Trail elbow and shallowing

Hi Tyler, I'm a new member and have found your videos very helpful. Your drills and explanations are really well thought out and after a few weeks I think it's helping me quite a lot. I was hoping you could take a look at my swing and provide any thoughts. I've been working a lot on transition and shallowing the club, it's a foreign feeling but I think I'm slowly getting it. However I notice that it seems like I'm having trouble get my right shoulder externally rotated enough, and that my right elbow is lagging behind. If you have thoughts on this, and any other observations on my swing I'd appreciate the feedback. Don Bresee

I agree with your assessment. From the face on, I'd work on delivery position. It's very similar to what you're working on with the arm external rotation to help shallow the shaft. In the attached picture, see if you can get the right arm more in front of your body rather than behind. Tyler, Would Don benefit from getting more shoulder turn and releasing the hips? More 90/45 at the top of the backswing. To me it looks like he doesn’t get enough turn; and is trying to generate power by moving the upper and lower body towards the target. Leaving the arms behind. More turn may give more time get the arms in front. Just my thoughts.

Thanks very much, I'll work on those recommendations.

Chris, It's possible that he could benefit from a longer backswing. I would get it from more extension rather than turn. Also, I think that would be something to work on when you have enough time to get used to a big change in timing. If you haven't worked on it before, then I'd wait until the fall to go after that change.
