Impact Bag Outside Lead Foot - Driver Version

The impact bag can be useful for stopping the club at a specific time. For many golfers, I like to have the club stopped just after impact. For the driver version of this drill, put the impact bag about six inches to a foot outside the lead foot. Then practice slower swings hitting the bag. There are two helpful keys to pay attention to. What height did the driver hit the bag? Where was the clubface pointing?

If the club hits the bag too high, then you're likely narrowing the arc significantly with a scoop or a chicken wing.

If the club hits the bag and the face is pointing way to the right or way to the left, then you have a club face control problem.

Use the impact bag to train your 9-to-3, 10-to-2 for better flat spot and club face control.

00:00:05.200 --> 00:00:09.200
This is impact bag outside left foot for the driver. So

1
00:00:08.200 --> 00:00:12.000
I like to use this impact bag

2
00:00:11.400 --> 00:00:14.100
outside the left foot not just for

3
00:00:14.100 --> 00:00:17.300
irons and working on low point but for driver and really working

4
00:00:17.300 --> 00:00:20.200
on face control. So what we're gonna do

5
00:00:20.200 --> 00:00:24.500
here is we're gonna place the impact bag about six

6
00:00:23.500 --> 00:00:26.300
inches or so in front of the left

7
00:00:26.300 --> 00:00:29.900
foot. So if I had a ball teed

8
00:00:29.900 --> 00:00:30.100
up,

9
00:00:34.800 --> 00:00:35.400
here we go.

10
00:00:36.300 --> 00:00:39.600
So if I had a ball teed up you can see that the the

11
00:00:39.600 --> 00:00:42.800
bag is close to about a foot in front of the the

12
00:00:42.800 --> 00:00:45.800
ball. And what I'm gonna try to do here is when

13
00:00:45.800 --> 00:00:48.700
I make contact with the bag, I want

14
00:00:48.700 --> 00:00:51.400
to make contact pretty close to the height of

15
00:00:51.400 --> 00:00:54.100
the ball and with a clubface that is still

16
00:00:54.100 --> 00:00:57.400
square. If you have more of a tendency to kind

17
00:00:57.400 --> 00:01:00.500
of throw the arms than what you'll see is that the club

18
00:01:00.500 --> 00:01:03.100
face was pointing almost at the road. I would

19
00:01:03.100 --> 00:01:06.400
hit it very much with the toe of the club as opposed

20
00:01:06.400 --> 00:01:09.200
to if I get down here and hit it

21
00:01:09.200 --> 00:01:12.700
more with my body then the club is still

22
00:01:12.700 --> 00:01:15.500
nice and square and low.

23
00:01:15.500 --> 00:01:18.300
So it's hitting at about the height of the ball

24
00:01:18.300 --> 00:01:21.400
with a club face. That's still Square. My goal is

25
00:01:21.400 --> 00:01:24.100
to have the club face be pretty close to square to

26
00:01:24.100 --> 00:01:27.200
the Target all the way from about a foot before the

27
00:01:27.200 --> 00:01:30.400
ball to a foot after after the ball. I heard

28
00:01:30.400 --> 00:01:33.900
Joe Miller one of the you know, iconic long

29
00:01:33.900 --> 00:01:36.200
drive guys say that was one of the things that he works on.

30
00:01:36.300 --> 00:01:39.200
Now it's important to note that Joe does have a lot more of this

31
00:01:39.200 --> 00:01:42.500
clubface closing is a lot more of that trail arm straightening. So it

32
00:01:42.500 --> 00:01:44.400
makes sense that that would be something that he would want to work on.

33
00:01:45.400 --> 00:01:49.200
I find for a lot of golfers who struggle with big directional

34
00:01:48.200 --> 00:01:52.200
misses with the driver. It comes down to primarily

35
00:01:51.200 --> 00:01:55.100
the space control issue and getting

36
00:01:54.100 --> 00:01:57.600
the club face to squit feel like

37
00:01:57.600 --> 00:02:01.600
it stays Square longer goes

38
00:02:00.600 --> 00:02:03.200
a long way in helping clean up

39
00:02:03.200 --> 00:02:06.300
some of those face control issues. So now that

40
00:02:06.300 --> 00:02:08.100
I've got a feel I'm gonna bring

41
00:02:09.100 --> 00:02:12.200
I like little baby steps. So it's still kind of there in the

42
00:02:12.200 --> 00:02:15.200
corner of my eye. I'm gonna feel like I'm

43
00:02:15.200 --> 00:02:18.300
still trying to hit it that way. So I'm gonna do a little bit

44
00:02:18.300 --> 00:02:19.600
of a nine to three.

45
00:02:20.600 --> 00:02:22.100
Get my shoulders a little more Square.

46
00:02:24.700 --> 00:02:27.400
And from the down the line camera, we should see that that

47
00:02:27.400 --> 00:02:30.400
took off fairly straight that felt like I had good

48
00:02:30.400 --> 00:02:33.700
extension, but I didn't let the club face kind of twist over

49
00:02:33.700 --> 00:02:36.400
rapidly. I I felt like I got more of

50
00:02:36.400 --> 00:02:40.100
that clubface closing here and then just kind of delivered that

51
00:02:40.100 --> 00:02:43.600
club face to the ball rather than trying to time a club

52
00:02:43.600 --> 00:02:45.300
face snapping and then I can go ahead.

53
00:02:46.200 --> 00:02:46.800
And I can add.

54
00:02:47.600 --> 00:02:50.000
A little bit longer swing or a little

55
00:02:50.200 --> 00:02:53.100
bit more speed and ultimately both until I get

56
00:02:53.100 --> 00:02:56.500
a feeling like the clubface is

57
00:02:56.500 --> 00:02:59.400
staying low to the ground and square even with my full

58
00:02:59.400 --> 00:03:00.300
driver cut.

59
00:03:01.100 --> 00:03:04.900
Okay, so little demo of how I like to work through it got the

60
00:03:04.900 --> 00:03:05.500
impact bag.

61
00:03:06.400 --> 00:03:09.000
Feel kind of there step up to the ball.

62
00:03:10.300 --> 00:03:12.000
Good ball position 9 to 3.

63
00:03:13.900 --> 00:03:16.200
So a little on the toe so it drew more

64
00:03:16.200 --> 00:03:18.600
than probably one but reasonable.

65
00:03:19.500 --> 00:03:21.700
Contact there felt like I was nice and behind it.

66
00:03:22.900 --> 00:03:23.800
Okay second.

67
00:03:24.800 --> 00:03:26.300
Now we're gonna do 10 to 2.

68
00:03:28.300 --> 00:03:29.200
Come up to the wall.

69
00:03:30.100 --> 00:03:31.000
10 to 2

70
00:03:33.500 --> 00:03:35.000
a little low but good flight.

71
00:03:35.900 --> 00:03:37.400
I like it a little on the low side.

72
00:03:38.300 --> 00:03:38.800
especially

73
00:03:39.900 --> 00:03:42.100
Even right now the driving range is Into

74
00:03:42.100 --> 00:03:45.900
The Wind not sure if you can see it or hear it but subconsciously always

75
00:03:45.900 --> 00:03:48.800
try to Flat it a little lower into the wind. Okay.

76
00:03:48.800 --> 00:03:50.200
So now we're gonna go up.

77
00:03:51.300 --> 00:03:54.400
Kind of get a fuller swing got that

78
00:03:54.400 --> 00:03:55.800
feel of the club face thing.

79
00:03:56.900 --> 00:03:57.900
Square longer

80
00:04:02.200 --> 00:04:05.800
pretty good hit right there had that similar feel that

81
00:04:05.800 --> 00:04:08.200
was the best one of the lot. So that's the way I like

82
00:04:08.200 --> 00:04:11.900
to work through it have it kind of there in the visual but it's

83
00:04:11.900 --> 00:04:14.300
not an actual physical barrier just to help you train

84
00:04:14.300 --> 00:04:17.800
this feeling of the club face thing nice and controlled

85
00:04:17.800 --> 00:04:20.200
down through impact instead of snapping over

86
00:04:20.200 --> 00:04:23.600
if you have too much or too early arm

87
00:04:23.600 --> 00:04:25.000
action in your release for the driver.
