47.010
then you can always take a band and attach it into a door, kind of, so the door
15
00:00:47.010 --> 00:00:48.000
would be right here.
16
00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:52.000
The band would be pulling over my shoulder and I'd be grabbing it like that.
17
00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:56.000
So, what I'll do is I will take them up to the top of the swing and I will grab
18
00:00:56.000 --> 00:00:58.000
onto the one end of the towel
19
00:00:58.000 --> 00:01:00.690
and I'll say, "Okay, now, I want you to imagine you're going to start your down
20
00:01:00.690 --> 00:01:01.000
swing."
21
00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:05.000
And I will basically feel for how they're going to pull.
22
00:01:05.000 --> 00:01:10.420
Are they going to pull along the towel, which would basically be if I'm
23
00:01:10.420 --> 00:01:12.000
starting with my body,
24
00:01:12.000 --> 00:01:15.760
what I'll feel is it'll feel like they're trying to pull the towel out of my
25
00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:16.000
hands,
26
00:01:16.000 --> 00:01:20.150
or are they going to pull mostly with their arms and I'm going to feel that
27
00:01:20.150 --> 00:01:21.000
they're pulling straight down
28
00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:23.000
towards the golf ball just like so.
29
00:01:23.000 --> 00:01:27.630
So, a few of my students have gravitated towards this feeling of wrapping
30
00:01:27.630 --> 00:01:29.000
yourself in the towel.
31
00:01:29.000 --> 00:01:33.000
So, if you get up to the top of the swing and somebody is holding that towel,
32
00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:37.550
I'm going to basically wrap myself in the towel before those arms would
33
00:01:37.550 --> 00:01:40.000
actually release and extend.
34
00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:44.000
There's two major components to this. One is the direction that I'm pulling,
35
00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:47.000
and two is the rate and timing that I'm pulling it.
36
00:01:47.000 --> 00:01:51.250
So, for the first piece of the direction, the more that I'm kind of wrapping
37
00:01:51.250 --> 00:01:52.000

43
00:02:09.000 --> 00:02:13.000

kind of like so, it will be more of a fast impulse and then kind of cruise
50
00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:41.000

51
00:02:41.000 --> 00:02:47.050
as opposed to a build all the way through so that the club really feels like I

And I will basically feel for how they're going to pull.

Are they going to pull along the towel, which would basically be if I'm

00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:37.550
I'm going to basically wrap myself in the towel before those arms would
33
00:01:37.550 --> 00:01:40.000
actually release and extend.
34
00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:44.000
There's two major components to this. One is the direction that I'm pulling,
35
00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:47.000
and two is the rate and timing that I'm pulling it.
36
00:01:47.000 --> 00:01:51.250
So, for the first piece of the direction, the more that I'm kind of wrapping
37
00:01:51.250 --> 00:01:52.000
myself in the towel,
38
00:01:52.000 --> 00:01:56.000
the more that I'm going to be working in more of a rotational fashion,
39
00:01:56.000 --> 00:01:59.000
the more that I'm pulling kind of straight down with my arms,
40
00:01:59.000 --> 00:02:02.000
the more I'm using more of my lats and my shoulders.
41
00:02:02.000 --> 00:02:05.000
That part's easy. The timing is the second piece.
42
00:02:05.000 --> 00:02:09.000
So, the timing is going to be, if I'm wrapping myself in the towel,
43
00:02:09.000 --> 00:02:13.000
I basically want to have a real gradual buildup to it.
44
00:02:13.000 --> 00:02:17.000
So, if you watch me actually take a swing with this,
45
00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.000
you'll see that because it's a super, super soft shaft,
46
00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:27.000
I'm essentially going to have to build it up even slower than I would normally.
47
00:02:27.000 --> 00:02:32.490
But, typically what happens is if they're pulling more straight down towards
48
00:02:32.490 --> 00:02:33.000
the golf ball,
49
00:02:33.000 --> 00:02:40.000
kind of like so, it will be more of a fast impulse and then kind of cruise
50
00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:41.000
through impact
51
00:02:41.000 --> 00:02:47.050
as opposed to a build all the way through so that the club really feels like I
52
00:02:47.050 --> 00:02:50.000
'm accelerating it through that release.
53
00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:54.690
So, you can use a towel or a rubber band attached to a door or having a friend
54
00:02:54.690 --> 00:02:55.000
hold it
55
00:02:55.000 --> 00:02:59.000
to kind of get a big picture idea as far as how you are creating speed
56
00:02:59.000 --> 00:03:01.000
and how you're going to be applying force to that club.
57
00:03:01.000 --> 00:03:05.000
The more that we can get in this kind of rotational wrap myself
58
00:03:05.000 --> 00:03:09.000
along the swing plane or wrap myself in this towel,
59
00:03:09.000 --> 00:03:13.000
that feeling is going to lead towards more consistent contact,
60
00:03:13.000 --> 00:03:16.000
better tempo, more gears, those kind of things.
61
00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:19.000
The one caveat is with the wedges and the short game.
62
00:03:19.000 --> 00:03:23.000
If you're looking at the finesse wedges or the distance wedges,
63
00:03:23.000 --> 00:03:27.000
it's going to feel a lot more like that pulling straight down
64
00:03:27.000 --> 00:03:31.000
than it is like wrapping myself in the towel or in the blanket.
1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:06.870
This drill is towel pulls. So, towel pulls is essentially using a towel-like
2
00:00:06.870 --> 00:00:07.000
object.
3
00:00:07.000 --> 00:00:12.370
So, in this case, I've got my sweatshirt, but basically a cloth object that'll
4
00:00:12.370 --> 00:00:17.000
allow you to experience how you're actually putting force into this club.
5
00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:20.760
So, for this drill, we're not actually going to use a club. This is a great
6
00:00:20.760 --> 00:00:22.000
drill that you can do at home.
7
00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:25.000
But you can also do it on the range to kind of get a sense of what's going on.
8
00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:28.760
What I'll have my students do frequently is I'll have them go to the top of the
9
00:00:28.760 --> 00:00:29.000
swing
10
00:00:29.000 --> 00:00:32.710
and I'll take the club and take it out of their hands and put a towel in their
11
00:00:32.710 --> 00:00:33.000
hands.
12
00:00:33.000 --> 00:00:37.000
So, essentially, you're going to go up to the top of the swing just like so.
13
00:00:37.000 --> 00:00:41.000
If you don't have somebody who can actually hold the towel for you at the top,
14
00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:47.010
then you can always take a band and attach it into a door, kind of, so the door
15
00:00:47.010 --> 00:00:48.000
would be right here.
16
00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:52.000
The band would be pulling over my shoulder and I'd be grabbing it like that.
17
00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:56.000
So, what I'll do is I will take them up to the top of the swing and I will grab
18
00:00:56.000 --> 00:00:58.000
onto the one end of the towel
19
00:00:58.000 --> 00:01:00.690
and I'll say, "Okay, now, I want you to imagine you're going to start your down
20
00:01:00.690 --> 00:01:01.000
swing."
21
00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:05.000
And I will basically feel for how they're going to pull.
22
00:01:05.000 --> 00:01:10.420
Are they going to pull along the towel, which would basically be if I'm
23
00:01:10.420 --> 00:01:12.000
starting with my body,
24
00:01:12.000 --> 00:01:15.760
what I'll feel is it'll feel like they're trying to pull the towel out of my
25
00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:16.000
hands,
26
00:01:16.000 --> 00:01:20.150
or are they going to pull mostly with their arms and I'm going to feel that
27
00:01:20.150 --> 00:01:21.000
they're pulling straight down
28
00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:23.000
towards the golf ball just like so.
29
00:01:23.000 --> 00:01:27.630
So, a few of my students have gravitated towards this feeling of wrapping
30
00:01:27.630 --> 00:01:29.000
yourself in the towel.
31
00:01:29.000 --> 00:01:33.000
So, if you get up to the top of the swing and somebody is holding that towel,
32
00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:37.550
I'm going to basically wrap myself in the towel before those arms would
33
00:01:37.550 --> 00:01:40.000
actually release and extend.
34
00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:44.000
There's two major components to this. One is the direction that I'm pulling,
35
00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:47.000
and two is the rate and timing that I'm pulling it.
36
00:01:47.000 --> 00:01:51.250
So, for the first piece of the direction, the more that I'm kind of wrapping
37
00:01:51.250 --> 00:01:52.000
myself in the towel,
38
00:01:52.000 --> 00:01:56.000
the more that I'm going to be working in more of a rotational fashion,
39
00:01:56.000 --> 00:01:59.000
the more that I'm pulling kind of straight down with my arms,
40
00:01:59.000 --> 00:02:02.000
the more I'm using more of my lats and my shoulders.
41
00:02:02.000 --> 00:02:05.000
That part's easy. The timing is the second piece.
42
00:02:05.000 --> 00:02:09.000
So, the timing is going to be, if I'm wrapping myself in the towel,
43
00:02:09.000 --> 00:02:13.000
I basically want to have a real gradual buildup to it.
44
00:02:13.000 --> 00:02:17.000
So, if you watch me actually take a swing with this,
45
00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.000
you'll see that because it's a super, super soft shaft,
46
00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:27.000
I'm essentially going to have to build it up even slower than I would normally.
47
00:02:27.000 --> 00:02:32.490
But, typically what happens is if they're pulling more straight down towards
48
00:02:32.490 --> 00:02:33.000
the golf ball,
49
00:02:33.000 --> 00:02:40.000
kind of like so, it will be more of a fast impulse and then kind of cruise
50
00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:41.000
through impact
51
00:02:41.000 --> 00:02:47.050
as opposed to a build all the way through so that the club really feels like I
52
00:02:47.050 --> 00:02:50.000
'm accelerating it through that release.
53
00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:54.690
So, you can use a towel or a rubber band attached to a door or having a friend
54
00:02:54.690 --> 00:02:55.000
hold it
55
00:02:55.000 --> 00:02:59.000
to kind of get a big picture idea as far as how you are creating speed
56
00:02:59.000 --> 00:03:01.000
and how you're going to be applying force to that club.
57
00:03:01.000 --> 00:03:05.000
The more that we can get in this kind of rotational wrap myself
58
00:03:05.000 --> 00:03:09.000
along the swing plane or wrap myself in this towel,
59
00:03:09.000 --> 00:03:13.000
that feeling is going to lead towards more consistent contact,
60
00:03:13.000 --> 00:03:16.000
better tempo, more gears, those kind of things.

it's going to feel a lot more like that pulling straight down
64
00:03:27.000 --> 00:03:31.000
than it is like wrapping myself in the towel or in the blanket.
