Member Question - Tumble Timing

In this video, help clarify how the extension of the arms creates rotation. Brian Manzella was the first I've heard to describe it as a "tumble" and one of our members asked for a clarification of when it starts. From a body point of view, the tumble is going to be a result of extending your arms from a rotated position. The rotation is largely going to come from lead arm pronation during transition. The Zorro Loops drill helps you use this move to help feel the blend from pronating to supinating.

00:00:01.220 --> 00:00:03.840
this video is answering a member

00:00:03.840 --> 00:00:06.330
question about the timing of when you're

00:00:06.330 --> 00:00:08.670
going to let the shaft kind of tumble or

00:00:08.670 --> 00:00:11.400
basically the timing of when you're

00:00:11.400 --> 00:00:16.049
going to apply this movement so I I try

00:00:16.049 --> 00:00:17.970
to emphasize in the Zoro swings and if

00:00:17.970 --> 00:00:20.820
you're if you're unfamiliar with that I

00:00:20.820 --> 00:00:22.680
recommend you go and check that one out

00:00:22.680 --> 00:00:25.170
but the timing of the tumble is

00:00:25.170 --> 00:00:27.060
basically going to be as you're

00:00:27.060 --> 00:00:28.710
extending your arms out during the

00:00:28.710 --> 00:00:30.900
release so during transition you're

00:00:30.900 --> 00:00:33.030
going to have this kind of reverse

00:00:33.030 --> 00:00:35.160
stumble that's built into Zoro swings

00:00:35.160 --> 00:00:37.559
this reverse tumble is eventually going

00:00:37.559 --> 00:00:40.950
to kind of create some stretch in some

00:00:40.950 --> 00:00:42.390
of my muscles that I'm not going to be

00:00:42.390 --> 00:00:43.980
able to hold back and I'm going to use

00:00:43.980 --> 00:00:46.590
that momentum or use that stretch to

00:00:46.590 --> 00:00:48.750
then create the tumble so this would be

00:00:48.750 --> 00:00:50.190
the tumble startsnow

00:00:50.190 --> 00:00:53.550
tumble is right there where that happens

00:00:53.550 --> 00:00:56.129
in the golf swing is I've dropped and

00:00:56.129 --> 00:00:57.719
kind of gotten this club on a shallow

00:00:57.719 --> 00:00:59.760
plane I'm exaggerating it for this video

00:00:59.760 --> 00:01:01.649
so I've dropped and got this club on the

00:01:01.649 --> 00:01:03.920
shallow plane and then if I was just

00:01:03.920 --> 00:01:06.390
continually let this club swing along

00:01:06.390 --> 00:01:08.970
that orbit it would probably swing with

00:01:08.970 --> 00:01:11.189
the club something out like that and

00:01:11.189 --> 00:01:12.540
that wouldn't work too well it would

00:01:12.540 --> 00:01:14.040
tend to leave the ball off to the right

00:01:14.040 --> 00:01:16.799
so eventually what's going to happen is

00:01:16.799 --> 00:01:19.350
I have to then get the club coming back

00:01:19.350 --> 00:01:22.170
out in front of me or use that little

00:01:22.170 --> 00:01:24.720
Zorro move to tumble the club to help

00:01:24.720 --> 00:01:28.380
square the face so we'll show it one

00:01:28.380 --> 00:01:29.040
more time

00:01:29.040 --> 00:01:31.470
actually we'll show it kind of in its

00:01:31.470 --> 00:01:33.540
real phase so once we're right in about

00:01:33.540 --> 00:01:36.930
here as we go to extend there's this

00:01:36.930 --> 00:01:39.930
continued rotation but the rotation is

00:01:39.930 --> 00:01:42.659
happening because I'm extending my arms

00:01:42.659 --> 00:01:45.630
from a rotated position it's not that I

00:01:45.630 --> 00:01:46.759
just have them here and I'm just

00:01:46.759 --> 00:01:49.680
magically rotating them like so I'm not

00:01:49.680 --> 00:01:52.680
just trying to kind of whip my forearms

00:01:52.680 --> 00:01:54.270
one on top of the other but because

00:01:54.270 --> 00:01:57.299
they're rotated when I go to extend them

00:01:57.299 --> 00:01:59.250
it's not just going to extend like so

00:01:59.250 --> 00:02:01.860
I'm going to allow them to rotate with

00:02:01.860 --> 00:02:04.979
the mass of the club so hope that helps

00:02:04.979 --> 00:02:07.110
clear it up the timing of the tumble is

00:02:07.110 --> 00:02:09.300
going to be somewhere in here if you're

00:02:09.300 --> 00:02:11.640
doing it too soon you'll tend to hit

00:02:11.640 --> 00:02:12.500
more poles

00:02:12.500 --> 00:02:15.200
if you're doing it too late you'll tend

00:02:15.200 --> 00:02:17.870
to hit shanks or blocks but if you're

00:02:17.870 --> 00:02:19.340
doing it just right you tend to hit that

00:02:19.340 --> 00:02:22.910
nice little penetrating draw which we

00:02:22.910 --> 00:02:25.670
feel is one of the more effective ball

00:02:25.670 --> 00:02:27.680
flights you can control your body

00:02:27.680 --> 00:02:29.030
rotation and hit a little fade with it

00:02:29.030 --> 00:02:31.250
too if you want but it's going to be

00:02:31.250 --> 00:02:32.990
more of a penetrating and powerful ball

00:02:32.990 --> 00:02:34.970
flight with clean contact and that's

00:02:34.970 --> 00:02:36.380
ultimately what's going to give us the

00:02:36.380 --> 00:02:37.910
power in the consistency that we're

00:02:37.910 --> 00:02:40.300
striving for
