Backswing Shoulder Plane
This is the compliment to the merry go round. Place the club across your shoulders and make a backswing pivot. Imagine there is a laser pointer pointing out of the end of the club, if you were standing in front of a mirror then you would want the laser pointer to hit yourself in the feet, not above the belt buckle. Once you have completed the pivot, then extend your arms away from you and put them into position.

This is working on your backswing shoulder plane and this is kind of the
2
00:00:04.520 --> 00:00:08.160
compliment to the merry-go-round drill. So if you were to take a club and place
3
00:00:08.160 --> 00:00:11.440
across your shoulders and imagine you've got a laser pointer sticking out the
4
00:00:11.440 --> 00:00:18.920
left side this time, you're going to make a backswing and try to have the club
5
00:00:18.920 --> 00:00:23.840
point roughly towards the golf ball. If the club is pointing more towards the
6
00:00:23.840 --> 00:00:29.400
horizon like so, then on a video what that would look like is that would look
7
00:00:29.400 --> 00:00:34.080
like you stood up. But if you remember from the concept video that's not
8
00:00:34.080 --> 00:00:39.460
actually standing up, that's lacking what we call side bend. So in the back
9
00:00:39.460 --> 00:00:39.800
swing
10
00:00:39.800 --> 00:00:44.480
if you were to put your left arm towards your on along your left side and
11
00:00:44.480 --> 00:00:48.480
then you were going to try to slide down and touch your left knee without
12
00:00:48.480 --> 00:00:48.800
letting
13
00:00:48.800 --> 00:00:54.000
it rotate, this is side bend. This movement is what happens during the back
14
00:00:54.000 --> 00:00:54.720
swing. So
15
00:00:54.720 --> 00:00:59.900
if you watch I do this side bend movement and then I rotate and now it looks
16
00:00:59.900 --> 00:00:59.960
like
17
00:00:59.960 --> 00:01:05.680
I made a good backswing. So when you stand up in the backswing it will mess
18
00:01:05.680 --> 00:01:08.400
up your sequence on the downswing or it'll mess up your sequence for
19
00:01:08.400 --> 00:01:13.440
transition. So you want to practice making a backswing where this laser beam
20
00:01:13.440 --> 00:01:18.200
would be pointing somewhere towards the golf ball. If you do that it kind of
21
00:01:18.200 --> 00:01:21.960
minimizes the adjustments you'd have to make to get that left shoulder going
22
00:01:21.960 --> 00:01:26.800
back down in the downswing. So if you remember from the transition we're
23
00:01:26.800 --> 00:01:30.680
going to increase that movement or continue that movement as you shift your
24
00:01:30.680 --> 00:01:36.000
weight which means that you don't want to do it to your maximum capability. You
25
00:01:36.000 --> 00:01:41.400
want to do it about 80% in the backswing. Okay, so if if my maximum capability
26
00:01:41.400 --> 00:01:41.600
is
27
00:01:41.600 --> 00:01:47.280
all the way down like this, I mean I'm only going to go to about here in my
28
00:01:47.280 --> 00:01:52.960
backswing so that I can continue it during that transition. Okay, so this will
29
00:01:52.960 --> 00:01:53.120
help
30
00:01:53.120 --> 00:01:58.440
you give the appearance of staying in your spine angle or not standing up in
31
00:01:58.440 --> 00:02:02.160
your backswing if you do it correctly.
