Think of it this way.

If I was playing tennis, we'll say that this is a tennis racket instead of a golf club.

If I have the racket handle or the racket pretty much vertical like this,

I'm not going to be able to rotate very hard.

It's going to have to be more of an arm-based shot.

I'm basically going to have to try to get that racket down low.

And when I rotate, that's going to tend to keep the racket up high.

So now that encourages a whole lot of body rotation to help

How does that work in the golf movement?

So when we're working on delivery position,

you'll see that there's a couple key components to it.

One of the pieces is trying to get this golf club to be a little bit lower than your hands.

Many people in their delivery position will try to keep the club head high, kind of like so.

Now from the down the line, you can see if I keep this high,

if I was also to rotate, that's going to tend to create a steeper path from the face on view.

If I keep this high, you're going to tend to see a little bit more closed off body rotation.

If we do the opposite, if I get into this position and I unhing,

that's going to get that club head low, and that's going to encourage body rotation

The timing in the unhing is pretty important that it tends to happen kind of around delivery position.

So I'm working through in my transition sequence, I get into that good kind of delivery position,

and I'm really starting to kind of unhing through here.

Now a lot of you are going to think, wait, isn't unhinging bad, isn't unhinging more of a cast movement.

but what you'll see is that, especially on 3D, but you can see on 2D,

most golfers will unhing during this phase here, but because of the white movement and because of the body rotation,

The opposite is golfers who tend to keep the hinge,

well, typically, release that trail, or release that trail elbow, and kind of straighten the arm soon.

So this has more wrist hinge than that, but this second one has the appearance of having more lag to it.

So if you struggle with kind of diggy contact, you're probably lacking this unhinged.

But the important thing for this video is understanding the connection between trying to rotate and trying to get that unhinged.

So if you're struggling with getting body rotation at impact, it could be that you're lacking some of this unhinging movement in the proper time and space.

The important thing is when you unhing, it doesn't also rotate back out in front.

So when I unhing, you can see that it still says kind of the club stays parallel to my body, or the club stays well behind as it unhinges,

that will encourage me to then finish the rotation through the shot.

So to work on that, I can get into my delivery position, and I can pump that unhing a few times,

and then the unhing kind of takes the club shallow or low to the ground or underneath the plane,

and then at the same time, if I rotate my body, that brings it back up and back on top of the plane.

So if you're on plane, if you're struggling with getting the body rotation, don't neglect the unhing and the timing of when it should happen is kind of just after,

or part of your delivery position training, but that is a key component to having body rotation at the point of impact.

One quick note, if you unhing in the ball starts going right, it shows that you're rehinging as part of this cast pattern to help square the club face.

When you unhing, that'll actually make it easier for you to then supinate and rotate the club or continue the motorcycle in order to square the face.
