Backswing

Tyler, I’m swing an 8 only thing I’m attempting to do is TURN away with my Sternum earlier kind of like it’s power my backswing pivot. I also watched the video of Making your backswing quicker so you can REBOUND. i’m at least trying but I feel that my backswing doesn’t have enough rotation. Is this where you recommend I start? Is there hope? I used to be a really good player but i was involved in an auto accident 4 years ago that damaged my left knee. Is there a way for me to swing make a golf swing that is more right leg dominant? Where I don’t have to get back onto my left left so much? I really hope you can help me because I’m thinking about hanging it up but I’m in the golf business I work for Titleist Golf it would be a shame not to play and work for such a great company. I wish you were taking on new students. Anyway you can make an exception ? Thx.

Hi Tim, I usually start at impact and work my way backward. I start with what it looks like at impact, but also I start with what is the problem we're trying to solve. Improved contact, direction, or distance. I usually work in that order. I find it risky to try and add speed if direction or contact is off. I can sympathize with coming back from injuries, it's hard when your body doesn't want to cooperate. What does the left knee restrict you from doing? It looks like you get onto your left side fairly well with the leg, but it looks like your upper body hangs back and your arms get a little steep. So I would probably work around that combination, upper body more forward (steep), arms a little flatter and shoulders more closed (shallow). That would re-balance your swing in a way that would allow better shaft lean/lag and compression. A starting point can often be the combo of delivery and go with delivery pump. I'll send you an email, Tyler

Tyler, Thank you for your reply. I understand upper body more forward arms a flatter but don’t understand the shoulders closed. Does that mean at impact? I worked on the side saddle drill today and finally felt some body lag in my hips and even felt like my body turning thru impact with my arms not leading for once. Is this a good start? My knee just doesn’t have much stability but i’m willing to do whatever’s needed

Hi Tim, I tried sending you an email but it bounced, perhaps I have the wrong email address. Can you send me an email tyler@golfsmartacademy.com Shoulders closed is the term I use for scapular position. Here are two videos discussing it. https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/decoding-your-scapular-feel https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/connecting-scapular-alignment-impact-alignment Side saddle drill is a good one, it forces some of the arm and shoulder structure we're looking for. Sounds like a good idea to start. We'll keep an eye on the knee and see what happens with it as you work on your impact position. But right now it doesn't look like it's holding you back. But looks can be deceiving if it doesn't feel stable when swinging. Keep me posted, and if you get a chance, send me an email. Happy golfing, Tyler
