See The Putt As Straight
Find a straight 15 foot putt and put a second golf ball directly in line with your ball and the center of the hole. Have someone stand behind the second golf ball and set up normally. Tell your buddy to move as soon as you think you are lined up in such a way that if you hit a putt, it would hit the golf ball. Look, as he steps out of the way, to see if the golf ball would hit the center of the hole if the second golf ball were moved. If the ball would miss the center of the hole, then adjust your head position until you see it hit the center of the whole. This is the position that you see straight from and should strive to achieve when putting.

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.160
So, now that you know which eye dominance you are, let's figure out your
2
00:00:05.160 --> 00:00:06.400
specific needs.
3
00:00:06.400 --> 00:00:11.200
Where do we need to have your head so that you can see the putt as straight?
4
00:00:11.200 --> 00:00:15.610
I got this from an instructor who spent a lot of time with snooker players and
5
00:00:15.610 --> 00:00:15.760
they
6
00:00:15.760 --> 00:00:20.170
focus a lot on getting their eyes in the right position to be able to see where
7
00:00:20.170 --> 00:00:20.480
straight
8
00:00:20.480 --> 00:00:21.480
is.
9
00:00:21.480 --> 00:00:25.210
Because if you set up to a straight line and you don't see it as straight, your
10
00:00:25.210 --> 00:00:25.640
brain is
11
00:00:25.640 --> 00:00:28.200
not going to let you make a confident stroke.
12
00:00:28.200 --> 00:00:33.700
So, I've got a simple little setup here that you can use, again you're going to
13
00:00:33.700 --> 00:00:33.960
need to
14
00:00:33.960 --> 00:00:38.520
find a golf buddy or your pro and you can go through the setup with them.
15
00:00:38.520 --> 00:00:42.380
But this is one of the best ways I've figured out for fine-tuning your visual
16
00:00:42.380 --> 00:00:43.240
alignment.
17
00:00:43.240 --> 00:00:47.600
So, I've got two golf balls and a golf hole.
18
00:00:47.600 --> 00:00:52.400
Ideally, this is about 15 to 20 feet somewhere in there, so kind of a medium
19
00:00:52.400 --> 00:00:53.460
length putt.
20
00:00:53.460 --> 00:00:57.870
You want the middle ball to be lasered so that it's right in line with the
21
00:00:57.870 --> 00:00:58.140
center of the
22
00:00:58.140 --> 00:01:02.620
hole compared to the first ball, okay, and it should be about halfway in
23
00:01:02.620 --> 00:01:03.460
between.
24
00:01:03.460 --> 00:01:09.410
What you'll do is you will have your friend or your buddy or your golf bro
25
00:01:09.410 --> 00:01:10.500
stand behind
26
00:01:10.500 --> 00:01:13.930
the intermediate ball so that you can't see the golf ball or so that you can't
27
00:01:13.930 --> 00:01:14.300
see the
28
00:01:14.300 --> 00:01:16.100
golf hole, okay.
29
00:01:16.100 --> 00:01:21.970
So you're going to get set up to this first ball and aim it at that second ball
30
00:01:21.970 --> 00:01:22.540
while
31
00:01:22.540 --> 00:01:24.980
your buddy is standing in the way.
32
00:01:24.980 --> 00:01:28.080
Once you believe that if you hit it, it would hit the center dimple right in
33
00:01:28.080 --> 00:01:28.580
the middle
34
00:01:28.580 --> 00:01:32.390
of that golf ball, you're going to have this person move and step out of the
35
00:01:32.390 --> 00:01:33.100
way and then
36
00:01:33.100 --> 00:01:37.510
you're just going to track with your eyes to see if that first golf ball were
37
00:01:37.510 --> 00:01:37.900
to hit the
38
00:01:37.900 --> 00:01:42.930
second golf ball, if it continued along that line, would it hit the center of
39
00:01:42.930 --> 00:01:43.880
the hole?
40
00:01:43.880 --> 00:01:49.830
Most of you are going to say, maybe, this takes a little bit of practice, but
41
00:01:49.830 --> 00:01:50.380
if you
42
00:01:50.380 --> 00:01:54.110
look at it and it looks like it would hit either the edge of the hole or even
43
00:01:54.110 --> 00:01:54.580
miss the
44
00:01:54.580 --> 00:01:59.510
hole, when I first did it, for me, my golf ball was going to miss the hole on
45
00:01:59.510 --> 00:02:00.180
the left
46
00:02:00.180 --> 00:02:01.280
side.
47
00:02:01.280 --> 00:02:05.620
So a straight line did not look straight and I needed to make adjustments.
48
00:02:05.620 --> 00:02:09.560
So here are some ideas for ways that you can make adjustments if you are set up
49
00:02:09.560 --> 00:02:09.820
to the
50
00:02:09.820 --> 00:02:14.510
golf ball and straight still doesn't look straight even after you've accounted
51
00:02:14.510 --> 00:02:14.940
for your
52
00:02:14.940 --> 00:02:16.220
eye dominance.
53
00:02:16.220 --> 00:02:22.620
So the two most common ways are either moving your head forward backward or up
54
00:02:22.620 --> 00:02:23.380
down.
55
00:02:23.380 --> 00:02:28.590
So for up down, it's basically going to be whether or not you have your chin up
56
00:02:28.590 --> 00:02:29.060
or you
57
00:02:29.060 --> 00:02:34.020
have your chin down is going to adjust the way that your eyes see this straight
58
00:02:34.020 --> 00:02:34.700
line.
59
00:02:34.700 --> 00:02:39.210
For most same side dominance or right eye, right hand, you're going to do
60
00:02:39.210 --> 00:02:40.060
better with
61
00:02:40.060 --> 00:02:43.780
your eyes tilted more down or your chin tilted more down.
62
00:02:43.780 --> 00:02:48.000
Now I want you to make sure that you can see that it's not kind of my whole
63
00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:48.820
spine that's
64
00:02:48.820 --> 00:02:52.720
collapsing and tilting down, it's just my chin because I want my spine to still
65
00:02:52.720 --> 00:02:53.140
be able
66
00:02:53.140 --> 00:02:58.440
to rotate, but I want my eyes to be as close to vertical on this plane as I can
67
00:02:58.440 --> 00:02:58.800
.
68
00:02:58.800 --> 00:03:03.010
And the reason is that the more that it gets to vertical, the more that when I
69
00:03:03.010 --> 00:03:03.300
tilt my
70
00:03:03.300 --> 00:03:08.500
head or rotate my head, my eyes will still be on that line.
71
00:03:08.500 --> 00:03:12.350
If I'm up here and I rotate my head so that my right eye can see, you can see
72
00:03:12.350 --> 00:03:12.820
that my
73
00:03:12.820 --> 00:03:14.980
eye plane has totally shifted.
74
00:03:14.980 --> 00:03:21.330
So the chin down tends to help right eye dominant players if you do this setup
75
00:03:21.330 --> 00:03:22.180
drill and it's
76
00:03:22.180 --> 00:03:24.180
not working out correctly.
77
00:03:24.180 --> 00:03:29.140
The other option is moving either your head slightly back or slightly forward.
78
00:03:29.140 --> 00:03:33.760
Now that will tend to change your physical alignment, but that is a much higher
79
00:03:33.760 --> 00:03:34.380
priority
80
00:03:34.380 --> 00:03:38.210
than just having your shoulders perfectly square if it doesn't look straight
81
00:03:38.210 --> 00:03:38.820
because you'll
82
00:03:38.820 --> 00:03:40.260
never buy into it.
83
00:03:40.260 --> 00:03:45.810
So go through this little drill, play with it a couple times until you have a
84
00:03:45.810 --> 00:03:46.820
consistent
85
00:03:46.820 --> 00:03:50.410
read and you're able to see straight as straight, and then you can move on to
86
00:03:50.410 --> 00:03:51.100
the next step
87
00:03:51.100 --> 00:03:55.220
which is getting your physical alignment in all tuned out.
88
00:03:55.220 --> 00:03:56.980
So give that a try and we'll see you at the next clip.

I got this from an instructor who spent a lot of time with snooker players and
5
00:00:15.610 --> 00:00:15.760
they
6
00:00:15.760 --> 00:00:20.170
focus a lot on getting their eyes in the right position to be able to see where
7
00:00:20.170 --> 00:00:20.480
straight
8
00:00:20.480 --> 00:00:21.480
is.
9
00:00:21.480 --> 00:00:25.210
Because if you set up to a straight line and you don't see it as straight, your
10
00:00:25.210 --> 00:00:25.640
brain is
11
00:00:25.640 --> 00:00:28.200
not going to let you make a confident stroke.
12
00:00:28.200 --> 00:00:33.700
So, I've got a simple little setup here that you can use, again you're going to
13
00:00:33.700 --> 00:00:33.960

But this is one of the best ways I've figured out for fine-tuning your visual
16
00:00:42.380 --> 00:00:43.240
alignment.
17
00:00:43.240 --> 00:00:47.600
So, I've got two golf balls and a golf hole.
18
00:00:47.600 --> 00:00:52.400
Ideally, this is about 15 to 20 feet somewhere in there, so kind of a medium
19
00:00:52.400 --> 00:00:53.460
length putt.
20
00:00:53.460 --> 00:00:57.870
You want the middle ball to be lasered so that it's right in line with the
21
00:00:57.870 --> 00:00:58.140
center of the
22
00:00:58.140 --> 00:01:02.620
hole compared to the first ball, okay, and it should be about halfway in
23
00:01:02.620 --> 00:01:03.460
between.
24
00:01:03.460 --> 00:01:09.410
What you'll do is you will have your friend or your buddy or your golf bro
25
00:01:09.410 --> 00:01:10.500
stand behind
26
00:01:10.500 --> 00:01:13.930
the intermediate ball so that you can't see the golf ball or so that you can't
27
00:01:13.930 --> 00:01:14.300
see the
28
00:01:14.300 --> 00:01:16.100
golf hole, okay.
29
00:01:16.100 --> 00:01:21.970
So you're going to get set up to this first ball and aim it at that second ball
30
00:01:21.970 --> 00:01:22.540

00:01:22.540 --> 00:01:24.980

32
00:01:24.980 --> 00:01:28.080
Once you believe that if you hit it, it would hit the center dimple right in
33
00:01:28.080 --> 00:01:28.580
the middle
34
00:01:28.580 --> 00:01:32.390
of that golf ball, you're going to have this person move and step out of the
35
00:01:32.390 --> 00:01:33.100
way and then
36
00:01:33.100 --> 00:01:37.510
you're just going to track with your eyes to see if that first golf ball were
37
00:01:37.510 --> 00:01:37.900
to hit the
38
00:01:37.900 --> 00:01:42.930
second golf ball, if it continued along that line, would it hit the center of
39
00:01:42.930 --> 00:01:43.880
the hole?
40
00:01:43.880 --> 00:01:49.830
Most of you are going to say, maybe, this takes a little bit of practice, but
41
00:01:49.830 --> 00:01:50.380
if you
42
00:01:50.380 --> 00:01:54.110
look at it and it looks like it would hit either the edge of the hole or even
43
00:01:54.110 --> 00:01:54.580
miss the
44
00:01:54.580 --> 00:01:59.510
hole, when I first did it, for me, my golf ball was going to miss the hole on
45
00:01:59.510 --> 00:02:00.180
the left
46
00:02:00.180 --> 00:02:01.280
side.
47
00:02:01.280 --> 00:02:05.620
So a straight line did not look straight and I needed to make adjustments.
48
00:02:05.620 --> 00:02:09.560
So here are some ideas for ways that you can make adjustments if you are set up
49
00:02:09.560 --> 00:02:09.820
to the
50
00:02:09.820 --> 00:02:14.510
golf ball and straight still doesn't look straight even after you've accounted
51
00:02:14.510 --> 00:02:14.940
for your
52
00:02:14.940 --> 00:02:16.220
eye dominance.
53
00:02:16.220 --> 00:02:22.620
So the two most common ways are either moving your head forward backward or up
54
00:02:22.620 --> 00:02:23.380
down.
55
00:02:23.380 --> 00:02:28.590
So for up down, it's basically going to be whether or not you have your chin up
56
00:02:28.590 --> 00:02:29.060
or you
57
00:02:29.060 --> 00:02:34.020
have your chin down is going to adjust the way that your eyes see this straight
58
00:02:34.020 --> 00:02:34.700
line.
59
00:02:34.700 --> 00:02:39.210
For most same side dominance or right eye, right hand, you're going to do
60
00:02:39.210 --> 00:02:40.060
better with
61
00:02:40.060 --> 00:02:43.780
your eyes tilted more down or your chin tilted more down.
62
00:02:43.780 --> 00:02:48.000
Now I want you to make sure that you can see that it's not kind of my whole
63
00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:48.820
spine that's
64
00:02:48.820 --> 00:02:52.720
collapsing and tilting down, it's just my chin because I want my spine to still
65
00:02:52.720 --> 00:02:53.140
be able
66
00:02:53.140 --> 00:02:58.440
to rotate, but I want my eyes to be as close to vertical on this plane as I can
67
00:02:58.440 --> 00:02:58.800
.
68
00:02:58.800 --> 00:03:03.010
And the reason is that the more that it gets to vertical, the more that when I
69
00:03:03.010 --> 00:03:03.300
tilt my
70
00:03:03.300 --> 00:03:08.500
head or rotate my head, my eyes will still be on that line.
71
00:03:08.500 --> 00:03:12.350
If I'm up here and I rotate my head so that my right eye can see, you can see
72
00:03:12.350 --> 00:03:12.820
that my
73
00:03:12.820 --> 00:03:14.980
eye plane has totally shifted.
74
00:03:14.980 --> 00:03:21.330
So the chin down tends to help right eye dominant players if you do this setup
75
00:03:21.330 --> 00:03:22.180
drill and it's
76
00:03:22.180 --> 00:03:24.180
not working out correctly.
77
00:03:24.180 --> 00:03:29.140
The other option is moving either your head slightly back or slightly forward.
78
00:03:29.140 --> 00:03:33.760
Now that will tend to change your physical alignment, but that is a much higher
79
00:03:33.760 --> 00:03:34.380
priority
80
00:03:34.380 --> 00:03:38.210
than just having your shoulders perfectly square if it doesn't look straight
81
00:03:38.210 --> 00:03:38.820
because you'll
82
00:03:38.820 --> 00:03:40.260
never buy into it.
83
00:03:40.260 --> 00:03:45.810
So go through this little drill, play with it a couple times until you have a
84
00:03:45.810 --> 00:03:46.820
consistent
85
00:03:46.820 --> 00:03:50.410
read and you're able to see straight as straight, and then you can move on to
86
00:03:50.410 --> 00:03:51.100
the next step
87
00:03:51.100 --> 00:03:55.220
which is getting your physical alignment in all tuned out.
88
00:03:55.220 --> 00:03:56.980
So give that a try and we'll see you at the next clip.
