GSA Overview

The basic golf swing is one motion, like walking, throwing a ball, or picking up a bag of groceries.  It can be most easily understood and learned by breaking it down into a minimal number of moves and positions.

These positions are places that every golf swing goes through, either well or poorly.  The three positions are set up; impact; and follow through.  There is also a delivery position which is an event in time when you go from building speed to transfering speed.

The movements of the golf swing are designed to get you into better and more effective versions of these positions.  The aim is not perfection, in reality there is no such thing, but efficiency, simplicity, and reliability are things that can be attained.

The basic form of learning is concepts and drills.

Concepts explain the positions or movements, how it is that you can do it, and why every golf swing includes them and how they are important.

Drills are designed to help you get to those positions and to teach you the movements to do so through focused and deliberate repetitions.  Key drills are the drills that we have used consistently to get the best results and focused drills break down key drills if you are struggling to make one aspect click.

Our program helps you develop a consistent and reliable swing, but having a reliable swing is just one piece of the puzzle, a big piece, but still just one piece.

So we also include ways for you to discover how to:
- adjust your stock reliable swing for different shots and conditions.  (There are different priorities with these movements for the driver, iron and wedge swings.)  Learning to recognize feedback will help you learn to monitor and self coach your swing and game.
- Understand performance, how to design a pre-shot routine, and how to optimize your practice time on for maximum improvement.

We stay current with the science, and consistently update our site so that you can spend your time doing instead of searching.

If at any time you feel lost, drop us an email, or video your swing, and we will help you get back on track with your plan.

It REALLY is that simple to play better golf.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,000
Welcome to Golf Smart Academy. In this video we're going to go over the overview of the

00:00:05,000 --> 00:00:12,000
program. So the program is based around your stock full swing. Now the golf swing is one motion,

00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:17,000
as of beginning and end, but the best way to learn it and understand it is to break it down into

00:00:17,000 --> 00:00:23,000
a minimal number of positions and sub-movments. The positions that we're going to go over are

00:00:23,000 --> 00:00:29,000
positions that every golf swing goes through, either well or poorly. The positions are set

00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:35,000
up or before I swing. Impact or the moment when I make contact with the golf ball until the golf ball

00:00:35,000 --> 00:00:41,000
leaves or the last one is follow through position, which is basically when I'm done with all my

00:00:41,000 --> 00:00:47,000
active elements in the golf swing. Now the movements are designed to get us into better versions of these

00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:52,000
positions. The three movements that we're going to go over are the backswing,

00:00:52,000 --> 00:01:02,000
transition and then the release. So the goal of these movements is not perfection. Really that's

00:01:02,000 --> 00:01:07,000
not possible because every situation that we have is different. Every shot that we have is different.

00:01:07,000 --> 00:01:14,000
So to find perfection is really unrealistic. But we can find simplicity, reliability, and hopefully

00:01:14,000 --> 00:01:21,000
consistency. Now having a stock swing that you can trust is great, but it's only one piece of the

00:01:22,000 --> 00:01:26,000
puzzle. We need to understand how to adjust this swing, whether we're hitting an eight iron,

00:01:26,000 --> 00:01:32,000
or if we're hitting a wedge or a driver, because there are differences not just in setup in what we can

00:01:32,000 --> 00:01:37,000
get away with in order to hit good shots with different clubs. In addition, I need to understand how to

00:01:37,000 --> 00:01:43,000
adjust my swing to control trajectory either higher or low or to adjust how I'm going to shape

00:01:43,000 --> 00:01:49,000
the shot. So whether I want it to curve right to left or left to right. The basic learning environment

00:01:49,000 --> 00:01:56,000
within this system is concepts and drills. If we use the example of a classroom, the concept is

00:01:56,000 --> 00:02:03,000
kind of like the lecture where I'm going to go over all the details of why we need to make this move,

00:02:03,000 --> 00:02:08,000
what exactly it is, and how we're going to do it and how it connects to other pieces within the swing.

00:02:09,000 --> 00:02:14,000
The drills are more like the lab. In the lab, you're going to get to experience these positions

00:02:14,000 --> 00:02:19,000
and movements. So I have drills that break down these movements and allow you to actually

00:02:19,000 --> 00:02:24,000
get in the positions or go through the movements properly. There are two different types of drills.

00:02:24,000 --> 00:02:30,000
We have key drills and focus drills. Key drills are somewhat general and go over the big pieces

00:02:30,000 --> 00:02:38,000
of each of these little breakouts. The focus drills take those key pieces and focus on one

00:02:38,000 --> 00:02:43,000
little aspect of it. But that one aspect may be what actually makes everything click for you to make

00:02:43,000 --> 00:02:48,000
that good movement. Now, having a great swing that you can take to the course and adjust for

00:02:48,000 --> 00:02:55,000
different shots is awesome and a lot of what makes all fun. But we also need to know how to score.

00:02:55,000 --> 00:03:01,000
So we have sections that go over a short game from putting to chipping and pitching or what I call

00:03:01,000 --> 00:03:07,000
the finesse wedge swing or distance wedges, which is basically 30 to 100 yards. We also cut

00:03:07,000 --> 00:03:12,000
cover those troublesome bunker shots that many of you struggle with. We stay current with the

00:03:12,000 --> 00:03:17,000
science and trends in golf instruction and we constantly update our site. So you can spend

00:03:17,000 --> 00:03:22,000
less time searching for the answers and more time training your swing. But if you ever feel lost,

00:03:22,000 --> 00:03:27,000
simply ask us a question or submit your video swing and we'll help you get back on track.
