00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:04.920
this drill is training a draw path with an impact bag so those of you who've
2
00:00:04.920 --> 00:00:08.640
followed the site and followed my teaching know that I'm not really a big
3
00:00:08.640 --> 00:00:14.960
fan of using an impact bag you know training for impact right the way that
4
00:00:14.960 --> 00:00:19.800
they're designed but I do like to use impact bags in a couple different
5
00:00:19.800 --> 00:00:24.400
unconventional ways so what I'm going to show you is how I like to use the
6
00:00:24.400 --> 00:00:29.600
impact bag to help you with a getting an outward path or a right word path or
7
00:00:29.600 --> 00:00:34.080
right hand of golfers so what we're going to do with the impact bag is we're
8
00:00:34.080 --> 00:00:41.720
going to position it outside the golf ball kind of like that now what many
9
00:00:41.720 --> 00:00:46.560
golfers whether they they know it or not what many golfers intuitively believe
10
00:00:46.560 --> 00:00:51.120
is that in order to hit a draw when they're demonstrating it they tend to
11
00:00:51.120 --> 00:00:56.090
exaggerate like the face rotating through kind of like this and we know that
12
00:00:56.090 --> 00:00:56.440
the
13
00:00:56.440 --> 00:01:00.760
amount of rotation that's not what causes the draw it's the face angle
14
00:01:00.760 --> 00:01:06.760
compared to the path so this is a good way to focus on both of those here's
15
00:01:06.760 --> 00:01:11.440
what you're gonna try to do if I do this facing you in order to hit a draw I
16
00:01:11.440 --> 00:01:15.400
want you to visualize that the face is close to the path and so it's just going
17
00:01:15.400 --> 00:01:20.320
to travel through space like this so if there was a golf ball right here it's
18
00:01:20.320 --> 00:01:24.760
traveling more like this it's not that it's coming just slightly inside and
19
00:01:24.760 --> 00:01:31.120
rotating clothes like that so in order to get that feeling what I'm going to do
20
00:01:31.120 --> 00:01:35.240
is I'm going to set up with this impact bag roughly out in front of my left
21
00:01:35.240 --> 00:01:35.360
foot
22
00:01:35.360 --> 00:01:40.480
and now what I'm going to do is I'm going to get that club face so that it's
23
00:01:40.480 --> 00:01:45.880
pointing roughly at the target back here and I'm going to extend the toe of the
24
00:01:45.880 --> 00:01:50.880
club out into the impact bag like this now it's a little tricky to do this and
25
00:01:50.880 --> 00:01:57.000
actually make contact with a golf ball so usually what I'll do is get that look
26
00:01:57.000 --> 00:02:02.120
there in slow motion it's coming through kind of like that and then in slow
27
00:02:02.120 --> 00:02:07.800
motion I'm trying to hit that impact bag now this is going to exaggerate that
28
00:02:07.800 --> 00:02:14.160
in-out move but when you start to add speed it's going to usually result in a
29
00:02:14.160 --> 00:02:20.080
slight draw for golfers who are used to hitting more of a slice if you already
30
00:02:20.080 --> 00:02:24.680
struggle with hooking the ball this probably isn't the best drill for you so
31
00:02:24.680 --> 00:02:28.920
we'll bring that so it's just slightly outside the ball kind of like so and
32
00:02:28.920 --> 00:02:29.040
then
33
00:02:29.040 --> 00:02:33.840
we'll do a little 9 to 3 where I'm basically trying to make contact with
34
00:02:33.840 --> 00:02:39.760
that and you saw once I add some body rotation I actually miss the bag which
35
00:02:39.760 --> 00:02:48.920
it's easier to do than you would think so again we get that just outside kind
36
00:02:48.920 --> 00:02:48.920
of
37
00:02:48.920 --> 00:02:54.800
like that get a couple rehearsals and I want to make sure that I'm not getting
38
00:02:54.800 --> 00:02:58.600
the arms too far behind so I'm still kind of in this position you know good
39
00:02:58.600 --> 00:03:03.760
delivery position and then I'm trying to basically close the face early so it's
40
00:03:03.760 --> 00:03:09.640
closed there and then I'm just trying to stick that toe into the bag like so
41
00:03:09.640 --> 00:03:15.920
okay just like that now time I hit the alignment rod so you can you can use the
42
00:03:15.920 --> 00:03:21.560
impact bag in a number of creative ways to to give your brain a reference of
43
00:03:21.560 --> 00:03:27.640
hitting something but I'm not a huge fan of you know hitting embracing to to
44
00:03:27.640 --> 00:03:31.160
look at impact position because it neglects a bunch of the skills that I
45
00:03:31.160 --> 00:03:36.760
think are good when you're training impact position but I do like it for
46
00:03:36.760 --> 00:03:42.080
working on this rightward exaggerated path and especially feeling that club
47
00:03:42.080 --> 00:03:48.760
clove closed with a lack of rotation through that release that combination
48
00:03:48.760 --> 00:03:54.060
when you take it to a full swing is likely to produce a slight right to left
49
00:03:54.060 --> 00:03:56.480
ball flight

impact bag to help you with a getting an outward path or a right word path or
7
00:00:29.600 --> 00:00:34.080
right hand of golfers so what we're going to do with the impact bag is we're
8
00:00:34.080 --> 00:00:41.720
going to position it outside the golf ball kind of like that now what many
9
00:00:41.720 --> 00:00:46.560
golfers whether they they know it or not what many golfers intuitively believe
10
00:00:46.560 --> 00:00:51.120
is that in order to hit a draw when they're demonstrating it they tend to
11
00:00:51.120 --> 00:00:56.090
exaggerate like the face rotating through kind of like this and we know that
12
00:00:56.090 --> 00:00:56.440
the
13
00:00:56.440 --> 00:01:00.760
amount of rotation that's not what causes the draw it's the face angle
14
00:01:00.760 --> 00:01:06.760
compared to the path so this is a good way to focus on both of those here's
15
00:01:06.760 --> 00:01:11.440
what you're gonna try to do if I do this facing you in order to hit a draw I
16
00:01:11.440 --> 00:01:15.400
want you to visualize that the face is close to the path and so it's just going
17
00:01:15.400 --> 00:01:20.320
to travel through space like this so if there was a golf ball right here it's
18
00:01:20.320 --> 00:01:24.760
traveling more like this it's not that it's coming just slightly inside and
19
00:01:24.760 --> 00:01:31.120
rotating clothes like that so in order to get that feeling what I'm going to do
20
00:01:31.120 --> 00:01:35.240
is I'm going to set up with this impact bag roughly out in front of my left
21
00:01:35.240 --> 00:01:35.360
foot
22
00:01:35.360 --> 00:01:40.480
and now what I'm going to do is I'm going to get that club face so that it's
23
00:01:40.480 --> 00:01:45.880
pointing roughly at the target back here and I'm going to extend the toe of the
24
00:01:45.880 --> 00:01:50.880
club out into the impact bag like this now it's a little tricky to do this and
25
00:01:50.880 --> 00:01:57.000
actually make contact with a golf ball so usually what I'll do is get that look
26
00:01:57.000 --> 00:02:02.120
there in slow motion it's coming through kind of like that and then in slow
27
00:02:02.120 --> 00:02:07.800
motion I'm trying to hit that impact bag now this is going to exaggerate that
28
00:02:07.800 --> 00:02:14.160
in-out move but when you start to add speed it's going to usually result in a
29
00:02:14.160 --> 00:02:20.080
slight draw for golfers who are used to hitting more of a slice if you already
30
00:02:20.080 --> 00:02:24.680
struggle with hooking the ball this probably isn't the best drill for you so
31
00:02:24.680 --> 00:02:28.920
we'll bring that so it's just slightly outside the ball kind of like so and
32
00:02:28.920 --> 00:02:29.040
then
33
00:02:29.040 --> 00:02:33.840
we'll do a little 9 to 3 where I'm basically trying to make contact with
34
00:02:33.840 --> 00:02:39.760
that and you saw once I add some body rotation I actually miss the bag which
35
00:02:39.760 --> 00:02:48.920
it's easier to do than you would think so again we get that just outside kind
36
00:02:48.920 --> 00:02:48.920
of
37
00:02:48.920 --> 00:02:54.800
like that get a couple rehearsals and I want to make sure that I'm not getting
38
00:02:54.800 --> 00:02:58.600
the arms too far behind so I'm still kind of in this position you know good
39
00:02:58.600 --> 00:03:03.760
delivery position and then I'm trying to basically close the face early so it's
40
00:03:03.760 --> 00:03:09.640
closed there and then I'm just trying to stick that toe into the bag like so
41
00:03:09.640 --> 00:03:15.920
okay just like that now time I hit the alignment rod so you can you can use the
42
00:03:15.920 --> 00:03:21.560
impact bag in a number of creative ways to to give your brain a reference of
43
00:03:21.560 --> 00:03:27.640
hitting something but I'm not a huge fan of you know hitting embracing to to
44
00:03:27.640 --> 00:03:31.160
look at impact position because it neglects a bunch of the skills that I
45
00:03:31.160 --> 00:03:36.760
think are good when you're training impact position but I do like it for
46
00:03:36.760 --> 00:03:42.080
working on this rightward exaggerated path and especially feeling that club
47
00:03:42.080 --> 00:03:48.760
clove closed with a lack of rotation through that release that combination
48
00:03:48.760 --> 00:03:54.060
when you take it to a full swing is likely to produce a slight right to left
49
00:03:54.060 --> 00:03:56.480
ball flight
