Motorcycle With Right Or Left Arm

The motorcycle movement is a key component to a body-centered downswing. If you want to power the swing with your whole body and create more of a rotational pattern, you need to have the club face rotated to the shaft. This can be done with either the right or the left hand, so it's important to experiment and figure out which is most useful for you. This drill helps you identify a simple way to identify which side you will be more dominant with.

1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.680
This is right versus left motorcycle. So you'll see on here that I'm really big

2
00:00:05.680 --> 00:00:06.560
in finding the

3
00:00:06.560 --> 00:00:11.630
details that click for each golfer. And we know that we need to have some shaft

4
00:00:11.630 --> 00:00:13.760
rotation early

5
00:00:13.760 --> 00:00:18.310
if we're going to have more of this body pivot and kind of tour impact-like

6
00:00:18.310 --> 00:00:19.360
conditions.

7
00:00:19.360 --> 00:00:23.920
So the thing that I don't really care is I don't care too much if it's more of

8
00:00:23.920 --> 00:00:24.240
the

9
00:00:24.240 --> 00:00:28.220
lead wrist doing the motorcycle move or the trail wrist doing more of the throw

10
00:00:28.220 --> 00:00:29.520
er's catch move

11
00:00:29.520 --> 00:00:35.130
or the right hand motorcycle but trying to get the club to rotate. But I've had

12
00:00:35.130 --> 00:00:35.600
a number of

13
00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:40.060
golfers who were trying to do it with one or the other and then I put them in

14
00:00:40.060 --> 00:00:41.200
the position and I

15
00:00:41.200 --> 00:00:45.170
simply ask which one do you feel kind of more tension or which one do you feel

16
00:00:45.170 --> 00:00:46.400
is more different

17
00:00:46.400 --> 00:00:51.280
than your normal pattern and it out and ended up being the opposite in one case

18
00:00:51.280 --> 00:00:51.840
. He was trying to

19
00:00:51.840 --> 00:00:54.790
do it with his right and he said no I feel it more in the left. I've never

20
00:00:54.790 --> 00:00:55.920
thought of swinging with

21
00:00:55.920 --> 00:01:00.560
my left hand and we worked on that and it was able to clean up pretty nicely.

22
00:01:00.560 --> 00:01:02.160
The other golfer

23
00:01:02.160 --> 00:01:06.030
felt like he was flexing like crazy but because of what was happening in the

24
00:01:06.030 --> 00:01:07.040
right wrist wasn't

25
00:01:07.040 --> 00:01:12.820
working out. So figuring out which one helps you can help if you're struggling

26
00:01:12.820 --> 00:01:14.080
with getting this

27
00:01:14.080 --> 00:01:18.540
face rotation piece. So you'll know that you're struggling with the face

28
00:01:18.540 --> 00:01:20.160
rotation piece if from

29
00:01:20.160 --> 00:01:25.380
the face on camera you have a little bit more of kind of that look to it as

30
00:01:25.380 --> 00:01:26.800
opposed to that's

31
00:01:26.800 --> 00:01:31.970
more of the look of the face rotation version of the release. So what I

32
00:01:31.970 --> 00:01:35.120
recommend is get into delivery

33
00:01:35.120 --> 00:01:40.210
position kind of like this and then to exaggerate it really kind of crank on

34
00:01:40.210 --> 00:01:41.680
your body and exaggerating

35
00:01:41.680 --> 00:01:47.610
get it even more open and then ask yourself which one if you close your eyes

36
00:01:47.610 --> 00:01:49.040
which one feels more

37
00:01:49.040 --> 00:01:54.240
different. Is it more my left wrist bowed like so where normally it would be

38
00:01:54.240 --> 00:01:55.280
kind of like this

39
00:01:55.280 --> 00:02:00.690
or is it the right wrist more extended and even a little bit more on top of the

40
00:02:00.690 --> 00:02:01.920
shaft where normally

41
00:02:01.920 --> 00:02:07.150
it feels like it would be kind of straight and underneath kind of like that. So

42
00:02:07.150 --> 00:02:08.000
you can figure

43
00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:13.370
out which hand tends to feel different or is potentially blocking you from

44
00:02:13.370 --> 00:02:14.720
getting that shaft

45
00:02:14.720 --> 00:02:19.430
rotation and then you can train it with some of the single arm release drills

46
00:02:19.430 --> 00:02:20.400
or with the single

47
00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:25.330
arm throw drills or with delivery and pump delivery and go and things where you

48
00:02:25.330 --> 00:02:26.640
're kind of pre-setting

49
00:02:26.640 --> 00:02:32.320
some of those rotations but that rotation is really key for getting into a body

50
00:02:32.320 --> 00:02:33.440
impact position

51
00:02:33.440 --> 00:02:38.650
kind of like so if you're struggling with having a little bit more of the body

52
00:02:38.650 --> 00:02:39.520
impact position

53
00:02:39.520 --> 00:02:43.370
looking more like that then figure out which one of the wrist is ultimately

54
00:02:43.370 --> 00:02:44.640
going to help you feel

55
00:02:44.640 --> 00:02:49.510
that rotation at the right time during the swing and that can potentially

56
00:02:49.510 --> 00:02:50.560
unlock where you're trying

57
00:02:50.560 --> 00:02:57.070
to get at impact. Now I'm going to feel mostly left that felt pretty good. Now

58
00:02:57.070 --> 00:02:58.400
I'm going to do

59
00:02:59.760 --> 00:03:10.080
mostly right so right kind of like so and that felt good but didn't feel quite

60
00:03:10.080 --> 00:03:11.200
as free through the

61
00:03:11.200 --> 00:03:19.440
ball. I'm a little bit better focusing on the left wrist like a lot of torporos

62
00:03:19.440 --> 00:03:21.120
so for me that's

63
00:03:21.120 --> 00:03:26.170
why it's more of the motorcycle and less of the throwers catch but you can

64
00:03:26.170 --> 00:03:28.000
figure out which of these

65
00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:31.600
two movements relates the shaft rotation to your swing.

with getting this

27
00:01:14.080 --> 00:01:18.540
face rotation piece. So you'll know that you're struggling with the face

28
00:01:18.540 --> 00:01:20.160
rotation piece if from

29
00:01:20.160 --> 00:01:25.380
the face on camera you have a little bit more of kind of that look to it as

30
00:01:25.380 --> 00:01:26.800

00:02:00.690 --> 00:02:01.920
shaft where normally

41
00:02:01.920 --> 00:02:07.150
it feels like it would be kind of straight and underneath kind of like that. So

42
00:02:07.150 --> 00:02:08.000
you can figure

43
00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:13.370
out which hand tends to feel different or is potentially blocking you from

44
00:02:13.370 --> 00:02:14.720
getting that shaft

45
00:02:14.720 --> 00:02:19.430
rotation and then you can train it with some of the single arm release drills

46
00:02:19.430 --> 00:02:20.400
or with the single

47
00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:25.330
arm throw drills or with delivery and pump delivery and go and things where you

48
00:02:25.330 --> 00:02:26.640

50
00:02:32.320 --> 00:02:33.440

kind of like so if you're struggling with having a little bit more of the body

00:02:38.650 --> 00:02:39.520
impact position

53
00:02:39.520 --> 00:02:43.370

I'm going to do

59

mostly right so right kind of like so and that felt good but didn't feel quite

60
00:03:10.080 --> 00:03:11.200

figure out which of these
