Delivery

Hi Tyler! My next area of focus is delivery, specifically through the lenses of low to high and having my shoulders more level around P6. Before I really invest, I’d very much appreciate your input about a couple things. Number one- I’ve chosen Nelly and Chef as models, because their dynamics seem the farthest from mine and any step in that direction would probably be a good one. Do you agree? Number two- I’m clearly in need of some high low high. How would you recommend I approach this as someone whose tendency is to stay down too long? I’m having some preliminary success with lead arm whip as a mechanism to level my shoulders. Thank you in advance! Zach

Here’s a little snapshot of my progress so far. Progress is incremental, but the handle is moving perceptibly up and in through the hit. I stumbled into a side quest of giving attention to my trail leg load in the backswing prior to the DTL vid, and man… I’ve been neglecting that bad boy. It really adds the element of natural response to downswing sequencing- that’s certainly the best I’ve ever seen my impact alignments look on video. Always with thanks, Zach PS- if someone had told me prior to joining GSA that I’d be able to hit a tiny fade off hardpan with an off-speed 3 wood, I’d have laughed. That proposition would’ve been hook city for me, so… progress!! Z Addition of tan shirt f/o, definitely seeing movement low to high, which has knock on effects in release and bracing. What do you say- you can only move your arms as well as you move your body, and vice versa. Still chugging along. Do you have any advice as to how I can approach the level shoulders element? I keep getting it chunky when I try, but mayyybe I just need more lead arm whip? TIA! Zach Addition edit- was able to pull what for me was a pretty nifty 60 degree 65 yard shot. In flight and sound, it was a lot closer to what I saw the big boys doing in NOLA at the tourney. Cheers! Z Aaaand one more thing to beat the buzzer- I think a light bulb went off for me in terms of the lead arm whip function and timing. Is this a correct assessment? Please and thank you! Z

So the elements of lead side crunch, low to high delivery, and lead arm whip have combined into a phenomenon I’m gonna call the samurai release, because it feels like I’m drawing a sword up around a corner, and mannnn… please tell me this looks right, because it does all the things I want it to- not the least of which is allow me present square shoulders at impact, which is something that’s eluded me my entire golfing life. I’ll hopefully get to play Wednesday and just absolutely can’t wait to see how it goes out there. Thank you Tyler! Zach

Hi Zach, I like the term Samurai release, wish I had thought of it ;) I didn't get to catch up on comments last week because I was taking a class, but I should get to review your posts tomorrow or Monday before the webinar. Have a good weekend. Happy Golfing

Oh sweet what class? I’ll send a last spam while I can- I’m addicted to both this motion and how it’s performing, especially with short clubs. It’s opened the door for me to really dive into the pull-push dynamics of the release(note an improving left foot stability during bracing), and showed me that it’s exponentially harder for me to keep follow through structure with a 60 degree wedge than with a longer club, so I’ve been focusing on getting the move with the short club, and I feel so much more torso involvement as a result. The full shot I included is about the first time I’ve really gone after a 60 and gotten a reasonable(30 degree-ish) launch. The other green shirt shows me I need more intentional and earlier Jackson 5, instead of allowing the momentum of a full backswing to recenter me, so I’m shoring that up too. It’s feeling like I’m grasping some basic STS concepts in a lot more depth, and it’s fun stuff!! Thank you!!! Zach

Hi Zach, Those swings are looking better. Follow through position looks like the biggest difference. A lot less tilt back, which is probably why you're getting the lower launch on your wedges. The class was marketing as a class on injuries for throwing athletes. There were some good pieces, especially in the anatomy discussion, but overall the class was a little lacking. They can't all be home-runs :D Happy Golfing, Tyler
