Left side Bend on Backswing Timing

Hi Tyler I saw the video on right side bend timing and it was very interesting including the counterintuitive reveal that the right side bend increases at or after impact Do you have any thoughts, data or empirical observations on the timing of left side bend? This may include the torso and/or the pelvis I know you have a video on early left side bend. When I try to do this I tend to tilt my head left(right handed golfer) and maybe lift in transition. I also find when I try to left side bend the pelvis early I don’t load the right glute well and find I feel I load the right glute better if I keep the left pelvis higher for the first half of the backswing. I realize there is some subjectivity to these statements as I don’t have access to 3D. Is there any benefit or data to support different timings of left side bend i.e. later of either the torso or pelvis? Thanks,

+Mark E The timing of the left side bend is blending throughout the backswing. You'll see the bigger difference in the pattern is usually in transition. In transition is the time I really look for the amount and timing of the left side bend. Here are two graphs: The first shows staying left side bend into the downswing, and the second graph shows a right side bend starting just before the top of the swing. The early right side bend golfer will have a look of early extension in transition. So I do think there is some benefit from looking at the timing and amount of side bend. It has a big impact on the look of staying in your posture.

Thanks Tyler Is there any info on the timing or extent of the pelvis left side bend? I have read some info recently that it may be better to delay the left pelvic sidebend till closer to transition. This “feels” better to me and seems to load the right glute better.

+Mark E Here are three pro graphs you can look at. You'll see Elkington reaches his max earlier than Grant Waite or the other pro winner. I agree with your idea. In theory, loading the side bend later, you may have an easier time activating the hip muscles you hope to use in transition.
