Junior Low Point Issues

Hi Tyler,
Here is my 15 yr old hitting a 6 iron and driver.
She’s a very good driver of the ball. (Look how open at impact. And how well extended at P8/9. Pretty wild. Wish I could get there.) But, she has contact issues with irons and fairway woods. Thin/fat pattern where low point is too far back, is my guess. Both iron swings shown here resulted in thin shots. If I had to guess, I’d say hips/shoulders too far behind the Impact Line. Good driver position, bad iron position. How to correct this with a junior without wrecking the driver swing?
1. What do you recommend specifically to help iron contact?
2. Generally, anything big picture you’d address now while she’s still young to set good habits?
3. Very little hip rotation in backswing. Agreed? Any thoughts there?
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Hi Joe,
Young flexibility is definitely a marvel in many cases. I wish I had it too.
Thin/Fat almost always means starting with impact. To me, it looks like the arms are too far behind her body. It's pretty common with juniors, especially girls. They tend to let the club swing a little too freely and don't get core/wipe working. I'd usually start with delivery and go, or release drills. Agree on the backswing, I think she's using the lack of hip rotation to help build the tension with the right arm behind the body. It's harder to do if you make a good hip turn. If it were me, I'd work on the release first, then add the backswing as soon as the release idea was more clear to her brain.
Happy Golfing,
Tyler
